Amick tweeted Kings are looking at a trade with Memphis. Actually, not much of a deal - we just give them Sergio so we dont have to pay him. Can't get a link right now, just check his Twitter.
Kings are looking at a Sergio Rodriguez deal with Memphis, most likely for a trade exception.
Would save them his expiring salary the rest of the year and Sergio would certainly be happier. New York and New Jersey have also inquired.
Great! So we basically traded brockman for Blair. Another cost cutting move that doesn't help the team's talent.
I don't like giving Sergio away. I would love to resign him if we traded beno. He'd be a nice backup PG for years . Nice change of pace guard.
hey at the time Beno looked like a total mess. unable to even be a backup in this league... we had to do something with the PG spot.
Blair would have been great. but his knees are still ticking time bombs and at the time who would have guess he would have fallen that low... what if's
So we really needed a backup point but felt pretty confident in our front line? Not buying it. Not suggesting it changed the seasons outcome but still seems to be a cost move alone.
So giving Sergio up for nothing more than saving money? That really makes that draft day trade for him look bad now. How nice would it have looked to have Blair now?
This was posted at noon in the countdown thread......are to going to make a thread for every amick update?
What, for us normal people, is a "trade exception"?
Since we'd be trading Sergio's 1.9M into Memphis' free cap space and not bringing back salary we get a credit good for one year that we can use to trade for another salary.
So basically we could trade a 4M player plus the 1.9M trade exception for a 5.9M player. Its a good trade chip because its the ultimate way for a team to shed salary and save money.
Not that there has been much noise on the Beno front, but if we actually send away Sergio for nothing, that pretty much guarantees Beno will not be going anywhere.

It makes no sense because Sergio is hardly seeing any time since Martin returned anyway.I think this trade makes sense, especially when you consider Cisco will be returning and he plays PG/OG/SF...
