Funny how you like Chandler and Brand, happens that Chandler and our very own Skinner got traded to the Bulls for....yes Brand. So that would be weird to have Chandler and Skinner back together in CA from that trade.

Draft rights traded by the Clippers with Brian Skinner to the Bulls for Elton Brand on 6/27/01.

ok, so, here are some of the PFs that the Kings could realistically puruse. So, sorry everyone, you won't see Brand and KG on this list, because the Kings aren't getting them in this lifetime.

1. Tyson Chandler. Basically unrealistic, but oh so much potential. It would probably take at least Peja to make it work, and even so it's highly unlikely that the Bulls won't keep him. But should it happen, he's a terrific defender and a possible star. Possible being the key word.

2. Antoine Walker. I would not be all that surprised if he were the starting PF for the Kings next year. Everyone knows his assets and liabilities, and I don't think anyone would be particularly thrilled to see him in a Kings uniform. At the same time, how often do you get a player of his stature, with his abilities for the MLE? On the other hand, those defensive woes just got a lot worse.

3. Reggie Evans. I don't know why you all like him so much. He can rebound. Yes. But he sucks at EVERYTHING else, including defense and shotblocking, not to mention very simple things like putting the ball in the basket. He's only 6'8". He commits stupid fouls. Off the bench? Maybe. As a starting PF? Not for the Kings.

4. Steven Hunter. He can shotblock. He's athletic. And he doesn't really know how to play the game of basketball all that well. I'd take him over Evans though.

5. Drew Gooden. Reportedly on the trading block. He can score, he can rebound. He can't pass. His defense sucks. He's selfish. Blech.

6. P.J. Brown. Also reportedly on the trading block. I'm intrigued by this. He's 35, but he's as tough as they come, he's a hard worker, great defender, will give you a solid 10 and 10 every night. A real team player. If the Kings could swing a deal with the Hornets I'd be pleased, but I don't know who they have that the Hornets would want.

7. Al Harrington. Is he a 3? Is he a 4? No one knows. Lots of potential, and also entering the final year of his deal. An intriguing possibility, but doesn't really make the Kings better defensively.

Anyone I'm forgetting at this point?

It's fun to talk about getting Chandler and Brand and all, but it's going to be really tough for the Kings to upgrade at the 4.

I still think we should sign Walker for the MLE, despite the fact that everyone is against it. I'll say it again: we can't get the big name PF this offseason to win it all with. If we get Walker, we can make him fit in the system and turn him into a stud. It will all be a facade and will crumple against good teams, but it will be convincing. We can turn around and ship off Walker when his stock is high and get some real players with good skills, all the fundamentals, and build a real contender. Or maybe Toine can be the real deal and actually get us somewhere. But I like taking the risk on him, especially when he is cheap, and it's not like a player can't be unloaded a year later anyway. At this point, I don't like our chances of getting anyone else. Until someone proposes a realistic scenario of getting us somewhere otherwise (this discussion has been going on for more than 3 weeks and I haven't heard any yet) I will remain by my argument that signing Walker is our best, most pragmatic option at this juncture.

I seriously think we should be trying to do BOTH a trade and the MLE in order to bring in TWO guys and change the whole frontcourt flavor. I like the Griffin idea if he is out there, Evans would give us a boost where we need it, Chandler would be great but would take the trade of a core member. And then the whole league is out there as far as trades for non-FAs. But we aren't ONE big man away from fixing our issues. We are two or more. I consider Skinner a decent reliable backup 4, even if it puts Geoff/Rick's teeth on edge to have somebody on the team without a jumper. Assuming we keep Brad, and keep him at center, that leaves a backup center and a starting PF. Both should play defense.

I know I've suggested this before, but if we were somehow able to do something like Peja/Corliss for Chandler and Nocioni, signed Griffin, and slid Thomas down to SF, all of a sudden we could have a frontcourt that looked like:

C - Brad
PF - Chandler
SF - Thomas
SF/PF/C - Griffin
PF/C - Skinner
SF - Nocioni

And I'm doing back flips.

That said I continue to have real doubts Geoff would trade Peja for God himself, so I'm not holding my breath. But that frontcourt is nasty.
man, you are obsessed with defense (understandable after last season) but this front court is too much....pure muscle, 0% talent.....team like this need another coach....and doesn't mean automatically great defensive team....to play good team defense you need players that are coachable, athletic and more important with high bball IQ......on this front court I only see athleticism nothing else

Yeah that would be a great team to put around King James, but the Kings, its just too much of one thing that takes away from another.

I agree with that the Kings need TWO more big guys who play PF or C. Out of the options given I think Eddie Griffin and Steven Hunter are worth a try since they won't cost a whole lot in comparison to someone like Chandler.

Uh...

Brad/Thomas/Nocioni/Griffin can score.

Thomas and Corliss for PJ Brown and Speedy Claxton

new orleans is really going no where fast... PJ Brown is 35 years old and would be better served playing for a contending team, like the kings.... new orleans is overloaded at PG with drafting chris paul and probably resigning dan dickau... the hornets get a younger starter in thomas and a reliable backup at the 3/4 with corliss... the kings would get a hard nosed, defensive player in PJ Brown to play the PF spot for 2 years... he is a steady 10pts/10reb per game... the kings also get their backupoint guard... the only thing would be that PJ Brown is old and may not have very much left in the tank... he would be a stop gap (1 or 2 year solution)....

Right now our roster consist of 9 players. the minimum is 14. So you can pencil in Ronnie Price for sure now and Erik Daniels for number 13 and 14. its those other 3 positions that is going to make the difference. I say if we make no trades and only go with Free Agents. We could easily get Eddie House,(or some other cheap backup), Matt Barnes, and Eddie Griffin.

bibby/House/Price
wells/martin/Garcia/Barnes
Peja/Corlis/Barnes/Garcia
Griffin/KT/Skinner/Daniels
Brad/Skinner/?

