After the Chicago trade, Hopeshype have the Kings payroll at 66.3M for 2010.
By dropping options of Williams(4.3M), Douby(2.2M), Simmons(2.6M), Brown(.7), Diogu(4M). It'll just be 52.5M.
Plus possibility of Moore buyout only 2M guaranteed. It'll be 48.5M
The tricky part might be Reef 6.6M. If league accepts exclusion. It'll leave us to just 41.9M

That's serious 2009 FA contender.

Hoopshype doesn't count the Qualifying options, and team options as part of the salary..

EDIT: let me see actually..
This is if we don't pick up Moore's 6mil option and buy him out at 2mil.
10mil to KMart
7.5mil to Nocioni
8.5mil to Thomas
6mil to Beno
2mil to Moore
2.5mil to Hawes
6mil to Garcia
2mil to Thompson
1mil to Greene

approx 4.5mil to draft pick.

All these figures are rounded to the nearest half mil...
so we are looking at 50mil in salaries.

Not everyone wanted them gone for nothing.. It was either picks or expiring contracts.. I wish people would stop saying "well you got your wish, they are gone". It's not true. I wanted them gone but not for nothing. As i said earlier before the trade happened that I want them gone, but woudl rather keep them if we weren't going to get picks or all expiring contracts.

That was not an option for this team I am afraid.

Yeah...I'm not too worried about what happens THIS year, because the key moves will be made NEXT year. Everything being done now by Petrie/Maloofs are for obvious reasons, to save money and posturing for 2010.

long time fan, first time post

the kings are in last place and will probably finish the season that way. there was no trade that we could realistically make that would change that. the season is over.

this deal isn't that bad at all. nocioni is decent (a lot better than kenny thomas) and it's not like he's incredibly over paid. he's a great role player, and we save some money to hopefully grab a nice free agent this summer that no one else wants because they are all waiting and wishing for 2010. that paired with a nice draft pick this year....the Kings will be back on the rise next season.

I think the problem here is that we're not trading for the present...instead, we seem to be looking at the past resumes of the vets (Nocioni averaged 23 and 10 in the '05-'06 playoffs, Gooden has been to the NBA Finals as a starter with the Cavs) because their current seasons seem to be nondescript. Both have already peaked, and are best fit for playoff teams, and not for us.

Not only that, the youth we are trading for have been tested and tried by many other teams (Diogu's 3rd team with us, and Simmons's 4th) and at some point their potential has to be exhausted, despite their age--they are what I call "end of the bench potential players"--players who can't get minutes and rely on their "potential" and cheap contracts to stick in the league. I like Diogu so maybe I shouldn't be too harsh, but when we were unable to trade for "productive potential" in Nate Robinson, Tyrus Thomas or Joakim Noah, therein lies the problem.

I wish Geoff aggressively swung a move for real talent who can be with us for the long term, rather than assembling a group of busts, has-beens, undersized big men and average veterans. It might be interesting to see if there's any diamond in the rough players (that's what we thought we had with Beno at least...) but it's not a conducive way of assembling a playoff team. I know we're trying to clear salary for the long run, but it's best to assemble talent along the way instead of what seems to be on the losing end of trades time after time.

Welcome to KF!

Even without having seen more than three hours of NBA anything this season, I still feel pretty confident that my defeated indifference is the appropriate reaction to our trade deadline wheeling and dealing.

Give Petrie an extension- I love this deal. Do people forget we have THAT pick in the draft? Think about it- Thabeet with this team would be monstrous.

I love this deal- a fantastic trade of two injured, squeaky parts with questionable attitude for long-term flexibility, outside shooting, and depth.

What, honestly, did people expect?

Is it wrong of me to hope Gooden fails his physical and we turn around and deal with OKC Miller/Salmons deal with something like Wilcox/Watson and late 20's 1st rounder? I can dream can't I? D:

Not wrong at all -- grab a bat and head on down to the airport and make it happen. :p

I'm sure we waive the physical for Gooden since he his currently on IR. A side note - tonight Kurt Hinrich has 31 pts off the bench for Bulls in 113-104 road victory over Milwaukee.

Ok....I've had time to digest this trade now. I was quite angry when it was first made.

now it makes a little more sense to me. Nocioni is a little nasty. We shed a lot this year. When Shelden and Mikki are gone, then Kenny Thomas next year we have a back up 3/ 4 for a couple more years after that. That mid level money would have to go to some kind of back up, so we're not hurting the cap all that much. I can't quite figure out Diogu though. Diogu and Nocioni don't both fit.

Diogu is a PF more so than Nocioni. So after Shelden, Mikki and Kenny are gone. We have Thompson Nocioni Diogu..... We have Garcia and Green at the 3. If we're going to let the 3 be set with those 2, Nocioni wouldn't back up the 3 very much. So either Nocioni or Diogu ride the bench quite a bit.

And this year Mikkie, Nocioni or Diogu will ride the bench a lot. Once Gooden comes back there are even more riding the bench.

The other down side is Nocioni could steal development minutes from Green.

