Cousins Back for Team USA

A bone bruise is a good thing right? Can that lead to any long term problems? I was really worried and still am lol. I'd be so pissed
I once bruised my knee as well ( underside of the knee cap ) and I can say that the knee is one of the most inconvenient places to have a bruise. It took a year to heal. I'm sure Cousins will recover quickly as he's has access to the highest quality medical care.

They can linger. Its not great. What they call a bone "bruise" is actually a little fracture on the surface. They have a tendency to heal slow. A month maybe. But a lot longer if you are playing on it. If he shut it down right now it should be pretty much completely healed by training camp. But I'm sure he still wants to make the US Team, and it could have an impact in the coach's thinking for that. Its not the end of the world, but are they going to want to bring along a backup center who could have a knee issue and leave them short?

A bone bruise, especially on the knee because of the moving components, needs time to heal. I would expect Cousins to leave team USA.

Think he wants this too bad to do that. More a question of whether the coaches there use this as an excuse to take along the gopher.

IIRC, Cuz suffered a minor knee bruise once before when he banged knees with someone. I don't see it as being anything major. Even if his lower leg was left hanging by a sole tendon, however, he would insist on playing. After all, tis but a scratch.

like i said in another post.. don't make a difference to me if he makes the team or not. risk of getting injured in these meaningless scrimmage games is too much for our franchise.
Yeah like seriously he's our only legit player, if the George thing and now this is not enough to make him pull the pin nothing will, Again who is paying him 15 million dollars a season it sure as hell is not Team USA. I seriously cannot believe GM's/owners don't put something in the contract stopping them from playing in these things.

Cousins has already got something out of the experience, training/beating up on the best players in the world but once the tournament starts he's won't be playing against the best in the world anymore and it just becomes meaningless for the most part by NBA standards 90% of the players competing are scrubs hammering Nigeria by 60 points is not going to do anything for his career.

Okay, I'm genuinely confused. Do you not understand the importance of international play to DMC at this point? This is a validation of what he's been working for the past year, especially if you consider the slight he felt at not getting any kind of all-star recognition. He is not going to walk away and there's no way Vivek and Co. would force him to do so.

As an addition, if Cuz and Rudy make the team, it will go a long way towards clearing up the hideous reputation the organization has. Hint: more likelihood of signing high end FAs.

I have always wondered exactly what a bone bruise was but I think bricklayer's explanation is a good one. I doubt very much that if he continues to play, he will run a risk of hurting it more. Playing WILL slow down the healing. If he can play with pain, it's not so bad.

THIS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE and I am sure a lot of us are breathing a sigh of relief.

At least to me, USA basketball is the "I made it" club for NBA players. It's tremendous validation of your talents and contributions to the game. I imagine these guys actually want to represent their country and compete in the Olympics. That's an honor that very few people ever get to say they get the opportunity to do. Would you turn down an Olympic spot?

For some guys, not having them play makes sense. CP3, Paul. LeBron, Melo, etc. Those guys have been involved with USA basketball for the better part of a decade and are starting to get up there in years. They've had their time playing USA ball. Now it's the next waves turn. And it's pretty ridiculous that people don't want Boogie playing.

I just noticed that you're in Australia. Perhaps that explains the difference in POV regarding Team USA participation?

he has immense talent. he's busting his ass in these meaningless scrimmage games to prove he's worthy of being on the squad. this is scrimmage not the real deal olympic games where the gold is on the line. the only positive he can get is being around other proven players and the chance of getting hurt. sorry, to sound like a pessimist but it's clear that he is more talented than half of the bigs there. KD did the smart thing by pulling out. cmon, gonna chance getting hurt over some scrimmage games? cue the allen iverson practice video.

Big Cuz + Gay among others doing the ALS ice bucket challenge today at team USA practice. Looks like Boogie is moving fine.

Team USA really needs to rethink how they're doing things. You really want these elite high level PROVEN guys trying out like they're in 8th grade? Showing the coach how much they can hustle? In what universe should a guy like Boogie have to beat out a Mason Plumlee. It's absolutely ludicrous.

I work in construction and got myself a nice bone bruise on my hip bone lol hurt so bad and took me down for a minute. Its nothing serious and i was able to work just fine from then till now. He will have slight pain if it was anything like mine but he should heal up shortly.

They treat these players like they are trying out for the JV team. It is ludicrous.

Nah not really if it were Andrew Bogut playing for Australia I would feel the same way or even say Marc Gasol (who was injured last year) playing again for Spain. To me if your a highly important player on a NBA team (and getting paid well) you should not be doing these sorts of things. I don't mind players like Patrick Mills/Baynes who are easily replaceable and play limited roles playing in the WC but.

Okay then...we'll just agree that we disagree. I don't want to see the US represented by "easily replaceable" players. I want to see the best possible. :)

He either plays or he doesn't. He is a basketball player so he plys. There is no or should not be any second gear. If he gets hurt he doesn't play basketball anymore and we talk more seriously about keeping JT or finding a stop-gap center so e can get on with the season.

Cousins chances to make the team got better and he didn't even play tonight. Plumlee was not very good. They also need Cuz and his abilities now that Durant is gone. Faried was excellent vs Brazil. Rudy was just ok...didn't stand out. Interesting that Drummond and Lillard and Hayward or Derozan didn't play. They are either the cut guys or are going to play Wednesday and others will sit.

I wonder if Cousins will play the next game or two? Not sure why they didn't throw Drummond out there, he's a big body to bang, get rebounds and block shots.

Im also pretty confusex as to why Drummond didn't get any burn. He seems to fit the mold of the typical player that kryzewski likes to use at center. You'd think that Drummond/Davis next to each other in the front court makes all the sense in the world.

Drummond has great physical tools, that allow him to shine even though his fundamentals are sorely lacking. Andre doesn't communicate very well, reacts, not anticipate on D.

Team USA needs DMC for the simple fact that none of the other big have a low post gamr. DMC is going to destroy the WC down low and punish them when they foul him from the line. Just hope my man is healthy and no lingering issues with that knee remain.
