Grade the trade!

The one trick there would have been that then we would have had both Salmons and Banks on the books for 2011, whereas now we jsut have Nocioni. But I got the feeling that there was sufficient interest in Salmons that we could of at the very least dumped him for a shorter contract after a Marion/Banks trade.

Right, there was enough interest in Salmons that we could have at least traded him for an expiring to either Dallas, Portland, OKC, etc etc...and we would have got rid of KT!

Marion/Banks/expiring >>> Gooden/Noci/trash

When will the new players actually play? Will they be ready by Friday?

I can understand that it's pointless to talk about a deal that another team WASN'T interested in, but the Heat openly OFFERED it to the Kings and we said NO. Marion would have saved more $$$ than this deal did and we would have kept Salmons!

No they didn't. It was just rumor and speculation.

If that's what you go by, then all the rumor, speculation, and supposed inside sources ALL said Riley's #1 wish is to get J O'Neal. Once Toronto is on board, it was obvious there's no chance of Marion going to the Kings.

My guess is, the Heat was looking for a backup offer when Miller was discussed.

Gooden is better than Miller and Nocioni is at least just as good a player as Salmons. It isnt like we gave away our best player. I think the trade was just to get rid of Miller more than any other reason. Would we have been happy with anything less than getting a franchise player? Did we have enough to offer to get anything better? Maybe a pick, but thats about it.

First of all, it is debatable whose better between Gooden and Miller. Secondly, I'll take Salmons (who is the better player) and his movable contract any day over Noc and his awful contract. Noc is not a good player.

No one wanted a franchise player, stop being silly. If you'd been around to read what most people wanted, you'd see that. Obviously you can't always get what you want, but nobody wanted this. It was reported OKC wanted Salmons for an expiring and a pick. That would have been infinity x better than this junk. Keep Miller if you have to, you can always move him next year or simply let him expire.

This deal is going to come back to bite us in the ***. Noc has a terrible contract and he is not going to surprise everyone and be worth his contract.

Ugh. Sucks to have a gutless GM.

Yeah, but that discussion was from the Kings, and the Nets turned it down. Not the other way around like you stated. Big difference. At least in the article I read about the proposal. I'd like a link if you are trying to prove otherwise.

oh my bad... i just read it and assumed that they offered that guy... any ways.. talent wise we lose a lot... but attitude wise we got the better end...

Nocioni and gooden have always played productively esp gooden in no matter what team he was..

??? We turned down the Miller/KT for Marion/Banks deal because we didn't want to take on Banks 2010+ contract...so we turn it into a Miller/Salmons for expiring/Noci (WORST contract than Banks) deal?! I can understand that it's pointless to talk about a deal that another team WASN'T interested in, but the Heat openly OFFERED it to the Kings and we said NO. Marion would have saved more $$$ than this deal did and we would have kept Salmons!

But then we would have 2 contracts past 2010 (Salmons and Banks), not counting Martin, Garcia and Beno...

Wow! I just turned on kingsfans and saw the trade! I have to admit, I wanted something more exciting. However, I was a fan of Diogu's in college :)

Also, Idk why everyone is so down on Nocioni. Sure his contract sucks, but he is going to give us more bang for his buck than half of our other players.

I think his production declined because he was tired of Chicago. I think he will be a very nice role player for this team. Someone who plays a team game, and does a bit of everything.

Let this trade pan out a bit people before you jump off the mountain...

We have no idea what was out there as fans, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST DEAL POSSIBLE.

And guess what? If Geoff didn't bite and take the trade. ... and kept BOTH Salmons and Miller ---> You would have all called for his head anyways

Look, we have been calling for BOTH Miller and Salmons to be gone all year... Do you not think that other teams really want our crap??

Agree 100% .....this helps us move forward as a franchise....there is still more work ahead but with our pick this year (rubio) I think this year is our bottom because of the overpaid vets........next year the true rebuild will be in full force and nothing but learning for the kids....We are heading in the right direction...this trade was committed to rebuilding with the pieces we already have...................all you guys who are calling for youth and more picks how are we going to give time to all these players? plus Ike Diogu is a good prospect

plus Ike Diogu is a good prospect

to this point Ike has just been Sheldon Williams part deux.

