Blake Griffin

Kingster

Hall of Famer
If this guy is the best player in draft according to the "experts", then it's a very bad draft. I'm not impressed with him. Seems like a Sheldon Williams to me. Not a defensive presence, not terribly athletic. He does have good hands. Doesn't have an outside shot. He looks like he would make a good tight end in football though...

He's more athletic than Shelden, but overall I really don't see him as a franchise type of player. He's not that tall, he's a terrible defender, and a lot of the things he's good at in college aren't going to translate to the NBA. Definitely a weak draft. At the same time, he is pretty skilled offensively and has the athleticism to play in the NBA. I think he's more Kenyon Martin than Boozer though.

this is the draft of the PG's!!! so many talented PG's are coming out we are going PG with our fist pick for sure... plus its a NEED so it all works out

Lots of B caliber PG's in my opinion...Guys good enough to start but there's no Rose's, Paul's, Williams' or even Harris' in this draft. More like Ford's, Nelson's and Rondo caliber PG's IMO.

How many times have you seen him play? He's one of those guys that you have to see quite a few times to get a read on. He'll look like he's moving in slow motion and not doing much, and all of sudden he'll crank it up a couple of notches and you'll wonder where that came form.

He's deceptively athletic. He'll look like he's not much of a jumper and out of nowhere he'll fly in and block a shot and his shoulder will be even with the rim. I think he's one of those players that only uses the amount of quickness and leaping ability thats necessary to get the job done.

I will admit that the first time I saw him play last year, I wasn't impressed with him. But as the year went on the more I liked him. As far as his size, we'll just have to wait until the pre-draft camp. He's listed at 6'9" on some boards and 6'10" on others. That probably means he's close to 6'9" without shoes and 6'10" with shoes. Anyway, its stupid to call him undersized when we really don't know.

He's not much like Shelden. Blake is much, much more athletic and more of a high energy guy. Shelden was the two-time NDPOY while Blake doesn't realize that defense needs to be played. Shelden was more of a true leader in college while Blake isn't really anything more than a shouter and pouter when things don't go his way. Their common thread is that they're undersized black centers from Oklahoma who can't shoot outside of 10 feet.

That said, I like Blake a HECK of a lot more than I like Shelden. There's still time for Blake's game to grow. Shelden? Eh, not so much. He might as well call himself a house husband and let wifey bring home the bacon. :D

And not to sound like a broken record, but at this point, we should all be able to agree that wingspan is nearly as important as height anyway. Shelden is undersized, has a short wingspan, and mediocre hands. If Griffin has poor measurements, that would raise red flags.

No argument here.

I saw him play once. That was enough, unless he was terribly ill. Whether it's Pearce, Nowitsky, Rose, Hawes, or whomever, usually once is all I need to know whether they can have star power in the NBA, and I just don't see it. I saw a lot more from #21 today on North Carolina than I did from Griffin.

Once? Com'n dude. That's ridiculous. You never judge any one player off of ONE game.

Well, if this is the only game you've seen him play then you probably just saw the worst game he's played his entire career thusfar. This guy is the real deal, trust me.

Yeah? I saw Vince Carter play once, the other day against the Raptors. He was 0-12 thru the first 3 quarters. He's never gonna make it in this league

...Griffin is human, he's allowed to play bad sometimes. He's the real deal IMO. At least from what I've seen (which actually isn't a whole lot to be honest)

P.S. I don't like Carter, just proving a point.

I would have to agree with you. I am about to officially join the "Draft Jennings" bandwagon.

The draft is horrible. This was a crappy year to suck. You never know when someone can become a star, but so far the predictions aren't making this year look very good.

Funny you mentioned that, because when I looked at his short arms I was reminded of Peja.

I'll watch him once more, but now he has to be incredibly impressive in order to erase his mediocrity from my eyes.

I rest my case.

I'm glad you're just a fan and not one of the Kings scouts.

Well, if I were a Kings scout we would have drafted either Pearce or Nowitsky instead of Jason Williams. I saw both of them *once*. When it comes to "star" players, first impressions are extraordinarily important in my book. You don't want to overthink. When it comes to so-so guys, first impressions are much less important. A guy either has star quality, or he doesn't, and if you don't immediately see it, as a rule he doesn't.

How did you get to see Nowitzki play when he was in Europe? And it's Pierce, not Pearce.

Besides, I strongly, strongly disagree with you. Picking (or not picking) a player after seeing just one game is completely ludicrous.

Do not even ATTEMPT to tell me you saw star potential in Nowitzki in his year before the draft! No one saw that coming! Especially after having seen just one game.

I saw Nowitsky play in the McDonald's High School All-America game. He was allowed to play in the game. Don't ask me why, I don't know. But for a 7-footer he was very mobile, could handle the ball, slashed repeatedly to the basket, showed toughness, could shoot free throws. That's why I thought he was a player. And by the way, I didn't have the impression of a great outside shooter at that point. That was gravy. And to top it off, I called up KHTK and said that's the guy I wanted! So Dime Dropper, you're talking to someone who does know basketball and does know what he's talking about. Have I been wrong before? Certainly. But I've been right a heckuva lot more often than wrong when it comes to talent. And as for PEArce, I saw him ONCE playing against UCLA. And what I saw was an incredibly fluid athlete with quickness and a shot. Just once, baby!

He seems like a David Lee to me at this point. He doesn't have as strong of a base as Boozer does nor does he have the post game of Boozer. Can he develop this? Sure, but I'm leaning towards taking a guard in this draft, that's where the strength is.
