David Robinson

Anybody think he might be a good coach for Hawes/Williams/draft pick????

havent heard his name just an idea.

Could be, but he actually wasn't much in the post so it would eb more everything else. Defense would be nice.

Think he's probably firmly attached to the Spurs though, unless he's got the coaching bug.

I wish Sabas were still stateside. Get past the language barrier and he is the sort of guy who could teach Spencer a lot.

I'd rather have Hakeen Olajuwon, although I'm sure neither he nor David Robinson are prospects to be a Hawes tutor in Sac. The Dream had the slickest big man post moves I think I've ever seen on a basketball court. As good as David Robinson and Patrick Ewing were as centers in the mid-80's to mid-90's, Hakeem Olajuwon was better overall and he usually proved it in their many match-ups.

great thread. i do think it would be beneficial to have a talented big man mentoring our young bigs. bynum, d. howard and yao all were mentored by HOF type big men.

I definitely think David Robinson is better than any of the bigs we have now. Even at 43, Robinson is better than K9, Shareef and Mikki Moore and he would give Brad Miller a run for his money. Yep, we should definitely sign him. ;)

Webber. Would be nice to have Webb sitting courtside and mentoring Spencer and whomever comes along.

Just because you're a great player, that doesn't make you a great teacher. I'm not saying that Robinson wouldn't be a good teacher. I'm saying that, historicaly, great players don't make great teachers, or great managers or coachs.
The reason being, is that they can't understand why a student can't do what they could do. Ted Williams was a terrible teacher and manager. So was Frank Robinson the first few times around. If you look around the NBA, its amazing how many coachs were point guards. Many of which were average players at best.
I think players that had to work harder to achieve, probably make the best teachers, because they truely had to learn everything about their craft.
Sometimes, the best big man coach, is someone we may have never heard of. Not as sexy as David Robinson though.

Bill russell teach him? :P i mean he already has that sweet post moves.. if he is taught by russell on defense then he would be good :P

do we EVEN HAVE a coaching big man?

Completely agree, although one anomaly would be kareem with bynum. I salivate at that teacher/student duo.
