I am preparing a very angry letter to DishNetwork about the "blackout" of the game in some areas...

I plan to send copies to the Bee, to the Maloofs, to Comcast, and virtually anyone else I can think of.

What I need to know is if you're watching the game on DishNetwork channel 409, where are you located? I'm especially interested in people outside the main Sacramento area. There is some stupid line being drawn that shouldn't be there at all, especially if people in southern Oregon and western Nevada are able to get the game.

Thanks for any information. I'll keep everyone informed of any possible progress I make.

I am in Oroville, California (about 70 miles north of Sac) and I DO NOT get channel 409 on Dish Network... let me know how I can help.

i'm in elk grove CA and i have dish network, just recently upgraded my top 60 package to top 60 plus. i didn't get the channel 409 tonight until i called dish network and asked the rep what's going on. she said she knew what's going on (it was due to the recent addition of the channel to the package) and 'updated' my info. 15 minutes later, the channel was there. basically i started watching right near the end of the second round.

hope this helps.

VF21 are if you are online please respond. I am in Alabama and i just saw this post and didn't know about channel 409 until now. I don't know if it was blackedout or not but i am watching the wrap up show can you see that??

Wow!! I am getting the wrap up show too......oh, big deal...what is a wrap up show (or pre-game) without the game itself.

But, thanks, good to know that I get the channel here in Illinois for other local programming.

found out from DishNetwork that it isn't them that blacks out the games but it is comcast or sacremento organization that does this. They said they only provide the channel they have nothing to do with black outs.

why don't they blackout this USC game? Oh I know why. I don't give a damn about USC so therefore i can watch everyone of their games. Btw VF21 after further investigation it isn't DishNetwork, The Kings, or Comcast that blacks it out. It is the NBA.

I'm not going to let this go, fellow Kings fans. There is NO REASON whatsoever that those of us outside Sacramento but within the area of northern California should be subject to the blackout rule for this Comcast channel.

I'm going to follow up on this with every "source" and "connection" I have and I'm going to get a logical explanation or I shall know the reason why!!!

Entity - While the NBA might issue the guidelines, it is up to the carrier (DishNetwork) to ensure they're followed correctly. They (DishNet) don't have a clue about what's going on...

They're gonna hate me before this is over.

Um, ComCast isn't blacing it out, they SOLD the rights to the channel to Dish, to do with what they wish.. What MAY be happening is they sold the package on a 'per subscriber' basis and Dish didn't pay for the subscribers in that area? Although THAT doesn't make sense if 6th can see the games way over there in Illinois.
BTW, aren't the blackout zones determined by the league? Maybe you should be firing off some heated e-mails to NBA.Com, who seem a little fuzzy on where, exactly Sacramento is located.

You know what? THAT makes more sense than anything else I've seen, heard or read. I'd be willing to bet they went by zip codes and there's a list somewhere of what zip codes are included in the contract!

Thanks, KG! You've given me an idea!!!

:D

I live in Clovis, which is about 3 hours drive south of Sacramento, and yes I have DishNetwork and last season I was able to see all of the Kings games. This sucks because it was only this season I became a fan of theirs.

It's confusing, I was thinking of getting FoxSports for southern california, but I dont think they broadcast any Kings games. I dont know what to do... Doesn't FoxSports broadcast most games in their specific regions? I've never had FoxSports, but I'd imagine they would black out the games too if they were broadcast, or so some lady from DishNetwork told me, but she sounded uninformed so I dont know.

NBA is a money hungry organization. They are the ones that get the money from league pass. They are the ones that basically say hey if these fans love this game so much lets make them pay for it. What i don't get is ppl in Sacramento get TBS i am sure. I bet they don't black out Braves games. and WGN don't black out Cubs games. Hell come to think of it KTLA is on my dish and i see all Clipper home games whOOOOOOOpidy dooooooo.

DishNetwork is lying through their teeth, IMHO. If they tell someone that only the people who get Sacramento local channels are eligible to get Comcast Sports Net West, heads are gonna roll. I've had Sacramento locals for over 2 years...legitimately.

These people don't know their heads from holes in the ground.

I shall not rest until I find the truth!!!

;)

How many times have you called Dishnetwork in the last week? I have called during and after every Kings game thus far. Just wondering if they will eventually give in.

I'm both watching and not watching. I have 3 TV's, one with a DVR unit and 2 with regular units.

The DVR TV, which is the 'main unit' in the house gets 409.

The others don't.

So it may be an issue of them not sending programming signals to all of the recievers yet.

Thats exactly it. I remember Tom Shehan of CSN saying it will take a few days for everybody to get theirs..... Be patient fellow Kings fans... Well try atleast:p

troosvelt - I get the channel. It was showing everything up to and including the pre-game show. Then it switched to the "This program is blacked out in your area" message. As soon as the game was over, the message disappeared and the post-game show was on.

When I called DishNetwork, I was told the game was blacked out per the NBA rules. I checked the nba.com website and found the following as pertains to blackouts of games:

If I want to see my home team, should I purchase NBA LEAGUE PASS?
No, NBA LEAGUE PASS is intended for people who want to see games other than their home team. Local games are usually available on your regional sports network or over-the-air station.
Aha, a regional sports network like Comcast perhaps????

What are blackouts?
Blackouts take place when a televised game is televised locally in your area. If a game is blacked out on NBA LEAGUE PASS in your local area, you should tune to your local station to see the game.

Why are there blackouts?
Blackout restrictions are intended to protect the local television telecasters of each NBA game in the respective team's local market. NBA blackouts are not based on arena sell outs.
Ah, I see. So the local television telecaster (Comcast) is supposed to be protected "in their local market." The Bee said 409 would be showing Kings games in southern Oregon and western Nevada. Are those considered part of the Kings' local market?

This is just bunk...

are you saying I will eventually get it? or are you only referring to those in your zip code? I'm VERY confused, help me!! I live in 559.

someone mentioned Comcast? I know that is a cable company, so if i sign w/them, i'll be able to see the kings games? what is it? and do i have to actually sign w/them? because i already have dishnetwork. HELP ME!

If you're three hours south of Sacramento, you may be considered to be within the Golden State Warriors "local" area. It's all still very confusing, and there are more questions than answers.

Comcast is a cable company. If they serve in your area, you should contact them to see if they'll be carrying Comcast Sports Network West for you.

If you have DishNetwork, you most likely will have to get League Pass.

We'll let you know more when we know more.

I have League Pass. Last season I didnt get the Clippers, Warriors and Lakers games, this season i also am not getting the Kings. Anyhow, is Comcast Sports Network available to DishNetwork subscribers?

Please take a few moments and read ALL the threads that have Comcast or DishNetwork in the title.

You'll see that there are NO easy answers right now.

Now, back to my original query:

If you have DishNetwork and channel 409 shows up on your TV, where do you live and were you able to watch the Kings-Phoenix game?

Someone mentioned all the companies were blaming the NBA head office...

Listed phone no. for NBA Entertainment Inc. in Manhattan---(212) 759-3507

Might be helpful if you either want to complain, or see if the other companies are telling the truth or not.
