Rejoice, my brothers and sisters. The Spaghetti Monster is with you. Blessed are you among sauces, and blessed is the spice from your shaker. Heated meatsauce, monster of taste, pray for us now and at the hour of our hunger. RAmen

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Whoa, Brick...a few of those might have earned you a higher ranking in my list! :p

Eh, yours was pretty high on my list anyway...
Yeah, well that was the decision I had to make down the stretch there that made some of those late picks bracing -- stick to my living on my island guns, or reorder to get some votes. Oh well. :p

Now for my list. The main one I feel like I missed out on is at #1. It was reviewed extremely favorably (many 5 stars and spots in the top 2 or 3 albums of 2006) and is really the best new-age progressive rock/metal around. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but its not for Muse.

1. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
2. Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
3. The Offspring - Americana
4. Tenacious D - Tenacious D
5. Bloodhound Gang - One Fierce Beer Coaster
6. Weird Al - Running With Scissors
7. Afroman - Because I Got High (uh..this one has some stories behind it :D)
8. [[failure here]]]
9. The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
10. Velvet Revolver - Contraband (why, hello Brickie)
11. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely (hadn't even heard of them before this draft)
12. The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
13. Gorillaz - Gorillaz
14. Pink Floyd - Meddle, Animals, or Wish You Were Here
15. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief, Kid A, or In Rainbows (all are great but lesser than the two that have been picked)
16. The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over or Desperado
17. Tool - Undertow
18. [[more failure down here]]
19. Slipknot - Vol. 3
20. System of a Down - Hypnotize, Steal this Album!, or Toxicity

A lot of double or triple ups....but looking at this list above I really can't believe what I would actually have to live without...

Also, I cannot believe no one picked a single Bob Dylan album. That left me stunned. I'm not really a fan, but I know millions are so there had to be a few onlookers really waiting to see Highway 61 or any of this other big albums pop up and they never did.

edit: i fail

I'm confused: you picked an album twice that actually got drafted? What exactly were you going for with this list?

Okay, that was less stressful than I anticipated.

Kind of funny how things worked out; I had a very solid top five, a solid 6-10, and a solid 11-15, but it took me forever to rank people within those groups of five.

My excess picks in no particular order:

Jurrasic 5 - Quality Control
Blind Faith - Blind Faith
Rolling Stones - Flowers
Herbie Hancock - Manchild
Peter Gabriel - So
Youssou N'Dour - Immigres
Santana - any album not picked
Prince - Controversy, 1999, Lovesexy
BeeGees - Spirits Having Flown
Black Uhuru - Anthem
Deep Forest - Deep Forest
Ray Lynch - Deep Breakfast
Steely Dan - Aja
David Grisman - Dawg Music
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
English Beat - Special Beat Service
Yes - Close To The Edge
The The - Soul Mining
Eurythmics - Touch

No particular order....

Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance
Culture Club – Kissing to Be Clever
Stevie Wonder – In Square Circle
Anita Baker – Rapture or the Rhythm of Love
Madonna – True Blue or Madonna
Leela James – A Change Is Going to Come
Mary J. Blige – My Life or The Breakthrough
Missy Elliott – The Cookbook or So Addictive
Peter Gabriel – So
Sting – Dream of the Blue Turtles
Whitney Houston – My Love Is Your Love
Bonnie Raitt – Nick of Time or Luck of the Draw
Tracy Chapman – New Beginnings
Journey – Infinity
Eric Clapton – Journeyman or Unplugged
Howard Jones – Dream Into Action
Culture Club – Kissing to Be Clever
Teena Marie – Starchild or Emerald City
Beastie Boys – Paul’s Boutique
Aretha Franklin – Who’s Zoomin Who
Nickelback – The Long Road or All the Right Reasons
Goapele – Closer
Mariah Carey – Merry Christmas, Daydream or The Emancipation of Mimi
UB40 – Rat in the Kitchen or some other album I haven’t decided on

I had a similar problem. Very easy 1-5, I knew that without even looking up the lists. 6-15 I just couldn't make up my mind. In that group everybody had albums that I considered either great or near great but no clear edge. I had to really start splitting hairs to arrive at the final rankings for me.

