People wanted to move Miller and Salmons and that's apparently being done. (Thanks for the post, Joel.)

As KMart23 has pointed out, this means more minutes for the kids, also something people around here have been clamoring for. The whining is just silly IMHO...

And I don't have a real problem with any of it. It did move Miller and Salmons and got us three expirings.

Why is everyone so down on Nocioni? I really like the guy. Four years and $28.4 million is basically MLE money. It's not bad for a player in his prime with his ability.
WE don't need a prime guy. That's why we all wanted to trade Salmons. Becuase he is not in our youth, rebuilding movemnet.
And now what? we got a player who is not better than Salmons, who gets paid more, who has longer contract and not in youth movement?? this is ridiculous. Kings should have kept Salmons.

No, it didn't. Nocioni is signed through 2012.

And how do we know Natt isn't going to play Gooden ahead of JT?

I think Nocioni is taking a lot of heat not because he is terrible but because he is more of the same. 29, lengthy contract, and a average starter... not what we were looking for. No picks and no young prospects. like nbrans said this move was purely finical without and real gain for the on court product.

this is another step in rebuilding..

like the previous poster said, as long as we dont pay any of these players to stay past their current contracts we will be good. i would be extremely upset if we paid gooden to stay past this year.

I think people wanted youth, future flexibility, and time for the kiddoes. Non of which was accomplished to extent which it should of. This is an instance were doing nothing would have sucked less.

From Sam:

Miller/Salmons for Nocioni/Gooden from a salary cap perspective: It saves the Kings $13.5 million in cap room for next year, but they add $6.9 million in 2010-11 and $6.7 million in 2011-12.

Miller/Salmons for Nocioni/Gooden from an overall financial perspective: the Kings wind up spending $25,000 more than before.

Nocioni is the new Kenny Thomas. Comes in at age 29, signed through the 11/12 season at $6.5 million when he'll be 32. He's ALREADY an albatross.

Seems like this was just a short term dump to save money for next season. Just a horrendous, horrendous trade.

I do like Diogu and feel like he's never really gotten to get a shot, but now that we have Drew freaking Gooden he'll probably still be stuck at the end of the bench.

Just an unbelievably horrible trade that seems to have been motivated purely by financial considerations.
I heard the Diogu rumor to, but I am not reading this in the official report. ESPN is reading Nocioni, Gooden and Cedric Simmons. I am not hearing about Portland being involved to get us Diogu.

FWIW,

i'm glad salmons is gone. he was not a team player and pouted when things didn't go in his favor. now we get a true team player that does the dirty work in nocioni.

Reading is fundamental...

Gooden, Ruffin and Simmons all have expiring contracts worth $7.1 million, $1.1 million, and $1.7 million respectively.
How do we know Natt is going to do anything? Sorry but I'm glad we moved Miller and Salmons and I don't think Drew Gooden is going to come in and set the world on fire...

I think Nocioni is okay and moveable...but again, we moved Miller and Salmons which is what just about everyone around here was asking for. Perhaps you should have been a little more specific...

BTW? I added a poll for people to grade the trade...

Knowing Kenny Natt though Gooden will start.. Knowing Petrie he will like his numbers and offer him a contract at the end of the season in the range of 8mil/yr.. Nocioni will start and Greene will still be at the end of the bench.

Money wise it's weird... It saves the Kings some cash until next season only. After next year the Kings will be bled from Nocioni's contract which was more than Salmons right? It's like they are adding a bandage which will fall off after a while.

EDIT for VF: Reason I was talking about Gooden in that way was because he lit it up in Chicago last year after he was traded there. I believe he only started in about 70% of the games in Chicago but averaged a double/double (13ppg 10rpg) and had a little over a block a game.

If Thompson gets in a bit of a slump we might see Gooden taking his spot.

Nonsense. Salmons is a much better player then Noicioni with a better contract. He was moved as a way to get rid of miller and save this team some money in the short term.

We don't know for sure. Didn't Natt coach Gooden up in Cleveland what if he decides to place him in the starting lineup over JT. And Donte Greene minutes will probably still be the same.

This is rediculous trade to be honest... As Amick pointed out it adds to our '10 and '11 cap and didn't even net us a draft pick which is all I really wanted out of any deal including Salmons. This surely couldn't have been the best offer out there....? Or was it?

That is 10000000000% true....what were they thinking. Move miller for salary dump but if u get no pieces for the future keep salmons. Stupid stupid stupid x1000000000.

So much for all the Petrie is a genious talk. FIRE AWAY!!!!

Who wasn't specific about what they wanted? Pure expirings and young players is all ANYBODY wanted. I don't think anyone wanted to take on a 29 year old small forward, worse than Salmons, and signed a year longer.

All this did was clear some salary in the short term. The team now has $10 million in the offseason, which, judging from all signs out of ARCO, probably will just be sat upon.

Bottom line is that we now have two Kenny Thomases on the team, only one happens to be Argentinian.

Well, next year was the immediate concern. Did all of you read the article about the Maloofs losing hundreds of millions of dollars in the ponzi scheme?

Here is the result. Immediate cost cutting for next year. Worry about the years after when they come. Only a slight increase in overall dollars, but spread over another 2 years. I think the main concern was an immediate dump of Miller's salary for next year.

People might have wanted to trade Salmons, and Miller BUT pretty much all of us discussing this trade before it happened said we would rather keep our pieces than let this trade happen..

So No.. we did not want this trade.. We would have rather hold on to our two pieces.

This franchice is an absolute mess, top to bottom. It reminds me more and more of the 90s everyday...sadly, minus the amazing loyal fan-support.

As I tried to point out before, once again we traded Miller a year too early and had to throw in a very good player in order to make it happen. Horrible. Look what Lafrentz nets Portland and you'll see what a little patience could have netted this team. And to throw in a player like Salmons as incentive to take on a soon to be expiring $12million dollar deal? God, they suck.
