American Idol 2009! Rank your favorites!

Best top 4 ever.

Then there is Matt.

I sure hope he is the one to go and not Allison.

Adam (should tour with Queen)
Allison (should tour with Chrissy Hynde)
Danny (the "soul patrol" guy from a couple years ago times 10)
Kris (handsome)
Matt (meh, Justin Timberlake wannabe).

Good lord. Adam in the bottom three and then either him or Matt to go home? That freaking sucks...but it might just well have awakened a whole lot of people to the fact they have to VOTE to keep someone around. I cannot believe America didn't vote Adam at the very top...

What a crock. If Adam is voted off I vow to never watch this show again. My guess is that, after tonight, they may have to add another phone line for Adam...

Buh-bye, Matt.

I think I am the only person in America that wanted Adam to go home.

I just hate his voice, and he is the reason I haven't watched American Idol above everything else this year.
I do not get the love for him.

And him not going home is probably a wakeup call leading to his inevitable win.
Yay.

Bye Matt.

Bye Matt's mole and the crazy hats that you wear to cover it up.

1) Lambert--Fans are going to vote for him en masse after seeing what happened to him last night.
2) Gokey--Finally a solid vocal, and he's got a huge fan base and is a "chosen one" by judges who want to see him in top 2
3) Iraheta--Well, it's rock week next week, and while she lacks a consistent fanbase, this is an area where she should thrive in. She may have to put some extra spice in her singing, because the style might be growing a tad stale
4) Allen--He's consistent because he never steps out of his comfort zone and interprets songs extremely well, but he lacks crazy range and does limited runs. Not sure if he can do the same in rock week

Sad to see Matt go--while he was clearly the weakest by a mile, his nerves really, really did him in. But after being eliminated basically three times, he's ran out of chances anyway.

VF21 Final Four Power Rankings

1. Adam
2. Danny
3. Allison
4. Kris

Rock week? I cannot wait to see what Adam decides to sing. Does he do the obvious - the Elvis song? Or does he pick something from Aerosmith, since Paula has compared him to Steven Tyler?

I agree with Arby's that Allison should be able to really sell her talents next week. I'd have her pick something by Joan Jett.

As far as Danny goes, I think he might be able to do justice to something by Genesis/Phil Collins.

Kris? If he finds something that takes him out of his shell, he could actually move up on my list...

Getting down to the real nitty-gritty.

:)

Am I the only one wondering why Slash would have been picked as a mentor for a singing competition? I was really jazzed by Smokey Robinson and Jamie Foxx. I expect to be underwhelmed by Slash...

I'd say he has a lot more credibility than Jamie Fox and certainly Quentin Tarantino. Plus he has his new album to promote, so, I guess we all saw that coming.

A lot more credibility? I beg to differ but that's a discussion for another day.

As far as tonight's efforts are concerned, I think Danny's journey may just have ended. If you're gonna do "Dream On," you'd better hit that scream - and he didn't.

Adam continues to impress me and regardless of the outcome of AI, I'm an Adam Lambert fan.

Allison was bad on the beginning part of the song, but I think she's probably safe.

I did not like Kris' rendition of one of my favorite Beatle songs at all. And I'm just not impressed with his ability to show variety. He's just Kris, no matter what the song or the genre. But he hit the notes, and Danny didn't...

I suspect it will be Danny going home, leaving Adam, Allison and Kris in the final three. I think a final with Adam and Allison would be the best possible scenario and I hope they take the advice of the judges and consider doing duets on each of their albums.

Wow Danny was bad, but he has been such a frontrunner all along, never in the bottom three, it would be kind of a shocker if suddenly he was gone. Maybe people will forgive him for daring to take on a Steven Tyler joint.

Kris... his aw shucks head bobbing grinning version of Come Together I hated - that song should be way heavier and darker. I actually thought he got off to a better start that Danny on that duet, but I got the feeling he has given up... something about his expression told me that he KNEW he was having a rough night. Again, taking on a number recorded by Steven Tyler is not so good (I know it is a Beatles song but Aerosmith's version is my favorite).

Allison I could listen to an album - her voice is really easy on the ears. Better than any of them where voice appeal is concerned.

Adam did a nice job as usual. Man he looks good on stage with his tall silouette and swagger. He's good. I thought he mimicked the Robert Plant version a bit but the judges did not confront him on that. It sure seems like Kara wants to do him (scandal brewing maybe lol)

Memo to all singing contest participants... stay as far away from Steven Tyler as you possibly can. Any time any contestant in any contest tries a song recorded by Aerosmith, half way through I'm thinking about how just awesome Steven Tyler is. Can't think of an exception. Bad song contest strategy to take him on.

My vote = Kris goes home. Danny deserves a mulligan.

I think Slash and Jamie Foxx were both lame choices for mentors. Sorry but that awful auto-tuned to death song Foxx sang made my ears bleed and was an instant loss of credibility. I thought Slash's Snakepit was considered a "solo" album but I guess what they really meant is that he is singing on his new project too. Izzy was the guitar genius behind G'n'R but Slash had the look and played lead so everyone thinks he wrote the songs so I don't have much hope for this new effort, especially if Velvet Revolver is any indication. The good ones were all Axl/Izzy holdovers from Hollywood Rose. The sad thing is that they have all pretty much sucked since they split. I love that first G'n'R abum and EP (even the Lies version).

Wow Danny was bad. And I don't think its because Steven Tyler is so good... you've got a band to work with, make the song work for your voice. He couldn't decide whether to sing it straight or sing it husky so he alternated both awkwardly. I think he botched some lyrics... and then the scream. Wow. If you can't hit and hold the high note at the end figure out a better way to close. This isn't karaoke where you're locked into the arrangement, creativity counts here. He also bugged me in his duet by constantly trying to sing over Kris. While I realize this is a solo contest Adam and Allison did actually sing the song as a "team".

