All Time Kings Draft...on a Tropical Island?

I was going to draft a coach here, but now that I can assure myself Kenny Natt will not be my teams coach, I think there is an obvious pick out there for me.

Dominic Mcguire (2009-2010)

Honestly, hes not a bad player at all. Very Athletic, Very good size, Good defender, but limited offensively. If we dont add another Swingman this offseason, I wouldnt mind having him back. His defense and size can really help my team off the bench.

With their 11th pick and the 128th overall pick in the 2010 All Time Sacramento Kings Draft the “Droids for Clunkers” select

Kenny Natt
(Wouldn't mind getting that guy on the right side of the photo, but...)
Before I go on and select my last two towel wavers, my team needs a coach. Obviously getting a coach in SacTown is not a simple task. Arguably, even impossible. They are as common as good centers in the franchise history... But I do have one half of a coach on the court (Woodson) and I am completing it with another "half a coach" type on the sidelines. Natt once played for the Kings (albeit still in Kansas City), was a good assistance coach in contending franchises (Jazz with Sloan followed by the Cavaliers) and is very accustomed with playoff environment, which my team will surely need. Only served as an interim coach here after replacing Reggie in a dismal year and succeeded by Westphal. With the lack of options he is getting a second chance.

And here I assumed that he was without a doubt going to be the 13th coach -- in fact the entire reason I picked my coach this round was because the numbers said I could get stuck with Natt if I did not make my move now. :p

Well, it's time to start filling out that deep bench. Still, I'd like to get someone that's of at least decent value - and that someone is Kurt Rambis (1992-1993).

It's not exactly easy to find a picture of this guy except when he's wearing the "wrong" uniform, so I figured I'd take a photo that at least makes things ambiguous! :p

Rambis was coming toward the end of his career with the Kings, but he was still a good per-minute rebounder and an efficient scorer, even though he wasn't called upon to play a whole lot. But you want tough off the bench? You get tough off the bench. I'm happy to have this guy's one Kings season fall to me this late.

Stats:
PF Kurt Rambis ('92-'93) -- 67gms 11.7min 2.5pts (.516 .000 .667) 3.3reb 0.8ast 0.6stl 0.3blk 0.5TO

...

Yeah, umm... don't look at his stats. Not a good statistical season at all, but he was an active defender and at this point that's all I really want from him. He had a much better season statistically the year before in Charlotte [74gms 25.5min 9.5pts (.449 .368 .785) 2.7reb 5.0ast 1.3stl 0.2blk 1.4TO], so if you're interested in what he's capable of, look there.

Important Stats

Other than my starting center, my bigs have trouble playing a full season for the Kings, so I'm going to take another big guy with this pick. This time I'm going with scoring, and Abdelnaaby scored more points per 48 minutes than anybody on my team except for the guy he'd be filling in for, Chris Webber.

Well, I feel like I can make an equally good argument for both coaches remaining, and neither is Kenny Natt...so I'm going to let MassachusettsKingsFan make my coaching decision for me.

Why?

Because this is simply not going to last until my last pick, and since I don't really need a lot (and there isn't a lot left, player-wise) I figure I should at least pick a season that had a moment.

Wow. That looks just as great from the other angle. Welcome to being All-Time-Kings-Drafterized, Carlos!

I select Ronnie Price ('06-'07) and this monster dunk comes along with it. Ronnie had pretty good per-minute rebounding and steals stats, so he brings a little bit of value despite not really being a great shooter. He can handle the emergency PG minutes off the bench, too. But, seriously, would you rather have this dunk, or a guy waving a towel? I take the dunk.

Stats:

Yes, that was my guy until R2D2 faked me out with the out of the blue Natt selection. After the top guys were gone my whole coaching stratefy was "anybody but Natt", and turns out there was no threat afterall and I could have waited until Rnd 13.

Not a whole lot of talent left, but I cant let this guy go undrafted. I liked him in Boston, and he can actually serve some kind of purpose on my team.

My 12th man, and goon/enforcer/hard foul giver .. lets all stand up and give a round of applause tooooooo....

Vitaly Potapenko (2005-2006)

Hes the Serial Killer in the back. ( And whats sad is that 4 of these guys are on my team )

('05-'06) 9gms 3.6mpg 1.1pts (.715 .000 .000) 0.2reb 0.0ast 0.0stl 0.0blk 0.2TO

12th man. Last guy off the bench. Plug him into the lineup when things get chippy, and he'll make it chippy-er.

So my bench scoring is a little shaky for an uptempo team. I have a strong 10 man rotation, but we could use that extra punch to get us some insurance points. With my 11th pick, I select:

Brook Steppe 6'5" G
('86-87) -- 34gms 19.6min 7.8pts (.477 .333 .830) 1.8reb 2.4ast .53stl .09blk 1.59TO

Sure he'll only play 34 games for us, but he'll make his minutes count. Let's call him my John Salmons insurance. Shucks :).

Clint McDaniel, G, 6' 4'', 180, B cup.
I am absolutely ecstatic to get this guy with my 12th pick. I have no idea how he slipped to this point. This is by far THE steal of this draft. I guess I need to give you a short description of what you all have missed. I think I will let other people who were privileged to comment on his game do the work for me:
- “I have never seen any player like him” Stevie Wonder
- “If you leave him alone for one second you will be punished” his mother to the babysitter
- “If you leave him open you just know what will happen” his doctor to the apprentice during surgery procedure
- “MJ and Magic all rolled into one” a reliable basketball scouting report
I cannot believe my good fortune! With this kind of objective feedback and the great looks on him (just look at the picture) who cares about stats?

