Bobcats/Kings

Just for fun....:)

G. Wallace ($5.5) most likely to opt out this season
M. Ely ($3.3 exp)
and...maybe a future 1st OR both teams swap this year pick?

for

R. Artest
K. Thomas

Charlotte is well under the cap, so salaries doesnt need to match.

Why for CHA? Wallace will very likely to opt out. Instead of losing him for nothing, they get ARTEST! but they have to swallow KT's contract.

Why for SAC? IF it's true that Artest is unhappy and ruining team chemistry, and just in case he blow up. They replace him with Gerald Wallace who is also a GREAT defender. Wallace is quicker, more athletic, and only 24 yrs old. Downgrade is he might not be as effective in the post on both ends as Artest. But the upgrade is he's a SHOT BLOCKER! Average 2.1 blks & 2.4 stls last season. Kings also dump KT's contract and his attitude. They get a big, a REAL big PF. Also, switching KT's contract with Ely's exp, they should have even more cap space to play with.

Bobcats don't want Artest or Thomas. 1) They're building on youth, and 2) they don't want to pay anybody what Artest (or even Thomas) is getting paid right now. Besides, I don't really think they want Artest anywhere near Okafor or Felton.

I'm pretty sure that Wallace doesn't want to come back here, and I wouldn't blame him. And, let me just restate that there's no way in the world Charlotte would take on that much salary; there's a reason why they're so far under the cap...

I don't think that trade will work either, but if Wallace is traded back to Sac, he'll just have to be professional about it and do his job. He's making millions of dollars to play basketball. He's not educating kids, fighting crime, or saving lives. None of these guys are. Webber didn't want to go to Sac, but look how that turned out. Multimillionaire athletes who refuse to go to certain teams after they're traded or drafted are immature, spoiled, and black eyes to their sport. This is why I'll always have no respect for guys like John Elway, Eli Manning, Kenny Anderson, Steve Francis, J.D. Drew, and even Jim Jackson for refusing to join the Hornets when he was traded there. Chris Webber did this to a certain extent when he was dealt to Sac, but he eventually accepted the trade, gave it a chance, and it turned out to be the best experience of his pro career.

Why wouldn't he want to come back, he seemed like a small town sort of player who was happy enough to be here. We tried to win now with vets but no reason for him to take it personal, he ended up in a much better situation by being one of the frontmen for a young team. He's going to sign a very nice contract because of it, I'm sure. I'd want him back of course, we always liked Gerald here. Great throwdowns, hilarious interviews for after the game when I'm beery. He's a win-win.

But, some team is going to offer him a lot of dollars so its going to take what, maybe 10 million per year for 6 years to get that done....not really worth it.

Some people think Gerald Wallace was disrespected here in Sacramento, rumpled.

There are two sides to every story. Wallace had a questionable work ethic while he was here. It was only after he left that he actually started to grow up and become the player he is today, although I'm still not convinced he's all THAT great.

And Wallace doesn't solve any of our problems.

Besides that, there is NO reason for Charlotte to even think about picking up the phone on a trade like this. None...

Actually, Okafor becomes a free agent in 2008. While I would expect Bobcats to sign him to an extension this year, given their stingy history, as also the fact that they shall likely get an excellent big man again in the draft this year, they just might decide not to resign him (he is sure to command a high price in the market).

In such a scenario, they shall likely look for S&T for some young stud and picks. Wonder if we can put together an exciting enough package to interest them.

You misunderstand me; Gerald Wallace is probably my favorite player in the NBA, and I'd love it if he were playing in a Kings uniform... but he's not coming back via a trade with Charlotte, because there's no trade we can make with them that doesn't involve them taking on salary, and they're not going to take on salary. Furthermore, if I were Wallace, I wouldn't want to come back.

He started out slow, but he's working his way into a good season; his stats are up across the board from November to December, most notably scoring (13.5 in December vs 10.8 in November), FG% (48.1 in vs 42.0), steals (2.0 vs 1.4) and blocks (.92 vs .33). By the All-Star Break, Gerald will be fine.

And no, Gerald is not the kind of shot blocker we need, but it's not because he only blocks shots on the perimeter. It's because Gerald is a weak-side shot blocker (like Josh Smith) and we need a strong-side shot blocker (like Emeka Okafor).