Now ideally another trade happens that gets us another expiring contract involving either Nocioni or Diogu. The other thing is those 2 are movable contracts. I know, I know. we've heard that before, but this isn't Kenny Thomas at 10 million.

This is certainly possible, and it doesn't even have to be a FA. As nbrans pointed out, Wizards might be willing to give away their pick, if we are ready to use our cap space to take some bad contract and get them under the LT. Similarly, some other owners might be willing to give up some assets (like Hornets tried to give away Chandler and Suns last year gave away two first rounders to get under the LT), to save money and get under the LT.

That shall require us to take back salary though, probably even a bad contract. The owners have to be willing to bite the bullet. Might be tough in these times.

Since Gooden is currently injured don't the Kings have to waive his physical? He will obviouisly fail right now. So, the Kings would have to waive correct?

Or can they have a physical performed on all the other parts of the body and just go with the understanding that he has a groin injury.

I don't know why people are so guted by the trade. Im just excited now that are youngins are gonna get alot more playng time now. I know we didn't get any draft picks in return, but at least we didn't get any long contracts in return. And we do also save money.

Thompson and Hawes starting permenantly now... I think that's awesome!!! Im hoping Gooden comes of the bench anyways.

Ok we might not win, but at least it gives them exerience. I wonder who will start at the 3, Cisco or Nocioni?
?!?!?!? Nocioni has 3 more years after this season!!!

From Sam:

Miller/Salmons for Nocioni/Gooden from a salary cap perspective: It saves the Kings $13.5 million in cap room for next year, but they add $6.9 million in 2010-11 and $6.7 million in 2011-12.

Miller/Salmons for Nocioni/Gooden from an overall financial perspective: the Kings wind up spending $25,000 more than before.
Petrie with another foul ball.

I don't get this trade at all...if the Kings REALLY wanted to save money THIS year, why the hell didn't we trade Miller/KT for Marion/Banks?! That would have saved TONS of money in 2009/2010, but added money in 2010/2011, just like this deal is doing! Or hell, trade Miller/Salmons for Marion/Banks!!!!!!!!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salmons=shorter contract and therefore easier to move=better rebuilding chip. So no, Salmons is better to have in a rebuilding effort than Nocioni.

Cap space gained this summer is not significant enough to make an impact. You never know, but it's more than likely insignificant.

Brad pissing and moaning is inconsequential to the rebuilding effort. Hell, waive him if it's that bad, it wouldn't make a lick of difference.
Does anyone know if we can use this cap space with another trade, i.e., if we have $6M in cap space, can we trade away a contract for $6M, and take back $12M, or does it have to be used separately?

If the above is possible, wonder if we could interest someone in Miki? He has a buyout for only $2M. So, the other team could trade us $12M worth of contract and waive him for $2M, saving around 10M in salary (and potentially 20M if they are over the LT).

Of course, we need to pick the salary, something Maloofs might be very reluctant to do. But it certainly opens up an interesting possibility to trade with a team significantly over the tax (e.g. Phoenix).

That's actually a good point -- it was reported the holdup in the Miami deal was Banks, but his deal is for considerable less than Nocioni's, so either it was Mimai who was holding things up, or we just waited too long and were left scrmabling once they used Marion to get O'Neal.

Noc is the better player of course.

The problem with all the, "why didn't we trade for so-n-so instead" is that we are assuming the other team wants our trade more than they do someone else's. Geoff cannt trade with a team that is not willing to take what we will offer.

sorry for the late reply here is that info i read

"The New Jersey Nets also talked to the Kings about a deal that would send Miller and Salmons to the Nets for Ryan Anderson, Stromile Swift, Eduardo Najera and Trenton Hassell, an Eastern Conference official said."

from yahoo sports
Yeah, but that discussion was from the Kings, and the Nets turned it down. Not the other way around like you stated. Big difference. At least in the article I read about the proposal. I'd like a link if you are trying to prove otherwise.

??? We turned down the Miller/KT for Marion/Banks deal because we didn't want to take on Banks 2010+ contract...so we turn it into a Miller/Salmons for expiring/Noci (WORST contract than Banks) deal?! I can understand that it's pointless to talk about a deal that another team WASN'T interested in, but the Heat openly OFFERED it to the Kings and we said NO. Marion would have saved more $$$ than this deal did and we would have kept Salmons!

I'm pretty sure Gooden will be taking up the minutes Miller has left behind.
Even if he does, it shall be only for a couple more months. Brad would have done so next year too.

ps: I am hoping we shall not resign him. In fact, Hollinger in ESPN mentioned that we might buy him out, to allow him to sign with a contender, and saving ourselves some dough in the process.

The one trick there would have been that then we would have had both Salmons and Banks on the books for 2011, whereas now we jsut have Nocioni. But I got the feeling that there was sufficient interest in Salmons that we could of at the very least dumped him for a shorter contract after a Marion/Banks trade.

Rebuilding ohhhh yeah, sure we could have got more in the trade and the future could be potentially brighter but im glad were there now....With KT to go of course
