Draft prospect that the kings cant pass on

upinsmoke

All-Star
Brandon Jennings a 6'1 170 guard that has a pass first style but can become an explosive offensive threat because of his lightning quick first step and ability to play above the rim. His shooting can improve and sometimes looks for the highlights to much but has committed to Arizona so you know they will mold him right.

The more prospects to play the point we have the better make these guys earn every minute, even Beno.

He's passing up college to play in Europe. So I don't know the draft rules and such, maybe he can play after a year in Europe or when his contract is done.

The limitation on entering the draft is now an age thing, not a college thing, so he won't be available until after he turns 19 anyway, same as if he went to school.

As an aside, the reason he is passing on Arizona is because he's too dim to pass the entrance exams and had no choice. Its entirely possible he may still be a genius with a ball in is hands, but things like that always raise red flags about a guy's brains, dedication and focus. If he does well, I am sure there will be some interest from teams around the league, but there will also be some questions.

Actualy, what I read was that when he first took the entrance exam, he didn't pass. So he took it a second time and passed it easily. Aparently there was so much difference between the two, the school asked him to take it a third time and he refused.

I'm told its common for a school to request a third exam when there's so much difference between the first and the second. We'll probably never know the truth, but it is suspicious on his part.

I'm sure he has no interest in a formal education and really just wants to improve skills wise, learn about being a pro, and make some money. Whether that's going to happen who knows. This could be a very good learning experience for him, but it can also be very overwhelming and blow up in his face. It's risky what he's doing, but it'll be interesting to see what happens and just because he's doing something new doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing.

Ricky Rubio, or Jrue Holiday..

Remember those names.. They will be NBA stars.

Rubio is a very rare kind of player, I can't wait to see how he does in the NBA. I like Holiday a lot too, I think he'll be able to handle PG in the NBA and be a leader on the court.

I had no idea he passed on Arizona that was the biggest thing that caught my attention because Arizona produces such quality point guards. However on the other hand if they expressed interest in him they must have seen potential. It would still be worth the gamble to attempt to sign the kid next year.

Arizona produces shoot first PG. I can't remember one TRUE, pass first PG that has come out of Arizona. Bibby, Terry, Arenas and now Bayless....not a pass first PG amongst them.

thats too true......

I never made the arguement that Arizona produces "true" point guards I only said Jennings has a pass first style of play which he does. Its this kind of hair splitting that gets threads off topic so now if we may continue...

Garnett was in a similar situation when he entered the draft and he turned out alright. The biggest concern surrounding Jennings is his jump shot not his basketball IQ.

Jrue Holiday doesn't get enough hype. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he turned out to be a better player then Rubio or Jennings, although to be fair i haven't seen a lot of Rubio.

Rubio. If we suck enough to be in a position to get him, I will be extremely annoyed if we pass on him. He is special, plain and simple. He is unbelievable. And he's 17 (I think).

Either Rubio ( my fav ) or Jrue would be sick! who knows if we trade Artest......we could be right there.....the west being to stacked will help our lotto chances. I figure how may lottos ya got to be in before you win it or get a top 5 pick???

What are the rules on trading for picks? Anyways im so against Rubio he is not athletic and will be exposed on the defensive end in the nba. Also i dont see him becoming a good shooter. No more Euro players please.

I want to see him play for the kings. He got a unique mix of skill and talent; good fastbreak skills, no jumpshot. Bad defense, good anticipation. High iq, low athleticism. He could be a bust waiting to happen but it'll be fun watching.

I think Brandon Jennings could be a star PG in the league, but I'm still not all that enthusiastic about the possibility of him coming to Sacramento. From everything I've read about him, he doesn't seem like a natural floor leader but rather a flashy passer who is prone to overestimating his abilities resulting in careless turnovers. His defense is nothing special either. Certainly we need a PG for the future, but none of the PG prospects this year or next year come without serious doubts. Rose went first overall this year, but even with him there's questions about his shooting ability, defense, and passing ability. That's a lot of questions for an elite PG prospect. All the guys drafted later have even more questions. I actually think Westbrook might turn into the best of the bunch because he's got a lot of tangible basketball skills right now, and a clear idea about what he needs to work on. Rubio looks like a unique talent, but is he athletic enough to play PG in the NBA? Can he get his shot off or will he be mostly a distributer? Is he a solid defensive player or more prone to gamble for steals and let his man get by him?

None of these guys look like a slam dunk. I'm going to see how Brandon Jennings handles a year of professional basketball before getting excited about him as a prospect.

Rubio would be amazing. He has the Steve Nash type vibe. He is the best pure point guard I have seen come along in a while. Maybe since Kidd.

Someone I would like the Kings to look at is DeMar DeRozan from USC. If he could play SF, he could be a special type player IMO.

Question about Rubio? Is he a 09 Draftee or 10?
