I'm waiting for Brick's balanced take on this too.I hope - Brick didn't get a stroke seing this and will be able to comment on this at some point
Are you going to buy the Kings?
They're cutting costs BUT according to at least two different articles they've told Petrie that they will open the wallets for a franchise player.
I'm stunned... some of you would complain about being hanged with a new rope.
Whatever, people... You wanted change, you got change.
Artest... I like that trade substantially.First they trade Webber for nobody. Then Bibby (who is playing great) for nobody, now Miller and Salmons for nobody. petrie hasn't made a good trade since 2002.
What is interesting is the Bulls fans are also upset with this deal... losing heart and hustle for softies.
I was all for salary dump for Salmons... No more of me screaming, "John, PASS THE BALL!" followed by Salmons dribbling the ball off his foot.I really don't think that's fair. How many people on this board wanted Salmons traded for just a salary dump? My guess is, Zero. He's definitely better than that. So we didn't get what we wanted. Not close.
Artest... I like that trade substantially.
Yeah, but they got rid of him too. Imagine if Bibby, Martin and Artest were on this team together. With Miller as a decent center. And hawes and thompson are getting good. We could've been a playoff team.
Well, lets see. We get two rebounder-bangers in Nocioni and Gooden, major upside guy in Diogu (7-4 wingspan for 6-9 and 250!!!) who is real hustler and potential rebounder and unknown in Simmons in whom a number of teams had expressed interest. What does that all mean??? Beats me. Gooden becomes the 5 with Hawes I guess. The others are a confusing array. Other than cap relief next year hard to guess as 2 are youngsters.
Here is a Cedric Simmons draft report from 2006.
Simmons.
Wingspan: 7-4
Standing reach: 9-1
Maximum vertical jump: 35 inches
Positives: A big-time athlete with a body that's beginning to fill out. Unbelievable shot blocker. Explosive leaper. Excellent rebounder. Long arms give him a chance to be a center in the pros. Has put on quite a bit of muscle. Shows a lot of toughness in the paint, especially on the defensive end. Great in the open court.
Negatives: A very raw player on the offensive end. No real shooting touch to speak of. Gets most of his points via dunks.
My vote on this at this point: 5 out of 10.
If we are looking to trade Nocioni (who is already 29 so im pretty sure we are) who are some possiblities at taking him? One that automatically comes to mind is...the Suns who seem to be lacking a quality SF aside from Grant Hill...another team that could be interested is the Blazers who are looking for a SF but we already had a trade for Diogu from them so it wouldn't make sense. Any one else?
Thank the great God Naismith that silliness is over. Striving to merely be a first round exit playoff team sucks... And we're looking forward finally. The last member of THE TEAM - with the exception of Bobby J - is now part of the past. It's time to close the book and start a new one.
3. Gooden is a much better teacher than the stoned Miller.
C'mon, can't you see it...this is NOW a championship caliber team.So what is the Kings roster now (Before waiving anyone)
PG: Beno, Bjax, BBrown, Cassell
SG: Martin, Cisco, Douby
SF: Nocioni, Greene
PF: JT, Gooden, Diogu, Simmons, Moore, K9, Sheldon
C: Hawes
I hate to say it but its really come down to this.
kupchak > Petrie
The Kings will be at 56mil next year right? The Kings are -10mil in Salary next year.
Well SAR's salary comes off and if we buy out Mikki as we all expect, that's another 10 so closer to 45. We have to sign our draft picks for about 5 putting us at 50. There are guys like Sessions and Milsap out there that could be had for our cap space...but I highly doubt we go on a spending spree.
