Dorsey reminds me of a Ben Wallace type of player

I've been thinking this, but hadn't posted it yet. The reality is we will have Dorsey or Brockman on this team next year...not both. Dorsey is a more athletic version of Brockman with an extra inch of height. Dorsey's contract doesn't expire, Brockman's does. I cant see us keeping both, if we do I'll be surprised, and I think Dorsey wins it if we keep one. He's Brockman on steroids.

It seems like we're about to collect our copycat minis of Superstars. Every player we get will be like the poor-man's version of those big stars. It is scary. We might end up winning the poor mans version of the NBA championship with the kind of team we're building. :p
The lottery? The NCAA championship? NBDL Championship? Greek League?

Wasn't Ben Wallace a 4x DPOY ??

Comparing him to Wallace is a bit extreme imo.

Wallace had superior athleticism, good post defense, excellent help defense, would get you 1.5steals and 2.5+ blocks a game and 11+ rebounds

Agreed. Dorsey will not be Wallace. These things happen on message boards (remember the JT-Karl Malone comparisons last year).

However, he can still be a good defensive big for us, with very good rebounding and some big dunks inside. Maybe, a rich man's Chuck Hayes (meant as a compliment).

Again, consider the facts. Chuck Hayes and Dorsey are the same age right now. Chuck Hayes is a much better player now, and has been a better player for a while. So really, we should hope that Dorsey approaches and matches Hayes play, but exceeding it all of a sudden is pretty unlikely.

Yes he is a "Ben Wallace type of player". I think everybody knew that coming over. But he is to Ben Wallace as Taylor Swift is to country music. Little twang there, but the palest imitation (which actually in Taylor Swift's case is a good thing).
Dorsey was a human highlight reel when he was at Memphis.

Watch his highlight video...impressive:

I stand by my statement. We are talking about potential here and Dorsey is bigger, stronger, more athletic, more of a shot blocker and can finish better inside (dunking) than Hayes. Hayes is a smarter player, better 1 on 1 defender and a better passer (actually underrated here). Now for a variety of reasons Dorsey may never reach that level, but her certainly has the potential to be a rich man's Hayes.

Especially considering he was drafted by a team with a lot of inside players. Started in the d-league where he had a poor attitude:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Joey-Dorsey-456/ (2nd story)

Now he's getting his first NBA minutes this year and has already had a couple of very good games. 26 or not, he appears to have matured and still has room to grow.

Definitely no Ben Wallace, but I just don't see the controversy in saying he could be a rich man's Hayes. Hardly an impossible wall to climb.

You have your opinion, I have mine. I highly doubt we keep both. Which do we keep?? Well it will really depend on what the Kings want "that" type of player for.

"That" type of player being a slightly undersized guy, that motor never quits, will annoy the hell out of whoever he defends, grabs rebounds, blocks shots, plays his heart out, and gives some good hard fouls to let you know he's there.

Every team should have one of these guys, an enforcer, a goon. However, two is overkill. This type of player doesn't get many minutes to begin with on a good team, and having 2 would leave 1 mainly on the bench.

I agree that there isn't room for both on a good team but I'm not sure we qualify yet and we still have to solidify our front court. I expect that we will draft a big man, so that will cut into the space. But unless we also make a big time free agent signing it won't hurt us to keep both even if one is just a trade chip later on, especially if they work hard in practice and bring the hard nosed attitude all day.

that's a tough one. i like both. Brockman is a better rebounder and probably a little better on offense. Dorsey can defend better and blocks shots.
I have to go with Dorsey for the reasons you mentioned. He can defend and block shots. I like Brockman. He's tough and can rebound ,but we already have a bunch of bigs that can get all their shots blocked at the basket not named Carl.

So...do we need to start a formal poll of who to keep, Dorsey or Brockman? I'm curious as to what the result would be.
All I know is I wouldn't want to be the one making that call. Brockman is very likable and has become a fan favorite. There will be a revolt by some if he's not re-signed. But, when you have Dorsey who I think is under contract for another year I think, it's a tough call.

Yeah, no kidding...I say we do our best to keep both. But they'd also be good trade pieces as well. I see Dorsey becoming relatively just as popular amongst fans as Brock, so it would be tough to decide. I know Dorsey has more potential than Brockman, having watched him in college at Memphis, he's a beast for sure...but then again, Brock is a rebounding Hoover, albeit an undersized one.

edit: can we have a mod add a poll to this thread of 'Who to Keep' please? Thanks!

Should be noted that Brockman is good for team chemsitry as well -- gppd lockerroom guy and very much part of the young pack of tough players that started to turn this.

That's true, but Dorsey will most likely be a good chemistry guy and he's only been in the league one year longer. So, he's still young, and he just has more potential on his athleticism, genetic gifts alone.

Keep Brockman, I'm sure most of you haven't forgotten how much of an impact he made during the Bulls game last year. Guy has potential, just give him the time to develop like Reke and Casspi.

4 reasons Landry and Brock will be back: May, Udoka, McGuire and Temple.

That's a lot of fat to trim from the roster for our starting stud big and Reke's backcourt soul mate that unless somebody is deperate to overpay for either player there's no reason to let either walk.

Dorsey is under contract for two more years, but both years are team option years. So If we decide we don't want his services we refuse to pick up his option.
