Don't wanna sound too pessimistic but...

...I've recently thought why did Maloof decided to retire Webb's and Vlade's jerseys so quickly? Can it be because they have plans on moving the Kings to another city after that season and wanted to retire 2 legendary players' jerseys while it is still relevant? just a dark thought in this dark season...

Or maybe they wanted to boost attendance in a year where they knew it would be low due to a lousy product, hoping it would energize the fanbase and pull in a couple more butts into the seats for the remainder of the year.

I have been trying to be positive, but I have this feeling they will move soon. if the Cal Expo arena deal gets approved it will take years for a arena to be built. the economy being sh****, the maloofs will keep losing money. I will be a "Kings fan" for the rest of my life. pretty depressing man.

No Matter where the Kings are I'm going to be a fan for life aswell. hey I've never even been to California, I'm up here in Canada. GO Kings!

Do all of you think that California is the only place the economy is bad?

I don't get this "sky is falling" mentality about the Kings moving, as EVERYTHING the Maloofs have said and done is about keeping the Kings here. I swear they could sign a deal tomorow to build an arena with their own money and some would speculate that they would move the Kings to Vegas and bring in an expansion team or some crazy idea.

What is with you guys? It's like groundhog day with the same unsubstantiated "moving" posts over and over again.....

While I don't doubt the Maloof's are entertaining offers from other cities, I think the retirement of Webb's and Vlade's jersey's were done to re-ignite intrest in the King's and to fill seats. Oh yeah, and to express thank's for the memories. (last)

If you honestly believe this, down put your head down... now is the time to savor every last Sacramento Kings tidbit while you still can.

Also, of the 25 Mil lost this season, how much went to Mussleman and Theus?

No, that makes too much sense.

Seriously. Even if the Maloofs wanted to move, which I think they'd have done by now if they really wanted to, now is the worst possible time to do it.

I see the state of New Orleans is faced with a similar problem regarding the Saints and the Hornets... so the problem is fairly widespread.

I must conclude the jersey retirements are a marketing ploy. They are losing tremendous sums of money, and any decent idea is worth a shot. I also think both retirements are warranted. It's a win-win.

Well, if they're going to have to finance the bulk of the construction costs for a new arena, then now is the time to buy land and get contracts signed, while the market is bad. They're not going to get a lot of public funding right now, but there are some cities that would support a team and have sites available. Seattle immediately comes to mind.

I don't think they want to move the team, or are even seriously considering it at this point. But if they were, you buy when everyone else is selling and you sell when everyone else is buying. It wouldn't be the worst time to move right now.

I can't think of any team that self financed and relocated, usually the reason for relocating is because the home city won't fully finance a new arena but some other city will.

I can't look for it now, but over half the NBA franchises are expected to lose money this year.

Seattle passed a law forbidding anymore public financing of arenas or stadia. Unless some public entity outside Seattle comes up with something, Seattle is a pretty far-fetched destination for any NBA team at this point.

While things are especially economically deperessed in Sacramento, I believe the Maloofs want to keep the team here. Might they be forced to leave someday, because of no new arena? Possibly. That time isn't here yet.

I won't....I was born and raised in Cali, so its a whole diff. story when you grow up with the Kings. I just can't root for the Las Vegas Kings....Ewww. Hope it never happens though.

Why would they move from one run down arena to another run down arena?

There is already a forum for discussing the new arena. And the whole idea of retiring jerseys so they can move the team is just, in a word, silly. Especially since this is something the SACRAMENTO fanbase has been clamoring for almost since the day Webber and Vlade left - the old threads are there for all to see.

If people want to continue to discuss the arena situation - which also incompasses the possibility of moving or not moving the team - there are plenty of threads in the New Arena thread to do so...

I'm closing this as it's become pretty duplicative of what's going on in the other forum.

:)
