Annual DMC trade thread

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll post it here too.

I have a theoretical question.. if we don't reach 40wins this season, and the Celtics have Ben Simmons and Marcus Smart available. Would you trade Cousins for 1 of the most revolutionary prospects? It's certainly on the table right now if we decide to go that route. If we trade Cousins, chances are that Rudy is traded too. I don't think we'd have any use for Rondo left. We'd have LOADS of cap space left. 2016 FAs: Batum, Horford, Noah, Conley, Anderson, Fournier, Beal, Barnes, Motiejunas, Whiteside, and Clarkson. In bold are players 25 or younger. So if we go rebuild again, I think we'd be ok.

The Wolves are 2 years gone from Kevin Love and they have a monster team right now in Rubio, LaVine, Shabazz, Wiggins, and KAT. It looks like they'll be in the playoffs next year. If the Wolves can rebuild fairly easy, can the Kings follow? It makes it even better than we actually have good role players and pieces around our
team. We have Collison, McLemore, Belinelli, Casspi, WCS, and Kofus left if we decide to blow it all up. These are all players who could be contributors in a playoff squad.
We might have close to $40million in cap space next year if we trade Cousins and Gay while getting back a few pieces.

If the Nets pick isn't the #1 overall pick...I'd hesitate to do the trade.

smart move by riley. get SOMETHING for him instead of like 2nd rd picks and trade exceptions that will never be used. *cough* tyreke/it *cough*

Oops, I meant to expand. I was suggesting the Marcus Smart, Nets 2016 1st rounder(hopefully Simmons), and the Nets 2018 1st rounder.
Simmons is a franchise player day 1.
Ben Simmons is probably the best thing we could get for Cousins...unless you really like these combos:

Beal , Gortat, and their 2016 1st round pick

Vucevic, Fournier, and their 2016 1st rounder

Do you think Beal could be a franchise player? I honestly think Fournier could be one. He played amazing in the beginning of the season until the Magic shook things up.

Just a heads up, but the Nets don't have their 2018 first rounder, went to the Celts in the same deal as next years. At least we do not have King as our GM!

If I'm going to have a PG on the team that can't shoot, it's going to be Rondo, not Smart. I admit to being biased. I'm not a big fan of Smart, and frankly, I question his intelligence. He couldn't hit anything from beyond the arc in college, but he continued to jack them up anyway. He shoots off balance and with one of the strangest releases I've seen. So Smart and the Nets 1st rounder don't come close to being enough for Cousins. Yes, I think Simmons is going to be a special player, and if you end up with him you almost have to trade Rudy. Simmons comes the closest to being Lebron like, than any other player so far. And he can play both the PF and SF positions. Hell, he can play the PG position. But your betting on his potential and trading proven all star for it. So I need a little more insurance.

First, I keep Rondo. I don't want Smart. I want the Nets 1st round pick, and another 1st round pick this year. I want a 1st round pick next year. We almost have to include Lee into the deal to make it work, and it gives us some financial freedom in the off season. The player I'd want is Bradley, but I seriously doubt the Celts would part with him. So I want Olynyk who is very skilled big man who can play both the center and PF positions. You would have two high picks in the coming draft, and if the balls bounce the right way, you end up with Simmons, and you would have a shot at players like Jakob Poelel, Kris Dunn, Jamal Murray, Henry Ellenson, Jaylen Brown, etc.

Make no mistake though, your taking a couple of steps back to change the dynamic of the team. In the long run it may be a better team overall, but maybe not. What I know is that for whatever reason, Cousins doesn't look like the same player. Don't know if it's the system, or if it has to do with injuries. Or both. I always remember a quote from Bill Walsh that he made after trading one of the Niner's best players, might have been Joe Montana. He said, "Its better to trade a player a year too early, than a year too late."

I can't even consider the possibility of going into rebuild mode again. We have Rondo who is I believe 30 along with Rudy Gay, you might as well trade them to! This is considering if you go for picks by trading DMC. If you trade him for Westrbrook...well then thats a different story lol

But we don't win now when we're supposedly not in a rebuild. We are on pace for 32 wins. How much longer are we going to go in this direction before we realize it's just not going to work with this core?

Replace the coach and the core is fine.

Or neuter the coach and force him to do something he doesn't want to, and the core is fine. Might even be the best case scenario.

Either way the core is fine. Its a playoff core having to fight its own coach. He's been good for several of them, Casspi especially. But mostly its a team built to compete, and does so most the time almost in spite of itself.

