Chuck Hayes injury

I am a 6-way bypass survivor so have gone through the gamut of tests Chuck is likely going through as well. In my case I had chest pain with exercise but when they did the first stress test everything looked normal. It was only during a second stress test in which dye was injected then filmed were they able to determine that the bottom half of my heart wasn't beating but only during exercise. (Everything was normal when not exercising.) When they discovered that they immediately scheduled my surgery and wouldn't let me leave the hospital. I guess where I am going with all this is I am sure they have done a myriad of tests, got results back almost immediately and already expect what is going on with him, and the fact that he hasn't been rushed in for surgery should be a good sign hopefully.

The other good thing hopefully is that there were no real symptoms that led to this. Westphal said that there was no incident in particular, just tests they had done revealed an abnormality and they wanted to do more tests.

Jason Jones twitter : "Duffy's firm also reps Chuck Hayes. Said all tests on Hayes have come back normal thus far."

good news so far

Best wishes Chuck We need your rebounding real bad!!!!

I guess my pessimism WAS warrrented not that I take any glee in that. It's REAL bad news for Chuck and REAL bad news for the Kings. And to vent a little, a tweet from an agent saying everything is OK because magically the medical community did all that was necessary to clear Chuck on a week end is pure and utter fanciful thinking. Not sure how that served anyone and I hope the Kings knew better and were busily negotiating elsewhere. Said a different way, although we all relaxed for a day or two, I hope GP did not.

I suspect the Outlaw pickup was a sign that we knew this information and that we closed the door on AK leaving only one target left.

Bummer!

Hope its something that can be treated and within 12 months Chuck can be back on the court (similar to Green). I hope its nothing really serious to the point where he is not able to play the game that he loves any more.

I agree. It would be a real shame if he couldn't play anymore. In the meantime, I wonder if the Kings would think about using him as a big man coach this season. He could certainly teach our bigs how to play defense (and talk), and Cousins seemed to really be listening to Hayes from what I was hearing.

He might only could be a verbal coach, who knows what physical restrictions the doctors have on him until he clears up whatever is the problem.

I was having a semi-similar thought. Not a coach per se, but just keeping him somehow vaguely attached. Thing is I doubt that's legal. Still, he signed with us, was in camp, working with the guys...if its like the Jeff Green thing and he can come back after missing a year or some such maybe we will have an inside angle. Of course since we still don't know what it is, who knows.

Obviously not as tragic, but this news has hit me much like the Ricky Berry news and I now find myself in quite the depressed funk after feeling the season was so promising. Someone please share something optimistic ...

Be happy that this was discovered before Chuck keeled over in practice or a game.

Be thankful we actually have an NBA season.

Also, be grateful we all are fortunate enough to actually be on here arguing about a sport, as if basketball means something important is the grande scheme of things. There are many, many people out there in much worse situations than our own.

In professional sports and most team athletics it's simply called, "next man up." Somebody on the Kings has to be the one to step up. Getting even more from DeMarcus Cousins? Seeing a consistent Donte Green? JJ Hickson really bringing it? Jason Thompson rising to all time heights? Who knows, but someone or as a group there has to be a "next man up." Also, hopefully with an assist from GP in the form of bringing frontcourt help via trade or FA signing. Best of luck to Chuck Hayes.
