Here it is...
Tim Hardaway
What I needed was a
gamechanger on offense that can
shoot the long ball,
drive, and
distribute. Hardaway can do that and much more.
You might remember him for his homophobic comments, but Tim Hardaway was
one of the best point guards during his era. Hardaway was small at 6 feet, but that didn't matter to him or to the opposing team getting torched. He was known for his
devastating crossover dribble, dubbed the
UTEP 2 step.
As part of the Warriors' attack, Hardaway was responsible for leading Run TMC's fast break, displaying his
excellent passing and
one-on-one skills. In his best seasons, Hardaway averaged
nearly 24 points and 10 assists per game. Hardaway has competed in five NBA All-Star Games. Together with center Alonzo Mourning he led the Heat to some of the franchise's best seasons. He was an
MVP candidate following the 1996-97 season, making it to the
All-NBA First Team after leading the Heat to the best record in franchise history while averaging
20.3 points, 8.6 assists, and being fourth in the league with 203 three-point baskets.
Hardaway recorded
5,000 points and 2,500 assists faster than any player in NBA history except Oscar Robertson. Hardaway accomplished it in 262 games; Robertson took only 247
Hardaway holds the record for
most assists in Miami Heat franchise history: 1,947
Hardaway shares the record for
second most steals in an NBA Playoffs game, with 8 in Game 2 of the 1991 Western Conference Semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers and in Game 4 of the 1992 Western Conference First Round against the Seattle SuperSonics
In 1991-92, Hardaway became the
7th player in NBA history to average 20 points (23.4 ppg) and 10 assists (10.0 apg) in a season, a feat he accomplished again in 1992-93 (21.5 ppg, 10.6 apg)
