RookieOfTheDay
Starter
How he went from competing for a starting spot to last man on the bench overnight just baffles me.

Yep. Baffling indeed. He actually went from starter to end of bench in basically 1 game. I honestly wonder why he's even active.
I mean what could even do in one game to get on the coach's bad side that bad? LOL
If Westphals plan is for donte to commit suicide its working... when head and jackson are head of you on a roster.. you've got problems..
then westphal's methods of testing donte's resolve and work ethic has failed if thats the case...
Donte has potential but I feel he doesnt have that fire to live up to it... at this rate Donte is on his way to playing to europe if this continues....
Is it time to send him back to the D-League? that's the question I am wondering to myself now...
if Donte had the same fire that casspi has on his work ethic he would absolutely be a great player.

But he made his defensive reputation on one blocked shot on Kobe. I've watched him play with my defensive glasses on and he's always been inconsistant. Yes! He'll play outstanding defense for a quarter, and then disappear. He'll play outstanding offense for a quarter, and then disappear. The truth is that Greene has more intensity and fire waving a towel on the sideline than he does in a game at times. Its not about whether he has the ability or not, its about his bringing it to the table every night.
I referred to the Laker game, because that seems to be the one that everyone remembers and brings up. As I said, I know he's capable. The problem is that he'll play very tough defense on Kobe, or whomever it is he decides to play hard against, and then he'll get burned by someone else of lesser abitlities. He's still young, and in a sense, he's just starting his career, at least I hope so. I'm just not sure what his goals are as a player. JT states his goals all the time. So does Casspi. That doesn't mean that they'll acheive those goals, but at least they have a brass ring they're reaching for.
While I admire Greene's enthusiasm on the sidelines, I'm not sure thats something he should aspire to.

The only realistic thing I can think of is he was caught smoking weed. Outside that; nothing else seems remotely feasible.
if Donte really got sent to the dog house for something as meaningless as this I'd be upset. The only realistic thing I can think of is he was caught smoking weed. Outside that; nothing else seems remotely feasible.

Yeah, I suppose. It would definitely be bad PR. I think people are starting to calm down from the hysteria, Udonis Haslem comes to mind. If this were true I'm more upset at AW's DUI conviction. That would hardly be meaningless if that were actually it. That's a player cruising for a suspension and another black eye for the organization. All just sheer speculation though.

I've been reluctant to bring this up, because these things can get out of hand. I was waiting to see if Donte gets a DNP for five games in a row before saying anything. Drug infractions are usually kept in house by the team and also by the league for the most part. I also believe a first time infraction is a five game suspension. I seem to remember that Millers infraction was revealed much later by the league. On one level it makes sense, especially when you have a game where Head and Wright are both unavailable and Greene doesn't play. On the other hand its something you don't want to see happen.

i agree with this.
We fans see a lot of potential in greene. But upto now all greene has shown are occasional highlights of those potential, most notable of which is that block on kobe bryant. He never really showed the consistent effort to play intensely in games.
And i agree that greene has consistently shown more intensity and fire waving a towel at the bench than he does in a game. I also think he's got more love on his mini-show "horacio" than his job as a basketball player. This is what it seems he likes doing. Let coach westphal give it to him.
Greene's lackluster approach to his nba career is just too juvenile.
How old is he now anyways?
And wtf are you waiting for donte?!!!!
You are so frustratingly stubborn !
If they were In-House suspending him im not sure they would be keeping him active.
On another related note, Do any of you guy follow Donte on Twitter? Heres a plug first : For all the twitter haters (I dont 'tweet') its a fantastic source of information. Most, if not all, reporters tweet something before they bother writing up a story for it. Comes in handy around trade deadline time .. but anyways ..
He has been tweeting alot about his playing time lately. He tweeted a picture of a fan made "Free Donte Greene" T shirt. The words havent come out of his mouth directly, but he is retweeting ( making public things sent diractly to him ) other people saying things like "Kings could have used you" or "You could have stopped Rudy Gay" Stuff like that. Obviously he is unhappy about it and it SEEMS as though he hasnt been given a real reason why he hasnt been playing because if it was some sort of in house suspension Im sure he wouldnt be making these comments. Weird situation but im sure the dumb twitter stuff isnt helping.
Passive aggressive "tweeting" doesn't seem like the most brilliant move. Going public with "play me or trade me" I would consider reasonable. "re-tweeting" on the other hand just justifies the coach's decision.
This. Also for those who keep saying it's Greene's lack of hustle or whatever when did you get invited to the kings' practices?Actually it's brilliant. Going public with "play me or trade me" means getting fined by the league.
"the Kings plan to feature Jason Thompson at small forward in order to guard some of the more sizable wing players in the NBA, including Team USA member and Grizzlies’ forward Rudy Gay."
SMFH if there was ever an indication that the kings aren't going in the right direction, then this just screams it.
Greene has been on the active roster however for all of the games so far, and he couldn't be if he were suspended.
Lets assume Donte has actually done or said something that has led to no playing time for him. Maybe they want to keep it in house. Maybe it would be something that would be embarrassing if made public. I don't think the public needs or is necessarily entitled to an explanation. Some things are better handled privately for the best interests of the people involved.
So ifits for reasons that have been kept quietly in-house, what benefit is there to us knowing, other than to satisfy our curiousity? As for reporters, they can probe all day and all night, but that doesn't mean their going to uncover the real explanation.