I'm going to predict Bozzwell, Slim, or Bricklayer wins this thing.

I will finish in the 14-16 range.

I'm really anxious to see the seedings! How many rankings are we still waiting on?

Four, officially. Although I'm guessing that Dime Dropper's further contribution to this process is "unlikely."

If it turns out that he's the only one I'm still waiting for by, say, tomorrow night, I won't wait until Sunday for him.

I'm still missing two ballots, although I'm only expecting one... Just as a reminder, I'll be closing the pre-rank voting at midnight, my time (read: Eastern Standard), and voting will be open to the board at 12:30 am, my time.

Bolded for emphasis, since sometimes people here forget that not everybody lives in California.

Desert Island Music Draft Thread - First Round (Purple Bracket)

This will be cross-posted in both brackets. The Black bracket can be found here . The original draft thread can be found here

Okay, time for the part you’ve been waiting for: each draftee’s musical list will be matched up head-to-head against the others. You are all invited to vote on the list which you like the best in weekly, single-elimination style voting, until there is only one left standing.

In each round, all of the head-to-head matchups for each bracket will be listed together, and you will be asked to vote on one draftee per matchup. Due to the number of draftees, I had to separate the first round into two threads for two different polls, which I will arbitrarily distinguish as the Purple bracket and the Black bracket. Head-to-head matchups will be tournament style, and assigned thusly:

(1) Black/Purple versus (8) Black/Purple
(2) Black/Purple versus (7) Black/Purple
(3) Black/Purple versus (6) Black/Purple
(4) Black/Purple versus (5) Black/Purple

EDIT - Oh, by the way: since it may not have been clear otherwise... to the draftees: in this round of voting, you are allowed to vote for yourself.

Now, because of the way this poll will have to be arranged, you will be required to make multiple votes. The vote will have to be public so that I can keep track of whether anyone makes a double-vote. With regard to this matter, I ask that you pay attention to whom you are voting for: because of the way the multiple vote factors in, it’s possible to accidentally vote for both parties in a given matchup, i.e. accidentally vote for (1) Black and (8) Black. I am including this in the OP with enough advanced notice so that everybody will be aware of what could happen. If, for some reason, you do happen to accidentally vote for both parties in a matchup, PM me before the voting deadline to advise me of the mistake and let me know whom you meant to vote for, and I will correct your vote. Any double votes that I have not been advised of by the voting deadline will be considered invalid, and not counted.

Now then, here are the official brackets and rankings:

Purple Bracket:

  1. bozzwell
  2. GoGoGadget
  3. atxrocker
  4. C-Diddy
  5. Mr. S£im Citrus
  6. Warhawk
  7. Spike
  8. Dime Dropper

Black Bracket:

  1. D-Mass
  2. Jerryaki
  3. tradepeja
  4. Bricklayer
  5. pdxKingsFan
  6. Monty'sBiggestFan
  7. Kingzrool
  8. Prophetess

I found the balloting process itself to be fascinating. I was particularly intrigued by how all-over-the-place most of the voting was, despite the vocal opinion that it would pretty much be a cakewalk for one draftee. Quite to the contrary, with the first half of the ballots received, said draftee wasn’t even in the top-five and, until the last two ballots were received, still wasn’t a lock for the top-three. What most surprised me was how there were more total first-place votes in the lower half of the “coaches poll” than there were in the upper half… see what I mean by all over the place?

Special no-prize goes to Jerryaki, for the highest overall ranking without at least one first-place vote. Now then, here are the official final poll results, with their overall score listed to the right, and number of first-place votes received indicated by parentheses:

  1. bozzwell – 146 (2)
  2. D-Mass – 145 (1)
  3. GoGoGadget – 142 (1)
  4. Jerryaki – 139
  5. atxrocker – 135 (1)
  6. tradepeja – 124
  7. C-Diddy – 122 (1)
  8. Bricklayer – 114
  9. pdxKingsFan – 112 (3)
  10. Mr. S£im Citrus – 107 (2)
  11. Monty’sBiggestFan – 105 (1)
  12. Warhawk – 102 (2)
  13. Kingzrool – 95
  14. Spike – 93
  15. Prophetess – 79 (1)
  16. Dime Dropper – 40
