Artest trade stuff HERE!! (merged)

Bonzi for Artest straight up works contractually and is "pre-approved" by JOneil. Gives them the player capable of playing defense they want who's partially overcome his "psych" image while here. For us "psych-wise" we'd be going from the frying pan to the fire with a similar type player as Bonzi but with 3 years left on his contract and not have to negotiate with Bonzi for a new one. You pay your money and take your chances.
I agree completely. I really like how Bonzi played this season, but there's something about perennial-head-case-having-career-season-in-contract-year that doesn't sit well with me. Add in the fact that he's already 29, relies a great deal on his athleticism and doesn't have a lot of secondary skills (passing, ball-handling, shooting) to fall back on once he loses a step, and I'd be extremely nervous signing him to a long term deal. Plus there's the risk of losing him for nothing.

Saw this over on the Realgm.com Kings board from a reliable poster on the Pacers forum:

BREAKING NEWS- NO JOKE

The Clippers TV guys just said the Kings PR crew has been ordered by the Kings to stay late tonight- and it involves Artest. Apparently they're hearing a lot of buzz that Artest could be traded to Sacramento as early as tonight.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably just a crap rumor but I don't really know what to think. Pacer fans are scared they're just getting Peja.

Did you see this on Clippers TV, or did this poster see it on Clippers TV, or is it on RealGm.com

I'm having trouble figuring out who saw what?

Clippers TV people said it during a Clippers game. I have checked other boards and the rumor seems to be spreading pretty fast.

I wonder how true it is.

Well, you can blame me- I'm the one that started it.

I did hear it, and so did someone else on basketbalboards.net, from what I could find.

The problem is, exactly how many other people besides me were watching the Clippers TV feed while the Clips were down 20?

The rumor IS legit, though. I came here hoping you guys knew more about it.

So do you think it's going to happen or not? Like what were the guy's exact words?

I couldn't watch any more of the game. I'm watching Eddie House light up the Suns.

Well, they made it sound like artest was going to get traded as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.

If the Kings PR staff WAS kept overnight as they reported (wish someone would confirm/deny that), that lends credibility to the idea that there really is a deal close to being made.

A lot of other people are coming out and saying they saw it too. How would the Clippers people know out of everybody I don't buy it.

I do remember hearing about a Bonzi/Kevin Martin deal for Artest. I hope its isn't that if its true.

Lawler and Mike Smith have been around a while, and they likely have a lot of NBA sources in California.

Why they'd report something that's false I wouldnt know. They arent the type of people to throw stuff out there.

They really believed Ron was going to the Kings, because they discussed the Clippers "missing out" on Ron.

Maybe the guys broadcasting the Clippers game said it because they were bored?

Just because someone in LA said it, doesn't necessarily mean it's true...and who knows? It might just be another smokescreen to cover the CLIPPERS themselves actually doing the Maggette deal.

;)

Ah, yes. That sounds like a possibility too.

I hope not.

ESPN tonight was saying that Donnie is now even considering moving Artest to other eastern teams, so who knows?

I just wish he would go SOMEWHERE so this drama could be over. It was tedious when it was Shaq deciding the future and it's more than tedious now. There are a lot of things happening in the league that I think are infinitely more important than trying to second guess Donnie and Larry. I have to wonder if they're running a secret pool and just waiting for the right date and time to come up.

I feel your pain. Its actually been kind of quiet on the Artest front the last week or so, and I liked it. I actually got to watch some basketball without Ron Artests' name coming up 50 times.

It would be hilarious if we got ron artest just for the reason that some people would be like NOOOOOOO WE GOT RON!

Anyways yeah I hope he's traded... to us. And if not us, a team that's already a contender. Not a GS or LAC.

Hilarious? Whatever...

IF Ron Artest comes to the Kings, the drama comes with him ... and the spotlight ... and the constant media scrutiny, etc. That's just something else this team would have to contend with, as if they didn't have enough problems already.

Be careful what you wish for...

I'll wish for it. I've been wishing for it since the day I heard he wanted to be traded. Ron is an instant difference maker for whatever team he joins. If it is actually for Peja, both of my wishes have come true. Sacramento is notorious for smoothing over the bad apples of the league. Ron is the baddest apple the tree has ever produced, wonder if they can settle him down. Here's to hoping for it.

IF he is a King then I will support him. We'll see.

I still have my objections, not much to do with what he can/can't do on the court, but just a lot of question marks.

Fine, hope for it. But please would one of you Artest proponents at least ADMIT that he brings baggage and it's not going to be a picnic in the park if he does come here?

I'll grant you that he would definitely shake things up as far as the current team dynamics go. Better? Worse? There is NO way on earth to tell right now. Instant difference maker? Oh yeah...look at all the difference he made for the Pacers. Took them right out of top contention with one move and then, the next year, managed to alienate pretty much an entire fan base with his knife to their backs.

Yeah, he's a difference maker all right...

On the court he has always impressed me but I'm not going to be dancing in the streets if he comes here. IF it was to happen, he'd have a lot to prove to us long-time Kings fans.

Well let's just hope that if he comes here he can settle down:). He is a superstar calibre player, DPOY and a guy capable of scoring 20-25 a game. He's literally a mismatch on anybody. When they were playing NJ the nets tried to guard him with Mark Jackson. So what did ron do? He stayed out in 20 feet and was able to get jumpshots to hit( I remember some pacer fans saying this before he asked for his trade). When he's against a smaller player he can post them up. He can dribble the ball better than peja too. He's DEFINATELY an impact player, if we could just get him to not go crazy we'd be fine. If he did go crazy we could end up screwed though, but than again if we let peja walk we're screwed anyways.

I would love to have talent like Ron's. But, I am in no way looking forward to all the hoopla (and most of it negative) that surrounds this guy.

And as far as "smoothing over the bad apples," honey, you ain't seen nothing yet. This guy is not a "bad apple" like we are used to dealing with. He is absolutely over the top. He is flat out nuts.

Think about that. Then, think about it some more.

That is one helluva proviso to have attached to a player. KT has been reported to throw tizzy fits about being a starter. That's level 1 problem. What Artest has done is about level 10,000 problem.

I'll admit one thing: If Petrie pulls the trigger on a deal that brings Artest to Sacramento, he's putting his entire career on the line. It'll either be the smartest move he ever made or it'll cost him any kind of future in the NBA... Gotta admit he's got brass ones if he's willing to take that chance.

u know, if the rumors are true, theres another possibility....

that sactown is the third team and not receiving ron, but pieces from another team....

who knows...i still will be surprised if ron ends up in sactown....

Were you surprised when Chris Webber ended up in Philly?

;)

Nothing should surprise you if you've been a basketball fan for more than about three months...

I don't think this rumor has any more substance than any other. It's amazing how many times we've heard that Artest will be moved within hours...and nothing happens.

As I said, I just want it to be over. Move him, retire him, turn him into a planter - I really don't care. Just get on with the business of playing basketball.

;)

you know, lets not forget how the kings have a history of turning around "troubled" players...webber, jimmy jackson, and bonzi. and from what we know, they loved it here...so if the trade goes down, maybe rick can work his magic once again!

If the trade goes down, it will take more than Rick's magic. It will take a miracle. :D Artest is not troubled. He is bizarre.