Oh – and as the correct answer for that last question is “Bricklayer”, then there you go (I took his best statistical year): Season: 1995-96. 12gms 5.9min 2.1pts (.348 .333 .750) 0.8reb 0.6ast 0.4stl 0.0blk 0.2TO

G/F Henry Turner

('89-90) 36gms 8.8min
4.3pts (.475 .000 .615) 1.4reb 0.6ast 0.5stl 0.2blk 0.7TO

So had several ways to go here, none of them terribly important in the grand scheme of things and decided hey, I am selecting a garbagetime player here, so why not take the Garbagetime Superstar himself? Besides, I needed a little size in my backcourt and a G/F type, even if its just garbagetime size. A bigtime run/jump athlete, Turner's m.o. was pretty consistent. Collect splinters in his behind, then get inserted in garbagetime and race up and down the floor with that athletcism making spectacular plays showing off. Then back to the pine. In between stints with the Kings he would go off to Europe and dominate with that same athleticism (and bit of trivia, while playing in Turkey he picked up Turkish citizenship and played under the feared name of Hakki Uzun). On this website I recently accused Henry of being dumb and not knowing how to analyze basketball. So consider this my way of making it up to him. He can fetch Ron's coffee and score all of our garbagetime points.

The next pick is for da ladies.

BOOTHMAN!
He of the oddly shaped noggin. What matters most is he is a true center, and I don't think I have a real center, so why not. He could block a shot back in his day, and his job will be to basically go out for a few minutes- be tall, maybe alter a shot and hit some freethrows.

There will be no hack-a-Booth here, folks.

Arguably the greatest Center in Kings history*, I'm taking:

Jerome James

('98-99) 16gms 2.6min
1.5pts (.375 .000 .500) 1.1reb 0.1ast 0.1stl 0.4blk 0.6TO

Well, I needed a big body on the bench, and I think Jerome is the definition of big. He's huge and he's massive. Good luck moving him out of the lane. He'll give me hard fouls off the bench and if he has to play 15 minutes a game, at least he'll block shots and rebound the ball. Even wasn't that terrible offensive when he got minutes. But he's one of the biggest bodies in Kings history, actually probably the biggest, so he's good to have. 7FT tall and 300lbs +. That's valuable. You just can't teach size.

Have a look at his HOF numbers per 36!!!

20.6PPG 14.6RPG 5.1BPG 1.7SPG 0.9APG

Those are GOAT type numbers. Not bad for a 12th man.

* Per 36.

Mua ha ha!

I will have the biggest and baddest froncourt coming off the bench. What's so bad about my froncourt, you ask? It's big. And now, it got bigger. I defy anyone to come up with a bigger frontcourt. You know it can't happen, because I've just picked up (not literally, cause that would hurt):

Oliver Miller

Averaged 12.9 pts, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists (not with the Kings)
Didn't miss a 3 pointer OR a free throw while playing for the Kings!

This is all I could find in a Kings Uniform:

I am so lucky to have nabbed such a worldwide asset this late in the game. He's played for the Globetrotters, Greece, Poland, Italy, the CBA, the ABA, the UDA, the MPLA, but hey, I thought this was the USA - Nooot some otherrr, country!

1998-1999 4 games 8.8 minutes 2.5ppg (.455 0.0 0.0) 2.0 rpg
(10 pts and 8 rebs per 36 for you per36ers)

Just try and drive between Sean May and Oliver Miller. You can't. Hell, I could have each just stand on the blocks and the lane will be clogged. Defensive 3 doesn't count if your feet are out of the lane...even if you spill over.

Hmm...methinks I detect hijinks from the resident droid. :p

Well I did say that my last picks are purely for fun, and judging from your comments I thought my “half coach” theme with Natt was not blunt enough, so I took it up a notch…
But just wait for my final pick – I have it in a bag…

Oddly kingsnation thought it was quicker to PM me with his selection rather than just post it, so kingsnation selects the immortal:

Conner Henry.

I will pass the PM along to venom for his pick.

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Okay, 6 days ago William Blake PM'd me and said he would be without his notebook for a week, and gave me his next 2 picks. One of them was Rambis, who was never going to make it back to him, but the other is still out there. So I'm going to give him the full 24 hours here since tommorow is 1 week and he might make it back. Then I guess I'll announce the one guy he gave me and move it back to Venom. Let's say midnight tommorow night as the time limit.

Conner Henry (1987-1988)

He coaches now, but I drafted him for his shot.

He will be a 12th man but he can come in if needed and knock down some shots.

15 games, 7.8 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 1.7 apg

46% FG, 86% line, 48% 3's

That is a healthy shooter.

With our final pick, we select...

Maurice Taylor (2006-2007)

Was torn here with 3 guys but chose Mo as our final pick simply due to his versatility - he can play both forward spots. However, he is a decent offensive player as well. He will be a role player used sporadically on this team, but mostly as a 12th man.

2.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.4 apg