Kris was also really bad. He hit more bad notes tonight than he has all season and he let Danny walk all over him in the duet. Come Together is not my favorite song so that didn't help. I'd have preferred more Rock out of both Kris and Danny.

Allison was ok. She stood out on a night with two duds but was completely outclassed by Adam. I agree with her that Piece of My Heart is totally played out on Idol - which doesn't mean do another Janis song, it means pick a different artist. She could have rocked another Heart tune or just about anything else. Lost opportunity but she should be safe.

Adam was great on another song I could really care less about. Somehow for my favorite genre of music there wasn't one song I really liked. Oh well. Solid performance, he didn't really take Slash's advice to sing it lower, but that was perhaps the second worst piece of advice of the night.

The worst piece of advice of the night was Kara's suggestion to sing some early Aerosmith, ya know like Crazy/Cryin'/Amazin'. I can't believe I defended her as musically knowledgable at one point this season.

Danny should go home after that mess last night. Simon told him he was safe and usually Simon can save someone by telling them how much they sucked to rile up their base. Danny was bad but was then told "you're safe" so I think he's toast. But if Kris went home I wouldn't be sad even though I have championed him all season because he didn't deliver either.

I thought Adam was very good as usual. Also, Adam and Allison singing that duet was real good. Kris and Danny sucked and their duets too. I thought Kris was pitchy singing that song with Danny.

If I had a choice between Danny and Kris going home tonight, it would be Kris.

How Kris and Danny (Especially following 'The Scream') are in ahead of Allison is beyond me.

I just can't wait for this season to end.

Adam just doesn't do it for me. He IS a 70's metal star. High pitched and over the top.

Danny is decent, but his performance last night was terrible, and even he knew it.

Kris has been generic since day 1.

Ive said it before.

No offense whatsoever, SLAB, but if you're that fed up why not just leave the thread to those of us who still enjoy the show?

Now, back to the topic at hand... I would have liked to see Allison in the final three but I know she's got a bright future in front of her.

My VF21 Final Three Power Rankings:

1. Adam
2. Danny
3. Kris

1) Lambert--Good fanbase and legitimate star quality. At this stage of the game just has to worry about not being too polarizing and over the top, but he's received virtually no complaints from the judges and he has the least to worry about
2) Gokey--Terrible prolonged Steven Tyler scream at the end should really have sent him home, but if anything him staying emphasizes his super strong fanbase. I think he buys into his own hype too much. He's a feel-good story fans must like, but he's been very mediocre throughout and in terms of singing, the most shaky among the three left. But as a chosen one, he's over Kris here
3) Allen--Huge fanbase got him over the hump, and his consistency is awesome--he plays only within a small area and thus doesn't show great vocal versatility, but he's very good at putting his own twist in songs with good lyrical interpretation. He did better than I thought this week. Consistency + fanbase will do that for you even if the judges are trying to throw you under the bus

Allison left sheerly because of her lack of fanbase--she just doesn't connect as well to the audience as the other three, even though IMO she's one of the best singers ever in Idol--in terms of her Idol trajectory sorta reminds of Season 1's Tamyra Gray. She had a very good rock week, but when you just put it in the hands of voters, it's about connection--she just didn't have it. Not to mention that rocker chicks (Glocksen, Overmyer) just don't really do well on this show.

Also--I would like to commend Kris Allen more, because man, when I first started with these rankings I put him at #7. How he went to #3, when the competition gets steeper, is beyond me. Sure several early chosen ones--Grace and Rounds--dropped out quite early, but still...

I never said I didn't enjoy the show.
It is actually one of only 3 reality shows I consider watching.

Is it not allowed to vent against what I don't like?
Sure, I haven't enjoyed this season, but I still enjoy the hell out of the show.
The disappointment and voicing of Allison going home before Adam/Danny/Kris is what makes a reality show good.
You never know what is going to happen...

I remember a specific poster saying if Adam went home they would quit Idol for good.

I was simply voicing an opinion.
Im not a Vote For The Worst idiot who wants the show to die for whatever reason.

Im speaking my personal opinion, while still enjoying the show despite my disagreements with the winners/losers.

Point taken. By reading your posts, I got the distinct - and apparently mistaken - impression that you didn't like the show.

This season's talent has been grating to me, but I still love the show as a whole.
:)

But, I can see where you got the impression.
It's on the talent this year, definitely not the show.

Ill surely be back next year hoping for talent that emulates the previous two years which made me love the show!

(oh, and happy 2500'th to me!)

It was great to see Daughtry tonight. I rooted for him all through season 5. I got to see him on in his first ever concert (the beginning of his tour) at the House of Blues in Anaheim back in February 07.

How Danny wasn't booted after that performance shows just how lame the average speed dialing power voter is.

I've always believed that Allison will be the breakout star of the season and I think its fine going home right here even though its a travesty, it certainly didn't hurt Daughtry who I find awful. She will get enough marketing kick now to reach the kind of audience that she wasn't reaching on the show and with songs written just for her she'll do well.

Based only on this week's performance:

1. Adam
2. Kris
3. Danny

For the whole season thus far, I'd put Danny ahead of Kris. Kris is cute and a very good musician, but he is kind of a yawn to me over all.

I was shocked to see Allison going home.

I think Adam is by far the best, but it will be interesting to see if voting fans think so.

man that was kind of heartbreaking for me, and the best performance by an ousted contender I can remember. Looked like a scene from a movie about a singer who finally made it big... or didn't.

too bad the dorks managing the production didn't keep time for some comments from the judges.

I didn't think she would probably win, but now my favorite is gone.

Of the remaining guys:

Adam
Gokey
