it just sorta sucks that lots of board members who hardly ever venture in the lounge won't know that the voting is going on. i think the extra votes would really distinguish who people would favor. guess we'll just have to see what kind of turn out we get.
Good point. I posted a message in the Kings Rap board.

I think the individual draft commisioners may want to update that thread for the various drafts that will be going to a vote as the weeks progress.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey, I like that thinking Warhawk... I hope the randomizer karma is paying attention...

I'm in what seems like the dreaded 8/9 NCAA Tournament seed matchup, I could easily get bounced so I need something to console me...:)

pdx needs some love. He is the only person who fully appreciated punk rock on his list. He gets my vote.

pdx, I would have loved to see you put an Unseen album on your list.

I can appreciate that point of view... I went the other way on that, though: as it was when I was doing my ranking ballot, when in doubt, I pretty much went with whoever had more R&B.

EDIT - Or, like in the case in the Purple bracket, whoever had any R&B.

I'll get back to you if it ends up tied.

EDIT - Although, given the way the vocal sentiment has gone so far (as well as the actual voting, quite frankly), I must say that I'm genuinely surprised that the (1) vs. (8) matchup was the one you thought was too close to call... All things being equal, I don't think your abstained vote is going to turn out to be the difference but, now that it's open to the popular vote, you never know...
Yeah, even before I saw the vote tallies I figured my vote wouldn't matter much in the end. I own one album total from all of the artists in bozzwell's list (and that's a Beatles greatest hits album that would be ineligible in this draft). I'm a much bigger fan of the music in dime dropper's list. But if I'm on an island I'd want a little more variety than that, so... I didn't know who to pick.

If they end up tied and I'm the tiebreaker I'd probably vote for dime dropper. It's probably a good thing that it won't come to that. ;)

pdx, I would have loved to see you put an Unseen album on your list.
I have their first album and one or two others, good band, part of the Boston scene in the late 90s that spawned quite a few of my favorites so it would have been hard for them to crack the list when my favorite 90s Boston band got cut out (The Showcase Showdown, for those who care).

I'm blown away that I appear to have gotten the most first place votes. Wow, never would have seen that coming. eta: Especially since I seem to be toast :)

I hope you can pull it out. Brick has a solid list though.
Seriously though. State of Discontent is one of my favorite albums ever. Of any band.

LPKingsFan's recap

D-Mass takes the first matchup easily, powered by a series of LP favorites: Beastie Boys, Led Zep, Coldplay, Oasis, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam and R.E.M. He'll be up there in my picks for the eventual winner. A very strong showing.

The second matchup is a tougher call. I like Jerryaki's Bob Marley, Outkast, No Doubt, Jack Johnson picks, as well as the first cd I ever bought, Boyz II Men's II. But Kingzrule has some classics, too, in Pink Floyd, De la Soul and Parliament. In the end, though Jerryaki's collection (and the sentimental favorite in Boyz II Men) is too hard to pass up.

Tradepeja takes the third matchup handily with a collection of my favorites, including Sublime, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, two great Beatles albums, Skynard, Dr. Dre... I could go on. Another top contender for my overall pick.

Tough call between Brickie and pdx. Despite going with some good ones early on, Brickie seemed to be making a concerted effort to lose my vote in later rounds, culminating in an inexplicable selection of Kelly Clarkson ;). That said, still not a bad showing, and some of pdx's picks are a little too punk for my tastes. Brick is the pick.

On to the next bracket...

LPKingsFan's recap:

The first matchup is a tough call. bozwell's got some greats in there: Beach Boys, the Blue Album, Rubber Soul (one of the more underrated Beatles cuts, in my opinion), the Stones, Queen, Radiohead, the Roots (even if one of their weaker albums)... all some of my favorites. Dime dropper's bunch is a bit refreshing here for its abundance of hip hop, but in the end, it's probably too recent for my tastes, and the forfeits at the end hurt too much. Gotta go with bozwell.

