I grew up during the dunk era. Spud Webb, Dominque Wilkins, Jordan of course, and so a lot of dunk highlights don't really sauce my spaghetti.

My jaw was on the floor after this one.

Sometimes dunks are more for jazzing your team up and the crowd too, but this dunk was exactly what was needed for the play itself. I think this was the moment I became an official Malik Monk Fan.
Welcome to the Club. One of the best comments I have ever read by a fan was that "He plays with such joy!"

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

Even a real Gm thread at the OKC fan forum has 5 pages about this game and some arguing about the lack of defense in todays NBA game.
I think 60% of the 3s were contested. It's just that players hit them. There's guys like Steph, Klay and Trae that take 3s from like 12 feet out from the arc and hit them. You'd have been pulled for taking that shot 15 years ago. Hell I mean the knock on Jimmer was that he only took circus 3s and I don't think he was allowed to take those. Maybe he'd have had lasted a year or two today?

from being the worst defense from a statistics perspective in the final Walton year to being the greatest offense in Brown year one. How quickly things change in one year.
I’ve long believed that any coach in any sport should always play to the strengths of the team or individual, and not just focus on pushing their own strengths onto the team no matter how ill suited it may be. When you have an offense this capable, you play to that strength, you’d be a fool not to. Doesn’t mean you can’t work on defense, but as currently constructed we are never going to be a top defensive team. Brown is right to make offense the priority, we are elite at it. As of this moment, no one in the league today, or ever, is or was better at it.

A lot of coaches make the mistake of sticking with what they know no matter what, good or bad. The good coaches adapt and get better, the bad ones don’t and point fingers. Some organizations target specific player types to fit a certain mold, like San Antonio and the Pop system.

your last sentence states it perfectly. Brown adapted and sitting next to Kerr and being in a winning organization for five years only expanded what he already knew and as a result the Kings offense in the regular season is elite. Now when they get to the Playoffs that will be a whole different beast, the exciting part about it is whether this team is up for the task.

I’m curious what our odds were of winning down 14 in the 4th with 4 minutes to play and being down 6 in both overtimes. Highly highly unlikely chance of winning I am sure, but here we are! As a wise person once said, “that’s why you play the game!”
I always go back to the glory-day Kings losing to the Timberwolves up 12 with 2:08 to play. That p%ssed me off silly. So 4 mins not as impressive, but still pretty good.

The Clippers and Dallas games were Playoff-esque, and the team answered the bell. I like that they have a +500 road-record, that's a fairly big deal.
One thing I've noticed is in close hard fought games, aside from Huerter, the other 4 guards up their defensive ante - and its noticeable.....their steals against the Clippers was gigantic part of their win. You may notice Huerter gets pulled out due to his middling defense.

Anyway, as I've mentioned
With this team, as indicated in their early win-streak into relevance, the bench is extra important I think - it means alot more to their in-game responses how their bench is faring. The Clipper game, I was heartened to see the bench really respond, and contribute substantially to the win.
Having bench players up their game (or address their individual weaknesses) will mean the difference between just making the playoffs or Play-ins and a possible deep run.

What a game. That was even better than the infamous Cousins vs. Meyers Leonard game. The bench was insane.

Monk seriously has Michael Jordan level athleticism. Doesn't quite have the same finishing power in the air but I can't recall a more athletic player in Kings history. Needed every bit of it last night.

Fox was completely gassed in the 2nd OT and his teammates came through. Just improbable comeback after improbable comeback.

Was anyone else yelling "You gotta be f****** kidding me???" after all those Clipper 3 pointers?
Gerald Wallace says hi.

Love me some Monk, delighted at his play last night, and yes, some of his shots and dunks (I saw only highlights) were amazing. However, that's a tall reach, and GW is just one of the players I thought of. Am sure the list must be longer.

the bench scoring is most going to come from Monk, Davis and Lyles. Every now and then Metu will sprinkle in 6-10 points while doing other things but he, Davion and the rest of the crew need to continue doing the little things to hold the fort while the starters get some rest. They may not always score enough, but Brown also mentions finding a group that can get multiple stops out there and that will be huge moving forward.

ESPN had it at 99.7% for the clips.

Go to win probability and find the bottom of the graph - it was 131-145 I believe and that's where I pulled 99.7.

I was yelling everything so was probably yelling this.

It's really good that our Kings are having to go to the absolute limits of their athleticism, conditioning, and overall capabilities, BEFORE the playoffs. The confidence this win produced last night is absolute gold.

I was the biggest Gerald Wallace fan, but he never had the chance in a Kings uni to show it off like Monk did last night - in absolutely epic fashion.

I would love to have such a problem again :)

Don't want to derail this thread, but I'm still salty about Petrie letting him walk. I guess he let him go as a favor, since he wasn't going to be "The man" here behind Peja. I refuse to believe that he couldn't have made some move to retain him, and preferred Peeler over GW in pursuit of a championship. In any case, let's not hijack this thread, which is the celebration of a GREAT victory.
