Chicago gets Brad Miller (theoretically)

Brad Miller and a 2nd round pick and some cash for Joakim Noah and Drew Gooden. The kings get to have season long tryouts for the starting 4 and 5 spot. and Chicago doesn't have to worry about Drew gooden and Noah being irritated that they dont play as much as they need for a max contract extention. Brad Miller is a passing center, which should help D. Rose get his offensive game in order(jumper). Then they dump Brad just in time to be a player in the '10 FA class.

how long is goodens contract? he'd basically be playing for a new contract with a different team.... because i doubt that he would be resigned here.... but that wouldnt be that bad as long as the younger players get some minutes... no one wants to see gooden and moore get all of the minutes.

the Miller to Chicago stuff was talked about extensively a month ago, and never came to anything.

In any case, Noah = yes. Gooden = no. We have a rookie PF who needs those minutes.

In Chicago, Gooden and Noah are sharing PT with Tyrus Thomas, Aaron Gray, and (to the extent he's playing the 4 instead of the 3) Nocioni. In Sacramento they would be sharing PT with Hawes, Moore, Thompson, and Williams. I don't really think that Brad needs to be traded, but we certainly don't want to trade him for two guys who will end up complaining more about their playing time here than they would in Chicago.

I honestly don't think Chicago will trade last years first round pick for Brad Miller. That's a dumb move on their part and John Paxson isn't that stupid. And Brad Miller does not help their chances. They still have to get past Boston and Detroit in the East and Miller will not help their chances. I'm not a Bulls fan or anything, but realistically this won't happen, regardless of the rumors that arose last month.

Brad is weak. He will never be an allstar again. enough said.

You and tyrant have very similar writing styles...

Why would the Kings do this, though? There are many good reasons why Brad should be here THIS YEAR. He may be gone midway, or by the end, but I don't see the need to move him now.

Also, we don't really need Gooden taking minutes away from Thompson, given Theus' propensity to play vets. In reality, you couldn't justify having Gooden sit the bench during a potential contract push.

I say no thanks. Noah? Maybe next year.

On one hand, your promoting Miller in a trade to the Bulls as a good addition to their team, and on the other hand you argue against yourself by degrading Miller. You absolutely make no sense, which probably means you'll have no understanding of what I just said.

The trade Miller movement, is something that needs to happen. The only problem is getting significant value for him. He was acquired for Scott Pollard. And I was being overly optimistic suggesting that he is worth two lottery type players. I think his time in sac. is over. If he went to Chicago or any other eastern conference team, he would be competing for something meaningful, like a playoff spot. In Sacramento, we are a long shot to make the 8th spot in the 09' WC Playoffs. Even without Golden State in the mix, there are 7 locks in the West. Locks like LAL, HOU, SAS, NOH, DAL, DEN, UTA cannot be argued against. SAS, DAL and DEN especially, could be on the dropoff, but SAS still has 2/3 of their franchise players in tact. And Dallas has Jason Kidd. Denver will make the playoffs if they stay healthy. So Sacramento is b/w a rock and a hard place when it comes to playoff spots. Brad Miller doesn't help or hurt. What is interesting is brad millers expiring contract. Seemingly it could help a team that is deperate to be a player in the FA '10 class.

Not time to trade Miller yet.

We have more upside in Miller's contract than having Noah and Gooden.

Miller can still averaged 10 rebounds per game and 4 significant assists per game when well motivated. Actually he averaged 9.4 rpg as compared to Gooden's 8.3 rpg last season. This I think proves Miller can still be the decent back-up center for the developing Hawse for the next 2 more years, afterwhich Miller's $12 M salary will be off the salary book of the Kings together with Abdur Rahim's and Kenny Thomas' salaries.

Wow ! That would be about $26-27 M the Kings can spend for free agency on 2010, which maybe enough to get back Gerard Wallace and Hedo Turkoglu, or get a big name, Chris Webber-type franchise player.

We have enough talents to develop at PF position ( Jason Thompson and Shelden Williams ) Acquiring 2 more PFs who will compete for playing time will slow down their development. Besides, Noah is still untested and we're not even sure if he'll turn out to be better than Jason Thompson, or Shelden Williams. Gooden's game is not even star-quality at the PF position. He might turn out to be another Abdur Rahim, who was supposedly excellent at PF, then turned out to be a fluke.

