Of course the Kings signing a player of Vincent's caliber is do-able. Same with Gordon. Whether they "should" have signed him is debatable. The point which you fail to see is that any player that the Kings would obtain in FA or trade that approximates Monk makes the "we can't live without Monk" idea go out the window, thereby making it more palatable to trade Monk, hopefully a long athletic 4/5. THAT is the point. Do you get it now? Monk is replaceable. Monk's points can come from elsewhere. Now do you understand? The "we can't live without Monk" thing because "it's so hard" and "it's not easy" or we can't compete in FA is absurd.
I wouldn't trade Monk for Bobby Porter, but I would trade him for Bobby Portis. 6'4" SGs are much easier to find than 6'11 guys who can rebound, play D and shoot outside. I'd also trade him for Aaron Gordon is the opportunity arose. No doubt there are others out there also. Yeah, but it's hard and it's not easy. I know, I know.
I wouldn't trade Monk for Portis. I'd hope if you're going to deal one of your best four players for a defender that they at least offer rim protection. Monk (who is actually only 6'3") blocks more shots than Portis. Which is doubly bad since Portis isn't very switchable as a defender. 86% of his defensive matchups were spent guarding PFs and Cs and he has a DPM of 0.2 which matches what my eyes told me - he struggles to contain when switched on the perimeter due to a lack of quickness.
I'd have to think about trading Monk for Gordon since he essesntially had to function out of the dunker's spot with Jokic in the high post due to his struggles shooting from outside. But he's the type of big wing defender every team wants. But I think that's a moot point since I don't envision Denver trading Gordon to get Monk. Not only that, you'd have to add $13M in salary to make that deal.
And you continuing to be condescending doesn't make your view any more valid. Neither do your continuing attempts at building a strawman with "quotes" that I never said.
As for competing in free agency - over the 38 years that the franchise has been in Sacramento - including now two stints with a fun, competitive team with well regarded coaches - tell me who is a better free agency signing (not re-signing) than Malik Monk who isn't named Vlade Divac?
You can keep banging that drum and pretending your perception is reality while being unpleasant about the whole thing, but it has yet to happen in nearly 40 years. The three things that will always attract free agents are (1) Being Miami (2) Being L.A. (3) Being a legitimate championship contender, or at least being viewed as such. Last year was the most fun I've had as a Kings fan maybe ever, but they aren't there yet. And until they are, they are a small market franchise with California taxes which both work against them.
