Cisco to show he can play now...

An article in Zonai.com on Monday, a spanish language sports site, had following headline but a broken link to the rest of the article:

"I'm going to try to prove that I can play right away," Dominican Guard Francisco Garcia said.

Tho' the Dominicans didn't do too well in the FIBA playoffs for the Americas, Cisco apparently turned a lot of heads.

Can anyone who speaks spanish try to find the rest of the article at Zonai.com? Thanks.

Wasn't that a quote from an article a while back? I'm pretty sure I saw it in a Bee article ...

I'm simply saying the article you saw (in Spanish) might actually have been based on something that hit our paper a while back.

They were probably the best team not to qualify for the semifinals though, and they just missed it by one game. They were the only undefeated team at one point, but then they lost the rest of their games when Cisco was the only guy on the team scoring any points. It was definately an impressive tournament for our newest King, even if his team didn't win anything.

On ESPN/NBA there is a rookie dialog section when all the rooks got together for the NBA rookie education sessions. About 2/3's the way down is dialog involving Cisco and several other rookies. It it Cisco was teased about only scoring 4 points in the final 4 game he played. I take it that was Louisville in the final 4? I had thought he was one of two leading scorers there as well as a top dog in the Dominican games. Anyone have better info?

He scored well earlier in the tournament, but really the story of that Final Four game was Cisco just getting completely locked down and nobody else stepping up. It was 4pts on 2-10. We'll have to see how that plays out -- but in college quick, strong players could cause him problems ala Peja.

Kings113 - It's just another indication that people shouldn't judge a player until he actually steps onto the court in the NBA.

If Cisco had gone 9-10 for 18 points would you still say you're "not putting that much into it"?

My only objection all along is that Francisco Garcia is NOT LeBron James or Carmello Anthony or Mike Bibby or Kevin Martin. He is Francisco Garcia. He's a rookie coming into the NBA and he may light it up big time or he could stink up the place. Most likely, his career will fall somewhere in between.

It's my humble opinion that a number of times people put too much emphasis on college - whether it was an erroneous time out call, a game-winning shot, or a pretty pathetic performance in the final four.

Of course Cisco is going to say he's ready to prove he can play now. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't. All rookies IMHO should feel they have something to prove, that they are going to go out and work their posteriors off to show their abilities and help their new teams.

I'm just glad it's finally closer to the beginning of the new season than to the end of the last one.

Well, he had Deron Williams on him who really is an outstanding defender, and on top of that the whole Illinois defense had him as their primary target. I think we already discussed this, in that game Garcia showed that he is a much better athlete than anyone on the court, but he did not get much help from his teammates in getting open or in them getting some pressure off of him...
