Which one would you rather have for next season, assuming the contract is reasonable. It also does not factor in many variables like who the Kings get with their 3 upcoming draft picks, etc.
On the other hand the next Sacramento Kings fan to advocate blowing capspace on a 6'8" PF should be beaten to death with a Kenny Thomas blow up doll.
McCants is the much more accomplished player, although even so he's a borderline case for signing. you move Kevin, then its yes. Otherwise minutes are tough.

Yes but... and I know this is hard to take as we're all similarly traumatized... Ike Diogu is not Kenny Thomas. Nor would anyone in their right mind give him a $50 million contract. We're talking about $2-3 million a year for 2 or 3 years at the most. That's hardly franchise crippling.
I dont want to re-sign either one... their both just avg or below avg.
Since when is Kenny Thomas as big as Ike? Height be damned, if you are that wide and strong, and can work on Nene like that, then you can be effective. Just ask Barkley. On the other hand the next Sacramento Kings fan to advocate blowing capspace on a 6'8" PF should be beaten to death with a Kenny Thomas blow up doll.
Here's a question:You are right that Ike Diogu is not Kenny Thomas. The scary thing is that Kenny Thomas was far more accomplished back in his prime.
I think most of the lingering Ike Diogu fad, tonight's off the wall outburst aside, really goes back to people getting too high on and still remembering an undersized guy for his college production. Tonight was very impressive. If he could do anything remotely like tonight on any sort of consistent basis, he probably would have already been doing it. One of the reaons I thougth we'd play him after we got him to find out -- if he's doing this for the last two months at least there would be an argument. But instead we shortened the rotaion, smallballed, wasted time with Booth. And now we have one ridiculous aberration from a player literally playing for his NBA life. He could easily be off to Europe next year. You can't throw guaranteed money at a uy because he was good in college and one had a good game for you.

Here's a question:
If the kings don't get the pick they want, and end up not getting Blake or Thabby, then it's clear they still need some help up front because a Hawes/JT lineup with no bench isn't going to get it done, and Donte and Noc aren't PF's. And I don't see any good reserve bigs on the market, so Ike getting a small deal might be good for the kings if they end up drafting Rubio or another perimeter player. No?
They don't have to make that qualifying offer to keep him. I don't see any team giving him that money, so I'm sure that if the Kings don't keep his rights, they could still offer him a competitive deal when he becomes a UFA.I believe that Ike & McCants are both in the 4th yr of their rookie contracts. The CBA requires that the Kings make a Qualifying Offer to both or they become UFA's. The minimum offer is 30% more than their 4th yr contract. Ike's offer would have to be $3.9M and McCants is $3.6M. Without the offer the Kings have no rights to either player, and they can go and sign anywhere without the Kings having a right to match the offer.
In your senario, where the Kings don't get Griffin or Thabeet, but take a PG with the 1st pick, then Ike may be better than any big available with the Houston pick. But, then he'd have to be since he's going to cost you $3M more than the 24th draft pick. Still the Qualifying Offer is only for 1yr, & might be worth the gamble.
McCants is a better player by far outa the 2 but because Ike is coming off a possible career game everyone wants Ike???
Lets try and sign good players. NO MORE BENOS! NO MORE THOMAS'S! even if both these these players are cheaper