Brick, I have a question. How do you think DeMarcus would be under a coach like Carlisle? Cousins seems like the type of guy who demands respect before he respects the coach. I feel like if we brought in an Alpha Dog HC who wanted certain things out of certain players, Cousins may take that the wrong way. I'm curious on how Cousins would react to Thibodeau's coaching. Even though they've been together at Team USA before, that's a completely different environment than actual NBA games. If we grabbed Thibs, high chances are...Cousins will need to lost 10-15lbs and get into the best shape of his life. He's going to get heavy minutes.How would Cuz respond to this?

Karl has always been an alpha-dog type of coach. However, he's tuned it down because of his health.

Who do you think the perfect coach for Cousins could be? I think there's maybe only 1 coaches in the NBA who can entirely get through Cousins. Chances are, the Kings will never be able to steal Pop away.

I think Cousins needs a player's coach. I'm hesitant to give him a player's coach when he isn't a leader. We need a coach who will lead..essentially an Alpha Dog. It's really interesting looking at potential candidates for replacing Karl. Coach Cal might be our best bet...pipe dream.

Why would we keep Rondo if we drafted someone like Simmons? They cannot absolutely co-exist in my honest opinion. I think if we trade Cuz, it would be time for us to move along with everyone else and look for that scoring guard. Smart isn't a shooter, but his potential on defense is absolutely astonishing. I see lockdown defender on either PG or SG. I guess if you aren't high on Smart, the Celtics would rather give up a combo of Olynk/Bradley anyways.

I think the Celts really see Smart as their mile stone player, but they know his huge limitations on offense. That's why they wouldn't be hesitant to give him up for a talent like Cousins.

If the Kings suck the rest of the season through, I think we'll end up with the 4th overall pick. Vlade cannot afford to whiff on any picks.

I'm really worried Cousins' value can tank down faster than most players. If he blows the hell up, it'll scare teams away and his talent wouldn't be able to make up for it.
I guess it'll come down to this: playoffs

No, you misunderstand the issue. This one I know from personal experience.

Carlisle is a good coach, but basically a bully much of the time. Its not Carlisle's schemes that would cause Cousins' to say **** you, its Carlisle's attemtp to dominate and scream and disrespect. Some guys are built to be in the military to take that sort of stuff. Some guys react viserally to any attempt to dominate them. Cousins is the latter. He would be in direct conflict with the old alpha ass George Karl, but this old guy has asked him, negotiated with him, not ordered him in a confrontational manner.

Wow!!! A lot of teams will have cap space. There is no guaranty any FA's will come to Sacto. As for Draft Picks often they don't work out. So you are proposing trading an All Star for a group of maybes:)

Not a good move. You only trade an All Star for another All Star. I don't see any names in your post worthy of a swap for Cousins. Fortunately for us Kings Fans Vlade is the GM and not you:)

I don't know....The Timberwolves have been doing pretty good with the whole Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins trade.... Only 2 years after that trade, they look like the next best Western Conf. team.

Consecutive #1 overall picks in blue chip years and they hit on Lavine. That is not likely to be the outcome for the Kings and most of us know it.

If the stars don't line up and bron dosent have an opt out the sane year as the cavs get the number 1 pick (which is suspect). Minnesota doesn't get Towns/Wiggins and they don't get Klay Thompson either. Don't know why anyone even brings up them as a model there situitaion never had and never will happen again.
 
KAT and Wiggins were Blue Chip. Lavine was a 13th pick who was not expected to be the stud PG he has turned out to be. Cousins was a risk according to draft experts which is why he fell to #5 and allowed Geoff Petrie to draft him. John Wall, Evan Turner, Derrick Favors and Wesley Johnson were drafted before Big Cuz!

I don't want to be a dick on Christmas Eve, but LaVine was drafted lower in the lotto because he came out really raw with a low bball iq :)

Many people saw his great potential, but he was a lot more raw than the guys ahead of him. It scared a few teams away.
 
Which actually just underscores the whole "You don't give up an All Star for some decent players and a hope that you find that pick in the draft who might pan out"
I'm too old for this... DeMarcus is the player we have been trying to draft for the entire history of our lottery lives. It frustrates me to watch our utilization of him mucked up by the disorganization and flux our franchise was in when we finally, finally landed it. I have hope that there is enough stability and vision in the front office to actually build for the future (thanks Vlade) now. If I hear some cockamamie trade made for flexible pieces and draft picks, I'm done. I won't live long enough to see a talent like this on our team again if we do that, and watching Cousins rip up the Kings and the rest of the NBA while we all bemoan the fact we let him go and make up ludicrous trades to get him back as we wallow in perpetual door matness does not appeal to me.
I mean, seriously, the same people were ready to trade him for 3 pieces from the joke that is the lakers........... let that sink in for a bit.
