Bring Webber back to Sac please

There was some discussion in another thread about Hawes and JT needing a big man coach and how SAR really looks disconnected from the team and might not be a good fit. I couldn't agree more. I don't know how much longer SAR's contract runs but if I were the Maloofs I would be all over bringing Chris Webber back to Sacramento as an assistant coach/big man coach. I've been watching Chris quite a bit on NBA TV and I think he has matured tremendously and understands the game very well. I think he would be a charasmatic and dynamic assistant coach that all the players would respect. It would get the fans excited too.

I think that Hawes and Thompson could really benefit from Webber coaching them. They both have the ability to be excellent passers and good face up shooters. Webber was a master in both of those categories. I know Chris had expressed some desire to come back in some capacity. I think this is a no brainer. I'm not sure what the Maloofs are waiting on.

I'm just not sure the Maloofs are all that interested. If they were, they could have contacted Vlade or Webber a long time ago and made it publicly known. I can't imagine them paying a whole lot more for his services than NBA TV.

That being said, If he expressed an interest in being an assistant - specifically for the Kings - in a public forum, the Maloofs would probably be obliged to at least explore the possibility. Can't really say it is likely to happen though.

Guys like Webber and Divac aren't going to come back to the NBA as big man coaches. They've got way too many other irons in the fire. I know we as Kings fans would absolutely love to see them on the sidelines once again but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen...

Now if it involved an appearance once in a great while to help further the arena cause or maybe even a promo to get fans interested in this new young team, maybe.

What you would give him only becomes relevant if he's interested in what you're trying to get him to do. I don't think there's that much interest on his side, nor would I expect there to be.

I'm as big a Webber fan as any on this board, but I think people sometimes look at these types of suggestions from only the side that fulfills one of our own needs/wishes.

While that is far from a guarantee, I am hopefull the potential is there for Vlade to help out down the road.

I also remember that interview. So I would say it remains a distant possiblilty. As far as Webber goes. I Agree that he's not a behind the scenes type of guy. Also, players that were truely great players seldom make good coaches. They have a hard time understanding why its so hard for a player to do what came so easy for them. When you look around the league at the head coaches and assistant coaches, most were journeymen players. A lot of them struggled and fought hard just to stay in the NBA. As a result they have a better understanding of what it takes for a player to make it in the NBA. There are exceptions of course, but they're rare.

I said this before, I would love to see Chris or Vlade work with this team, especially with the bigs. With that being said, it doesn’t seem that the Kings are interested in hiring Chris, and Vlade (when he was asked) said it wasn’t the right time…But I really think we need a really good big mans coach, simply because I don’t think SAR is the best option (not to disrespect SAR). Hopefully, Vlade will be interested in helping our young bigs or at least I like to see him work with them during the offseason. I think it could really help out both, Jason and Spencer.

I have nothing but respect for Vlade Divac. Hence the user name that was shortened from Vladefan21 after Vlade left the Kings. But, having said that, I don't think Vlade was doing anything more than being polite when he responded to Grant. Vlade is pretty busy as an advisor to the Serbian government on humanitarian issues, and I think that means a lot more to him than anything the Maloofs could offer him.

As far as when his son comes to the US to play college ball, there's no guarantee he'll play anywhere close to the West Coast, let alone California.

I would truly love to see Vlade working with our young bigs, but I just don't see it as anything more than a remote possibility being blown out of proportion because Grant likes to put people in awkward situations by asking questions that are difficult to answer.

What if Vlade would have said, "Well, no Grant. I don't see myself doing that because I've got a lot of other things I'm doing"? There are people who would have jumped on that as some kind of "disrespect" by the kind-hearted Divac, much as they did when he went to LA to finish out his career.

There are a number of bigs out there who could conceivably become effective coaches for our front court. I just don't honestly see either Webber or Divac among them.

He's doing work for NBA TV and TNT and I get the impression he's enjoying that side of the game.

If Hawes became as good as Webber was shooting jumpers and passing we would all be estatic. Right now watching him be average in all categories is frustrating. Of course, I'd love for him to focus on his post game and actually play like a 7 footer but that may not be in the cards for him.

One of the biggest differences between Spencer and Chris is that Chris had a swagger about him. Spencer is a mental midget right now. As long as he continues to pout and not take the initiative to get better then he will continue down the path he is on. If he can grow up, take responsibility, and do something about it then he may be an excellent player some day.

I'm not sure that we have the type of big men that a specialist big man coach would be interested in joining a team for. Patrick Ewing had Yao then Dwight. Kareem has Andrew Bynum. Would Webb really want to coach Thompson or Hawes?