WE REALLY need to trade Corlis with this line up for a decent backup Center and then bring up another young center to ride with Price and Daniels at the end of the bench maybe a rookie somebody don't sign because they are already very deep at the 4-5

we cant rip off utah twice in one off season.....
Nobody ripped off Utah. They got exactly what they wanted and I think it was a great deal from their standpoint.

This is about the fifth or sixth thread where I've read about the idea of making deals that would end up with Kenny Thomas at the SF spot. I can't ever imagine that happening. I think KT would be an unmitigated disaster at the 3.

Petrie would never trade Peja for Magloire. He'd do it for Artest/Pierce/Marion or involved in a deal for a big name big guy.

7. Al Harrington. Is he a 3? Is he a 4? No one knows. Lots of potential, and also entering the final year of his deal. An intriguing possibility, but doesn't really make the Kings better offensively. - He can score enough, the Kings don't really need a lot of offense unless 2 of the core are traded away, which isn't going down. I'd take Harrington at the four, same for Evans/Nene/Griffin. Al is on the trading block too.

I agree on getting Daniels for a bench spot, that article on him a couple weeks ago, and his SL play has kinda opened my eyes to him.

Harrington at the 4 is another one of those guys who solves nothing. Call him a 4 and he's soft, a poor rebounder, and a non-entity as an interior defender. He's really kind of in that JuWann Howard class of tweeners.

Yeah, I agree. At the same time, he's an expiring contract and could help a tad on the inside and back up at the 3. I'd make a Corliss/Harrington trade because he does what Corliss does only better, and I'd throw in Garcia if Atlanta was interested (I'm guessing not interested). But I wouldn't give up KT, Kevin Martin or Skinner to get him.

Oops, in my Harrington post I meant he doesn't make the Kings better DEFENSIVELY. He would make them better offensively.

OK, Brick, I think you might be rooting for the wrong team. Just because the Bulls made it to the 1st round of playoffs in the east (and got spanked by the wizards, i might add) doesn't mean that we should go for Sacramento for Chicago trade.

Perhaps I misread above -- if the proposal was somehow to get Harrington for Corliss, well yeah, you do that any day and twice on Sundays just on talent alone. But I wouldn't want to then turn around and start him at the 4, would much prefer him as a 6th man 4/3 combo backup, but as I recall one of the reason he left Indy was because he wanted to go start somewhere.

Just because your boy was involved in the trade doesn't make it a team swap Sloter. As I recall it was 2 Kings for 2 Bulls. By that reasoning then right now we are the Sacramento 76ers because, oh my!, we traded for three of them.

I think we're on the same page, I was just laying out a scenario in which I'd bring Harrington over (i.e. a "duh" trade). Like you I'm skeptical about bringing in Harrington to start, I think in the Williamson trade scenario KT would still be the starting PF and Harrington is the 6th Man. He probably wouldn't be happy about coming off the bench, and our defense would be, well, sad. So I don't quite see Harrington as a King.

I'm glad Kenny picked up some more votes since I voted. I don't see a single name on this list who I think represents a dramatic move in the right direction. Nothing short of a Peja and/or Brad trade for a serious tough-guy big is going to win me over.

I feel the team we have right this minute is exactly one all star big away from what we used to have. There is no name listed on the poll who is an all star big (unless by by big you mean "fat" in which case roly poly pudgy cheeks Walker is the best bet of the bunch).

Ah, okay.

I just liked what I saw of him last year. Didn't pay attention to PF or not.

If we're going to include one of the young guys in a deal, it's gonna be Martin. Antoine Walker isn't really the right guy for the Kings, we don't need another three-point shooter, on top of that, he's a crappy FT shooter and an inconsistent finisher. Evans or Griffin > Walker by far for the Kings. Not like those two aren't gonna be working on their game. Kenny is too small to be the starting PF all-season, and won't be a back-up, especially with his deal. He'll surely be used in a trade.

I agree, unless something really crazy happens or the Kings sign Antoine Walker, Kenny Thomas will be our power forward next year. At most the Kings will sign a capable backup with the MLE, and I can't see another player available via trade for the Kings without trading the core.

I think it's pretty clear why the Kings were pursuing Shareef Abdur-Rahim so hard. There's a drastic, drastic drop off after him in the free agency market. None of the power forwards realistically available (Evans, Hunter) are going to start ahead of Kenny Thomas. You don't play one dimensional role players (rebounding and shotblocking, respectively) ahead of multitalented players in the Kings' system.

And people can say "trade one of the core" all you want, but I seriously doubt an All-Star caliber PF is coming our way for Peja. We can all dream about Brand and Chandler all we want, but I think it's time to get used to Kenny Thomas.

P.S. I really think SAR going to New Jersey was the difference between the Kings contending in 2005-2006 vs. longshots. Come on, Petrie, work that magic!

Thomas will be used in a trade. I guarantee it. He's one of the best pieces we have right now next to Martin/Skinner/Songaila. Though I don't see Skinner leaving unless it's in a big trade. Petrie has said many times we need to get bigger up front and in the paint. Obviously hinting at the PF position. Petrie saw the playoffs, and stated this after them, and weeks after them. He also knows about the Western PFs. That's all we need to know about Thomas and him being on the team.

You do start overall size w/ skill over undersized with skill. Who's to say we don't get Griffin either.

SAR is good, but he wasn't quite what the Kings need either, to a lesser degree than the guy below though...

Walker won't be a King, it'll be a fact. ;)

There is also trades...