I don't know why people just continnue to draft 6'8" unathletic power players into the NBA and expect them to magically work out. They almost never do. That is just too short for the major leagues. Great for college, but you get to the big leagues, and all of a sudden you are the same height as the shooting guards. You have to be a real special player to make that work out. Shook my heads at the initial chirping out of Golden State about how he was such a great prospect, shook my head again as Indiana took a chance at him, was nto remotely surprised to see him pinned, ala Sheldon, to the pine up in Portland, and now he is here. If we play Noc mostly as a SF, and if Gooden politely stays injured, he and Sheldon can badn around battlign for about 15 backup minutes a game, but we have managed to collect an amazing stack of PF type players -- JT, Mikki, KT, Gooden, Sheldon, Ike, Simmons an Nocioni are ALL primarily PFs -- that's 8 guys! Not much opportunity for any of them.

Almost guaranteed 4 of the 8 PFs will not be back, kenny thomas is in exile so he doesnt matter much any more.
Also if Ike doesnt work out fine, even better, Use the cap space on a good player (sessions) if we can turn beno into an expiring....we may be able to draft your guy Thabeet to shore up the defense.

And the rebuild is almost complete! ;)

Ike is in the final year of his contract too -- he's one of those PFs who will likely not be back unless he shows something, and how is he going to do that in this crowd?

You know, even with the few young guys we've been rumoured to get (Ike, McCants etc.), they are all enders. Wouldn't surprise me if we just let them expire, having never aquired them with intentions of re-signing them.

Seems to be more motivated by money than anything else.

He may not be able to play, but management will be able to evaluate him better now that he will be with the team for the rest of the year,i know playing time is the true evaluator however, management will be able to see what he really has to offer, i know we are not talking about a superstar and i haven't seen him play enough, to evaluate him and take your evaluations in regards to players on a basketball playing ability and how it translates to the nba game more than anyone on this board.

Well truth is nobody has seen him play enough to be 100% sure of anything, myself incluided. But he certainly hasn't shown much, couldn't get past Troy Murphy in Golden State/Indiana, or Channing Frye in Portland, and with only 28 games here, and all kinds of bodies stacked up on the roster at his position, its just hard to see how he is going to have a real chance to change 4 years of perceptions and get a new deal out of it.

I been around long enough. Just because I dont post a thousand times a week doesnt mean I am not around. If most are not looking for a franchise player then why all the complaining? I mean I can see if it were Martin , but Miller and salmons didnt do anything for the team just like Gooden and Nocioni so were exactly in the same spot. No harm no foul. Thats assuming Gooden and Noc are not an impact.

My insinuation that you haven't been around was due to your ridiculous claim that people are upset that we didn't get a frachise player, not because of your post count. That means nothing if what you're saying makes sense. What you said makes none.

Your logic is astounding. Because of all the complaining, it must mean people wanted a franchise player? So, it has to be one extreme or the other? It's not possible to want a young guy, to want a pick, or maybe just to not trade them for absolute junk? Nocioni is going to be impossible to get rid of. Terrible, terrible contract. We would have been in a better situation just keeping them, trading Salmons seperately, and letting Miller expire. Just don't take on a long, over-paid contract.

Assuming Gooden and Noc give us equal impact, it's still dumb. We've just managed to take on another long contract at the expense of saving a few dollars for this year. May be good for the owners - not for the franchise.

Bold 1: Lesson 1, just because something is "reported" doesn't mean it is true.

Bold 1: Lesson 2, OKC just sent Chandler BACK to NO because of a freaking toe that hasn't been an issue in over a year. They don't even know what they want.

It was pretty open. Even if untrue, Salmons was still wanted by alot of teams. You can't tell me this was the best out there.

The point still remains; you don't trade for the sake of it. Look at the thread in the personnel forum when this deal was first reported as a rumour. Pretty much everyone would have been delighted had this not gone down. It's just silly.

I, for one, am glad we have a GM who is not influenced by fans who have no inside knowledge of the team.

It's obvious by now that this IS the best deal out there.

I know it's hard to swallow for some fans that an 18-pt scorer is not wanted universally but the reality is that most likely the other options are to trade Salmons for Roger Mason or Jerry Stackhouse.

Don't worry about it. Natt's going to be playing all of them 5 minutes here, six minutes there. He's going to take the rest of the season to figure out his rotation, and see who can do what, and how they all fit into with one another, their strengths and weaknesses. It's going to be one of those "learning processes". We will all learn a great deal I'm sure.