Another tough call in the second matchup. It's temping to pick Spike straight up for Are you Experienced alone, along with Odelay and Raising Hell. But GGG has a good group overall, including four albums close to my own heart in Revolver, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 40oz. and Midnight Mauraders. Don't care too much for some of her albums towards the end of the list, but those four are too hard to pass up.

Starting with the first pick of Rage Against the Machine, I knew atxrocker would be a top contender for my eventual overall pick. And he didn't disappoint. A great collection here, and a good mix of my interests in modern and classic rock, as well as some great hip hop thrown in for good measure. There may only be one or two albums on this list I don't listen to regularly.

And for the final pairing: Slim's got some compelling choices here with two Michael Jackson albums, some quality funk and soul, and some more recent cuts in Jon B and Musiq that hit home for me. C-Diddy's got some good modern rock and alternative (love the Hootie pick). But Garth Brooks, combined with the forfeit at the end, is too much for me. Slim with the slim victory.

Wow, this seems like a lot of work. Thank you Slim, I really appreciate how much effort you're putting into this.

It's a lot of fun too. I am glad to see that my top picks are mostly seeded, which makes my voting easy. Only one head-to-head is giving me problems (in black bracket).

I can see how coaches poll would be all over the place. For the first 10 rounds we all had someone "steal" some of our favorite records, which tells me that the game would be pretty even or "all over the place".

Here's how I voted in this bracket:

Voted for my list, obviously. In rankings and voting I "pretend" that I am picking a list of albums to take to the desert island with me if I couldn't bring my own (or in the matchup involving me, my own list).

GGG - very similar taste to mine, if I made my own all time top50 list many of her records would make it. Some like Revolver would replace my own Beatles pick (Rubber Soul) in top20 some like Devo would not make top20 but still go in. That was easy.

Slim - I had this list at 3 in my rankings. Even though Slim's list does not have as much variety as many others have, the picks are extremely strong. Thriller, early Steve Wonder (if you're too young to remember it, make sure you don't miss out on it in the future), Prince... It would be easy for me to pass the time on the desert island with that list.

atxrocker - I had this list at 4. Very strong. OK Computer and Nirvana Unplugged would be so sweet on my own list. ;)

My recap:

D-Mass - This might be the most well balanced list out there. I am not sure about 2 Perl Jam picks back to back ;), but overall list works for me.

Kingzrool - Kingzrool and Jerryaki, you guys are killing me here. Killing me. I had you neck and neck in the rankings. In the end, I picked Kingzrool by the slimmest of the margines. I don't have any Cure on my list because I had to make space for non-80's alt music, but looking back maybe I should have included it and Kingzrool did.

tradepeja - I've been listening to Sgt Pepper lately - a lot. Let's just say that at least for now I cannot vote against tradepeja. The rest of the list is strong and variety is there.

pdx - what can I say. He steals my picks and I still vote for him. I am such a nice guy. :)

Thanks! Your list is up there with me for the same reasons. I actually didn't mean to have two PJ picks in a row. I PM'd a list of about three picks to Slim expecting that I'd only have one turn go by. I put two on there because if the first one got picked, I'd still end up with a PJ album on my island. Well, now I have two...but I really do love them both.

That's very interesting. I better make sure that I can use KF.com on my cell phone so that I don't have to do the same in other drafts that are going on now.

I had a few of these as alternates as well.

I had the Pistols as alternate for Clash's London Calling, then at the last moment decided to go with Ramones. My logic was, pdx already picked my favorite British punk album, I might as well go with my favorite US punk album. See your point though.

As for Fugazi, I had them high too, but when I re-ordered my list to keep it balanced they dropped out of my top 20.

Wow, I went higher than I thought. I knew I had a strong first 10-12, but I figured my forays into Emo and Country would drop me off most people's radars.

