Anyone know who Grant was talking about tonight?

News10Sean Sean Cunningham
For what it's worth, traded email w/ Andrei Kirilenko's agent on him signing with the Kings, he said: "Not True. Where do u get this stuff?"

Why would AK's agent admit anything to Sean Cunningham? Grant said there's no way he can say who it is. I'd think everyone involved would want to keep it a secret as long as possible, if true, and what Grant said on his show, and what Carmichael Dave is tweeting, isn't helping. I'd say that tweet means crap. But who knows.

Of course his agent is saying it's not true that is in the process of signing with the Kings, because no such thing has happened yet. I'm sure there have been discussions and likely talks with his team in Russia.

You mean like Hayes' agent has been denying all along that he has an offer from the Kings?!

C'mon people! If there have been some discussions it would have gotten out by now. I would dearly love it to be AK but I highly doubt its him. If fact I highly doubt its anyone of note.

We still need to spend some 4 or 5 million (MLE type money  ) just make it to the minimum cap so there will be a signing but nowhere near the type of player we are hoping for.

Wilson Chandler? Yeah i know he's in China, but you never know, we might be trying to help with his buy-out...
Pretty sure he is a restricted free agent mate so Denver would have 3 days to match. Apparently Grant was saying that the signing could happen tomorrow which would imply that its an unrestricted free agent or its going to happen via trade.

Technically, couldn't a RFA signing also happen tomorrow if the other team declines to match?

thing is that it couldn't be an amnesty guy, because that is all controlled by bidding now, and I assume the bidding is public, so we'd know. And its also something we would have no control over/wouldn't be able to say its 50/50 or whatever without knowing what other teams would offer.

Grant stated Reke is the PG, Jimmer is there backing him up, and he said its not a PG. So no Barea. We just resigned Thornton so I think its safe to say that we aren't signing another major SG. We just signed our 4th big who will be looking for 25+ min up front, and again if we were signing a major player, expecially a David West type player (who is the only guy who fits Grant's description and is now goign to the Celtics in a sign and trade) that would be ridiculous + there would ne no minutes or shots for anyone, including the guy (Hayes) we just signed.

So I really do have to conclude its a SF based on the evidence we have. Its our weakest positon. Clearly the one most able to be upgraded by a "well known non-All Star player" who is a clear upgrade over what we have and that will "make Kings fans happy". But most of those players who were available aren't anymore. Battier is going to Miami. Prince reupped in Detroit. Jeff Green reupped in Boston. Caron Butler, Grant Hill, Mike Dunleavy all signed...who actually is left EXCEPT Kirlienko?

Whoever the player is, and I'm not going to get my hopes up as these things often disappoint, the Kings have made an offer:

Grant Napier:
Been getting lots of questions about mystery player on show today. Team made a great offer, now it's wait and see time.

It sounds like an AK situation to me.

Grant said we gave him a great offer .. mentioned how its 50-50.

Doesn't that sound like a situation where we are trying to bring in a player who is under contract over seas? AK really likes it over their and may want to stay, that could be the '50-50' .. does he want to return to the NBA? it didn't sound like we were really competing with other teams based on how he was talking.

watch it be Peja

He is available. He is a shooter and a vet. Won't need a lot of minutes just put in the game in key sceneriors like spreading the floor for a last minute 2 or 3 and when needed all the best FT shooters on the floor. Salmons/Jimmer/Thorton/Peja can 3's.

AK47 would be more exciting option though because he plays D and is younger. Can't wait to find out who it is.

Stated elsewhere is that AK47 currently is playing for CSKA Moscow as recently as last night Moscow time. Seems unlikely he could get away and to west coast anytime soon, if he can at all. Seem to remember he signed a multi-year contract with CSKA??? Wish it would be but..........

He did sign a multi-year deal, but it has an out clause to return to the NBA if he wants.

Might just be a question of how many zeroes we gave him to influence his wants.

If that fink coach from Orlando can sign and fax is contract to them from Kinko's in Sacramento then I'm sure AK47 could do the same from Moscow.

I agree that from Grant's hints, it's not an amnesty guy. But I doubt the bidding is public - the waiver process has always been blind before and there have definitely been mentions in the media that the secondary waivers for amnestied players would be blind.
