Bodiroga to play for Kings???

I always thought the assist rule in basketball was the same for every league. No wonder his assist # is much lower than I expected.

rules are definitely different

There is not one player currenly in the NBA today that is more clutch then he is. He is just amazing. I wish you had a chance to watch him VF21 because you would appreciate his game and desire to win.

That is not true. There is only one most clutched player in the world and he wears the number 8 on back of his jersey

no dribble. You get an assist if player gets a lay up or a dunk.

I might be wrong here if they changed somethintg in the last year but other than that...

You're not wrong. You cannot get assist if the scorer had to "make a move" (i.e. dribble).

Fierce competitor though which is really what set him apart -- if you could have just played Dr. Frankenstein and stitched Dejan's head onto Peja's body you really WOULD have Larry Bird. If he COULD adapt his game, he could help. But its just a big ??? for an aging player.

I was tip-toeing around this but Brick just had to spell it all out. Yes, if Pedja was more like Dejan we would be NBA champs by now. That is not a slam on Pedja, just a honest appraisal of Dejan.

Anyway, Brick, just an FYI: We know that Bodiroga is slow because it looks like a slow-mo when he is abusing his defender. It seems that for him speed (his own or speed of the game) is simply not an issue.

By the way, anyone who has NBA TV/League Pass: NBA TV is showing Euroleague games every Weekend before during the day. Just in case you wanted to follow up on Bodiroga or the next Vlade/Dirk/Pau/Pedja.

There is a difference: Dejan wins 1 to 3 titles a year through shear force of his will. Kobe has all the ability that Dejan can only dream about, and all that he does is dominate the ball - not the game.

Nicely said, Kobe has a ton of talent, but its a waste. Bodiroga got to the top be going to the gym for 8 hours everyday and shooting thousands of shots, working on his dribbling, defence, etc. Kobe has all this talent, but has an enormous ego and a "Me in Team" attitude. Dejan is the complete opposite. Fantastic skill, team first, leader and strong work ethic. Which one would you rather have on your team? I say Bodiroga.

They used to be much more similar. Over the years, NBA has "relaxed" the rules over and over again in the interest of expanding the appeal of the game. NBA simply would never become this big if it apealed only to basketball nuts and puritans. In Europe (as you know) we have good old nationalism or age old intra-city rivalries to keep interest at a very high level.

Actualyl I don't think the NBa assist rule has changed in 20 yrs at least. Can't speak to the olden days.

Bodiroga to play in the NBA roumers have been an anual apearance since the Kings drafted him and none have ever amounted to anything, I see no reason to streach a thread wiht no link out this long. Do the Kings need another 6'7" forward? Can Dejan paly the 2 in the NBA, any one realy ready to trade Pedaj to make room or put Pedja on the bench to open up a start? Yeah I did not think so. Some one wants to post a link from a credible source I'll be glad to discuss in greater detail the if's and shoulds arround adding Dejan to the Kings roster but for now I'll just say... there is a better chance of the kings trading for KG in the off season.

There you go! See, I was right.

According to Celt, we're going to trade Peja for KG to make room for Dejan.

You heard it here first!!

Then I say you are crazy. I would take Kobe over Dejan anyday of the week and I think any GM would too.

Very interesting. We started with story about Dejan and finished with assists rules :D
Anyway,as I said,Dejan told me that he is not interesting to go to the NBA now,so "that's all I have to say about that" :D
And about his position, well in Serbian national team he plays everything except C.He got child last summer, and he said that he want to retire from the national team this summer on the European Championship.
I agree that this is not time for him to come to Kings and I would prefere for him to stay european legend!

I thought an assist made if a player scores with 3 or less dribbles after the pass...but I am certainly no expert.
Not in Europe mate.

Piksi is right. In Europe assist is only counted if you get a pay up or a dunk without dribbing. A major reason why so many players in europe have low assist counts compared to those in the NBA.

As far as Bodiroga is concerned, they don't call him a "White Magic" for nothing. An exceptional player who never was quick but had the smarts to outplay any opponent he comes accross. Bodiroga is one of the all time greats in european basketball and I have no doubt he could be successfull if he came to the NBA.

While his best is past him he is still the best player in europe and by quite a margin. The man invented the term "clutch" and is one of the most fundamentally sound players you will ever come accross. I think it was Lamar Odom that said last year that Bodiroga would school a lot of NBA players and he would love to see him come over. People here think that he is over the hill but he still has some good basketball left in him. VF21 you say that he is too old to come to the NBA and someone else mentioned that french guy that played for the Mavs. Let me just say that French bloke is not good enough to polish Boridoga's shoes let alone be mentioned in the same snetence with Dejan. If you going to compare Dejan to anybody in term of coming over to the NBA late it Arvydas Sabonis.

Having said that, I would be very surprised if Bodiroga came over to the NBA. He has said many times that NBA is not an attraction to him and he would most likely finish his career in Europe where he is one of the all time greats. He does say "Never say never" but I would be very surprised if he does make the move.

Mi imamo našeg boga ime mu je Bodiroga!!!!!! :D

Bodiroga is greath, but he never be in NBA,coz simply he dont want to came.Real pity.
Haveing Bodiroga 99,2000... in Kings would be bring ring to Town,he is man-title.But now it's too late.

Peja, it is not unusual around her to stray way off the original path. It happens all the time. :p

Is Dejan your biological brother, or were you using "brother" as a figure of speech? Well, either way, I believe that you know him well. Tell him that many Kings fans are sorry that he never came over and helped the Kings win some championships. I, for one, believe that we (with him and other talent we had) would have 2-3 championship rings by now.

Well, he chose a different route to basketball greatness. I know that some people believe that unless you play in the NBA you cannot be a legitimate great. I, on the other hand, think that some people can trancend that idea. Dejan is a basketball god in Europe for a reason. He earned all the accolades that he received. Tell him, that whatever the future holds for him, KingsFans.com wishes him well.

Since I heard the comment to the effect of what I was trying to describe from Hubie Brown, I have to assume that it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. ;)

Well,he is son of my uncle, here we say brother from uncle and I suppose that you call it cousin?
I am very close with him and I'll tell him your best wishes for sure!
;)

I agree Peja, its like Michael Jordan going to Europe just before retirement. Its better to just stay put and live where your roots began. Its just the destiny of the Kings to miss out. Hopefully Peja can pan out in the playoffs. We sorely need last seasons numbers. Getting married and having a baby didn't play out so well for him I believe. Just more distractions, but thats probably my excuse for him. He needs to shake off any problems he has and get us at least to the finals.
