Yep. Baffling indeed. He actually went from starter to end of bench in basically 1 game. I honestly wonder why he's even active.

then westphal's methods of testing donte's resolve and work ethic has failed if thats the case...

Donte has potential but I feel he doesnt have that fire to live up to it... at this rate Donte is on his way to playing to europe if this continues....

Is it time to send him back to the D-League? that's the question I am wondering to myself now...

if Donte had the same fire that casspi has on his work ethic he would absolutely be a great player.

If i were to guess the future thats what i think will happen, followed closely by a trade.

It's hard to have fire when you don't get many minutes, he probably doesn't want to do too much in his limited minutes, given if he missed 3 shots in a row, he may go down for 0-3 for the night without many more chances.

Donte is a third-year player. He can't be sent to the D-League; only first- and second-year players can.

But he made his defensive reputation on one blocked shot on Kobe. I've watched him play with my defensive glasses on and he's always been inconsistant. Yes! He'll play outstanding defense for a quarter, and then disappear. He'll play outstanding offense for a quarter, and then disappear. The truth is that Greene has more intensity and fire waving a towel on the sideline than he does in a game at times. Its not about whether he has the ability or not, its about his bringing it to the table every night.

I don't really remember it that way.

Donte played shut-down defense on a number of good players last year. I vividly remember him doing a great job on Carmelo when we played the Nuggets.

It's really strange that coach would have him a starter, then demote him to not playing all in the span of 2 games. There must be something else going on we in the public aren't hearing.

I referred to the Laker game, because that seems to be the one that everyone remembers and brings up. As I said, I know he's capable. The problem is that he'll play very tough defense on Kobe, or whomever it is he decides to play hard against, and then he'll get burned by someone else of lesser abitlities. He's still young, and in a sense, he's just starting his career, at least I hope so. I'm just not sure what his goals are as a player. JT states his goals all the time. So does Casspi. That doesn't mean that they'll acheive those goals, but at least they have a brass ring they're reaching for.

While I admire Greene's enthusiasm on the sidelines, I'm not sure thats something he should aspire to.

To me it seems as if Coach W is showing him that his time as a "talent with big future" is coming to an end. There are many talented baskeball players around but in order to play with the best you also need to have a special mentality and dedicate all to this sport.
There is no doubt that he is more talented than a player like Omri, but Omri is giving everything each and every practice and game.
This is maybe the last chance for him to wake up and make the cut.

I tend to think this may have been it as well. I also get the feeling that coach doesn't like having to be put in this position to do that.

Yeah, I suppose. It would definitely be bad PR. I think people are starting to calm down from the hysteria, Udonis Haslem comes to mind. If this were true I'm more upset at AW's DUI conviction.

The only reason I mentioned it is because I literally can't think of something else that makes sense. Occam's razor. That said, baseless speculation is close to useless and often harmful so I'm mildly ashamed to have brought it up.

On another related note, Do any of you guy follow Donte on Twitter? Heres a plug first : For all the twitter haters (I dont 'tweet') its a fantastic source of information. Most, if not all, reporters tweet something before they bother writing up a story for it. Comes in handy around trade deadline time .. but anyways ..

He has been tweeting alot about his playing time lately. He tweeted a picture of a fan made "Free Donte Greene" T shirt. The words havent come out of his mouth directly, but he is retweeting ( making public things sent diractly to him ) other people saying things like "Kings could have used you" or "You could have stopped Rudy Gay" Stuff like that. Obviously he is unhappy about it and it SEEMS as though he hasnt been given a real reason why he hasnt been playing because if it was some sort of in house suspension Im sure he wouldnt be making these comments. Weird situation but im sure the dumb twitter stuff isnt helping.

i agree with this.

We fans see a lot of potential in greene. But upto now all greene has shown are occasional highlights of those potential, most notable of which is that block on kobe bryant. He never really showed the consistent effort to play intensely in games.

And i agree that greene has consistently shown more intensity and fire waving a towel at the bench than he does in a game. I also think he's got more love on his mini-show "horacio" than his job as a basketball player. This is what it seems he likes doing. Let coach westphal give it to him.

Greene's lackluster approach to his nba career is just too juvenile.

Yeah, good point. That would at least eliminate the league being involved. You'd think some reporter would did into it and find something out. Its a very strange situation.

I tend to agree. I think it's highly likely something happened off the court, and the team is keeping it in house, and it's the best route to take. I said in another thread it's not our business, or right to know what happened. Fans don't need to know everything which happens behind the scenes. Let the team deal with it.

And that is exactly why all these fans bashing Westphal for not playing Donte is absolutely rediculous. At this point no one knows what happened, so why do fans tend to bash Westphal and give Donte a pass? Happens in every game thread, and if Donte doesn't play tonight, there'll be fans calling for Westphals head in the game thread tonight.