As for the voting, the matchups were all really easy, in both brackets. I stuck to my rankings and none of the lists that were matched up together were within 2 ranks. There was a couple instances where I had two of my top 8 choices matched up against each other. I wish I could of picked them both instead of picking between two of my bottom 8 choices in another matchup, but c'est la vie.

tradepeja - I've been listening to Sgt Pepper lately - a lot. Let's just say that at least for now I cannot vote against tradepeja. The rest of the list is strong and variety is there.
That's almost eerie. I've been listening to your best (and first real pick) Pet Sounds non-stop in the car, on the computer, on my iPod. I cannot get enough of it. I didn't think it would hold a candle to Sgt. Pepper's and always wondered why it was #2 right below Pepper's on the Rolling Stone's all-time list, but now I definitely know. And that was with them leaving Good Vibrations off it too!

For my so called recap, I chose D-Mass easily over Prophetess. I'm pretty sure I had you in my top 3 of rankings. Your list is very strong and I'm not even a Jack Johnson, Coldplay or Janet fan. Its just your Pearl Jam, Pumpkins, Oasis, Led, Beasties, etc. that ice it for me.

Jerryaki vs. Kingzrool was a very funny vote for me. You guys have 2 albums a piece I like. Both your Outkast albums cancelled out, so it ended up being The Eminem Show vs. Dark Side of the Moon. Dark Side, being one of the all-time greats, eventually won out.

the #3 vs. #6....what a hard decision for me :D

Brick vs. pdx took a while to decide. Back in Black is a great pick, and I like Dookie, and my parents have always been Tina Turner fans so I'm familiar with her stuff, but I just dislike new Green Day music. At the risk of sounding cliche, American Idiot was a sell-out album for me. I can see its appeal to some people of being a "ra ra down with the government" album, but....gah. I'll stop here. For pdx, I love Johnny Cash, Weezer, Iron Maiden, and Ice Cube and he had one of the few albums I actually checked out just from hearing about it on here (London Calling) and I ended up liking that one. Vote eventually went to pdx.

One thing I will say, its too bad we can see the results whenever we want. Is there a way to turn off everyone being able to see them? The suspense would be kinda nice

I had to make the vote public in order to make sure that there wasn't any double-voting going on; TTBOMK, there's no way to set it so that only moderators can see who voted, sorry.

Wow, I went higher than I thought. I knew I had a strong first 10-12, but I figured my forays into Emo and Country would drop me off most people's radars.
I forgave your emo picks for just having such a strong beginning to the draft. I think I ranked you 2nd, only below bozzwell.

bozzwell - your list is just wrong. I checked out both The Queen is Dead and Doolittle based on your selections/praise. As expected, they are awesome. Top that off with your Beach Boys, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, a great Radiohead album. Anyway, I'll stop gushing about your list, but good job.

GGG - Revolver, RHCP, and Sublime are enough for me. Maybe I should check out some of your other stuff I haven't heard of...

atxrocker - great Rage album, you got the Nirvana unplugged which is the best live album ever in my book, and you stole my STP pick (yet i'm voting for you? heh). Oh, and OK Computer is awesome as well.

C-diddy - You have the record for most albums in a row I like. Your first 9 are great. I'm not a huge Blink fan anymore, but that band was huge amongst myself and my friends in the early part of this decade, so thats a good novelty pick for me. You got Nirvana's 2nd best album, Eminems best album, and my favorite Tool album (which you stole, but here I am voting again) are all enough to look past the Senses Fail and Linkin Park :p. If I were an R&B fan maybe thsi would be a tougher pick, luckily for you, I'm not.

The Sex Pistols omission mildly shocked me, especially as surprisingly hard as the old first gen punk bands were getting worked.
That album was one of the first punk albums I bought, and played it incessantly as a pre-teen. But in the grand scheme of things this album just doesn't do much for me anymore. I'd name about a dozen albums and artists I'd take ahead of it, but I'd hate to give Bozz any ideas for any future drafts :)

I know. I feel bad that I couldn't vote for both of you in the first round.
My 2 and 3 are head to head somewhere. Yesterday it was looking like a rout so I almost threw my vote to the other party just because I thought they were both strong and didn't deserve to be blown out, today its tightened up.

I'm waiting to cast my votes until I get back to work and I can review how my computer ranking system matches up with my head to head preferences.
