Amick: Sergio possibly going to Memphis.

Amick tweeted Kings are looking at a trade with Memphis. Actually, not much of a deal - we just give them Sergio so we dont have to pay him. Can't get a link right now, just check his Twitter.

So giving Sergio up for nothing more than saving money? That really makes that draft day trade for him look bad now. How nice would it have looked to have Blair now?

Great! So we basically traded brockman for Blair. Another cost cutting move that doesn't help the team's talent.
hey at the time Beno looked like a total mess. unable to even be a backup in this league... we had to do something with the PG spot.

Blair would have been great. but his knees are still ticking time bombs and at the time who would have guess he would have fallen that low... what if's

I don't like giving Sergio away. I would love to resign him if we traded beno. He'd be a nice backup PG for years . Nice change of pace guard.
if you want the change of pace to be ugly wanna be street ball... then i agree sergio is a nice backup...

if you want a good PG that knows his limits and can keep things under control then sergio fails

So we really needed a backup point but felt pretty confident in our front line? Not buying it. Not suggesting it changed the seasons outcome but still seems to be a cost move alone.

I always liked the change of pace Sergio gave us I think if he could just control his turnovers more and the 'always getting dribbling into a trap and firing up a brick' Id hope he can fit here for cheap for a couple years.

no one knew that Sam Young or Blair would fall that low... this team had holes everywhere...

Initially, the Kings rented Portland 1.9 million in cap space for 1.1 million dollars. (3 million in cash minus 1.9 million). Now, they might increase that figure by dumping Sergio early. The Kings made a call to drop from 31 to 38 for cash considerations and it cost them Blair when he fell a lot lower than anybody predicted.

Beno’s play is a red herring. The Kings had already decided to pull the trigger on Evans, with the intent of playing him at PG. They rented cap space and got a 3rd point guard.

Since this was pre, let’s go ahead sell the family beer distributorship time … all of the evidence points to the move being about bucks and not buckets.

Amick updated that his source was off. Memphis does not have a trade exception, it would have to be something more. However, NY does have a trade exception.

Sergio for Thatbeet!! Come on!! lol

Well this is disappointing. We finally get Sergio, who proves to be a good passer but exhibits all the same problems that he had in Portland. Still a valuable role player though.

Unfortunately, we made the deal for Rodriguez before the draft and DeJuan Blair fell into the 2nd round. Sure, Blair might not be playing in 1-5 years b/c of the ACL issue, but man could we use him right now. And for all of us long-clamoring for Petrie to make a draft day deal, he finally made one, and the end result doesn't look so hot should this deal go down. Maybe he should stick to his old habits? :p

On another note, how many of us will be upset when Kenny "The Moveable Piece" Thomas is left untraded? I for one will be - we could have, and should have - bought him out 3/5-4 years ago if that's the case, and could have freed up a roster spot while he cashed his millions...sure it would still affect our cap, but man, I really want to proven wrong come Thursday. Bag of chips?

What, for us normal people, is a "trade exception"?
Since we'd be trading Sergio's 1.9M into Memphis' free cap space and not bringing back salary we get a credit good for one year that we can use to trade for another salary.

So basically we could trade a 4M player plus the 1.9M trade exception for a 5.9M player. Its a good trade chip because its the ultimate way for a team to shed salary and save money.

I don't think you can combine them. You can only trade for a player of equal or lesser value of the trade exemption.

Not that there has been much noise on the Beno front, but if we actually send away Sergio for nothing, that pretty much guarantees Beno will not be going anywhere.

Yeah thats a little disappointing. still has 3 years left after this one for 20mil. Beno will be here for the duration of his contract it looks. Well we can still hope for a noc deal.

The way Blair's playing, we should have drafted him if we'd kept the 31st pick, regardless of what may happen with his knees in the future. However, there's no reason to assume that we would have. The team who acquired our pick didn't, and neither did the next five teams.

Pointless trade made because of logjam created by Martin. Getting rid of one of the few players who have shown some willingness lately just to save a buck.

I'm starting to hover back towards the Rachel Phelps theory on this franchise's behavior.

I think this trade makes sense, especially when you consider Cisco will be returning and he plays PG/OG/SF...
It makes no sense because Sergio is hardly seeing any time since Martin returned anyway.

We need to clear out someone who is ahead of Sergio in the depth charts at SG/SF.