And if we trade Miller, who will back-up Spencer Hawse at the Center position?

Moore?

Or you going to use the under-sized-for-center Gooden and/or Noah?

For now, I realy think we've done the best with our roster. We just need to have more patience in waiting until the new players get developed. Then comes 2010 - we shop on the free agency market for the remaining pieces and/or a Chris Webber-type franchise player.

Then, be ready to compete for Championship year-after-year again. :D

Sadly, that is still 2-3 years from now.

He was acquired for both Scot Pollard and Hedo Turkoglu. Still, I'm not sure why that's relevant. Pau Gasol was acquired for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and his brother Marc. Do you think he'd fetch more in a trade if the Lakers decided to deal him had he been acquired for Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum instead?

Miller will probably be with us for this entire season. If he is to be traded at all (which would suggest that we don't think we can land a big-time FA in the '10 offseason and therefore don't need that cap space) it will most likely be at the deadline in 2010. Since we would have to sacrifice lots of cap space in the "best offseason ever" we'd have to get something pretty darn good back. I would not be surprised at all to get something equivalent to the Artest haul - a future first and a young kid with promise. In fact, I'd be disappointed to get less.

Now, the question I'd like to be answered is - WHO AMONG THE CURRENT FRANCHISE-CALIBER PLAYERS ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE or AT LEAST NEGOTIABLE COMES 2010?

2010 is a pipe dream. In the history of free agency, very few all-star (let alone franchise) level players have moved teams in free agency. There have been many more teams that have decimated their rosters to clear space only to find little use for that space than there have been teams that landed a big fish.

There will be a bunch of teams with space that summer, and not nearly enough players moving to go around. Most of the guys who on paper could be free agents will have extensions in place well before that summer. The chance that a franchise-caliber player lands here is infinitesimal. We might be able to do something positive with space that summer by trickle-down, but pinning our hopes on landing a superstar in free agency would be foolhardy.

Exactly.

now, personally, I'd do the Miller for Noah/Gooden deal. I have no use for Gooden, and would try to package him w/ Thomas or SAR for a larger expiring (Wally) to tie Reggie's hands. But Miller for Noah, in principle, would be a good move for the kings---If Hawes and JT are the future 5 and 4, Noah is the perfect defense 4/5 to back them both up. If you told me we could trade Miller for a lotto pick in the last two years, and get an expiring to make the contracts match, I'd say you're dreaming. Just because Gooden isn't the greatest fit, doesn't mean you don't do this deal. if anything, it's Chicago that balks first.

Anyway that we could trade Brad Miller for Noah would be a win in my book. I don't think Noah is our "answer" especially because of the fact that JT looks like he has more promise.

I like Gooden (personally)as well and wouldn't mind that deal at all. Gooden is in his last year and if he wanted more then a 2-3 year contract then we would just sign and trade him for a piece that we need.

Chicago has had a year to evaluate J. Noah. And they will take another two, just to be sure. I think Sacramento is missing a Sam Cassel/Gary Payton/Deshawn Stevenson type NBA player. A guy who is a jerk, and is not afraid be admit it. We have a team full of players with Chris Webber's leftover attitude. That means they are nice. Brad Miller and Mikki Moore are our "enforcers", and believe it or not, Miller has the most mental toughness of the two. Gooden is a jerk, and so is Noah. One of the two would help prepare the Kings for war on a nightly basis. Right now, the position of vocal leader is up for grabs, and I seriously don't want B. Miller to think the mic is on him.

The sad thing about Miller is he is still servicable. While he may never hit for 42 points in a game, he will still make you defend, has a killer high post game, and a dribble drive that cannot be ignored completely. I think he lacks lateral quickness and vertical aptitude. His NBA2k9 rating should be 77-80 which aint bad. I think Petrie is going to sit on his hands when it comes to Miller because of future cap availability. It took about 4 years, but i see the light at the end of the tunnel. And 4 years is a really short time. Bravo, mr. Petrie, bravo.

I say dump Miller. I personally only want players on the Kings with NBA2k9 ratings of 82 and above. Unless of course there is some "virtual" intangible that he brings to the table. For example, the glitch in the original Double Dribble game on NES that allowed you to make every three pointer from the bottom corner of the court.
