Adelman Returns

Thanks for posting that. 3 jeers to the Maloofs for omitting it from the broadcast on Comcast. Lame, lame, lame.

very dissapointed I had to go to youtube to see this. We are not a very professional organization. are we.

Three cheers to the fans showing class.

Three jeers to the Maloofs not doing so. As usual.

Agreed. I'm pretty upset with them right now. I gave up lower level center court seats to this game because I'd forgotten that my wife and I were hosting a Christmas dinner at our house tonight. As our guests were arriving, I had the TV tuned to channel 34 so that I could hear the fans acknowledge the most successful coach in Sacramento Kings history. Instead, I got a friggin copier commercial.

I cannot describe my level of disgust.

Reggie did go over and greet Rick warmly. When Reggie first came out of the tunnel he headed toward the Rockets bench, and Rick wasn't out there. As soon as Rick came out Reggie went over and had a warm conversation with him.

The fan ovation was pretty good but cut short as they dimmed the lights and went to player introductions.

Reggie showed class.

Maloofs not so much. They were a noshow on the sideline. Brats.

Reggie Theus greets Rick Adelman

I have a dial-up connection and it took quite a while for me to be able to view this clip. And, for once, I didn't mind at all. Rick Adelman was and is a class act...

Thanks, WVF, for sharing.

Thanks for sharing.

RA is probably the reason I started watching Basketball. Growing up in India, I didn't watch a lot of BB. Came to the US around the same time Kings were becoming a force in NBA, and caught some games switching channels. First became a Kings fan, watching the exquisite passing, ball sharing and crisp execution, and only much later, a BB fan, watching with some reasonable regularity, and learning the basic rules of the game.

It was great to see so many fans including myself giving Rick Adelman a standing ovation.

I was disappointed, however, not surprised that the Maloofs were not there.

I watched Reggie walk over to Rick and shake his hand and just had a nice conversation with him. It was good to see that Brad Miller and Ron Artest walk over to Rick as well.

Kings fans are as classy as You will ever find anywhere

Rick deserved every single moment

Maybe the Rockets will also understand what they have

I liked what Kevin Martin had to say in the Associated Press story, as posted in the Kings News Links forum:

"It was the first time I went against my old coaching staff, I felt like I had been traded,'' Martin said. "I told them (Adelman and former Kings assistants Elston Turner and T.R. Dunn) I appreciated the great job they did here and that they were remembered. He got a standing ovation for a couple of minutes and it could have went five.''

I'm proud of our fans, I'm proud of our players and I'm proud of our coach. I'm not impressed with our owners. That was about as tacky a move as they've made. The fact they choose not to recognize his contributions to the Kings doesn't alter history. It just makes them look petty and small...

For one last time, thank you Rick Adelman. You coached a team that took my breath away and for that I will be eternally grateful!

It takes teams a while to get "Adelman" type of players IMO. When he started here it took us like 3 years to get him the PG he wanted, the SG he wanted, and for Peja to become the player Rick wanted him to become. Right now the only guys I see having a future on that team for sure are Mac and Yao. They don't have the score 1st PG with a nice J Adelman's teams need(Bibby/Porter). Alston's decent but he's more of a passer and his mid range J isn't great(more of a 3 point shooter). Bonzi and Battier seem like they could but they play the same position 2/3 and so does TMac so I don't really see why they'd keep both, especially when they need a real PF. Scola's a liability next to Yao and Hayes does nothing on offense. It'll take them a while to get Adelman's type of players. Right now I think it'd be best for them if they put a line up of Alston/TMac/Battier/Bonzi/Yao. Bonzi and Hayes are the same size and rebound well, but with Bonzi out there they gain a lot more ability to score.

I take it that an "Adelman type" player is a very good player?:D I hope that the Kings can get some more of those "Adelman players" real soon....:D

It would have gone on longer, I'm sure, except as Francisco d' Anconia said, they cut it short going to player intros, instead of letting it end naturally.

I was not surprised the Maloofs weren't there. They're not always there anyway, but I certainly didn't expect them to be at this one. I don't know what is wrong with them. Even if they didn't like Rick, how can you not once publicly acknowledge and thank the man for the many wonderful years he gave this organization?

I certainly hope that the fans "thank you" ovation meant a lot to him. We're more important than the Maloofs, anyway. Rick Adelman, you are a class act.

THANK YOU COACH ADELMAN! :D

Edit: Amick's column is wrong about one thing. Adelman did do a fairly lenghty interview on 1140 radio. It was a nice interview.

Wow. GREAT job Fans @ Arco with the respect shown to RA. Outstanding. I wish I could have been there!

(and thanks for the link to those clips!)

How sad is it that Rick Adelman didn’t get the appreciation he deserves from the Maloofs. Is this a matter of pride or ego? Just suck it up, go to the game, say thanks for all he did and say bye. Yes, he did do something for this franchise…Am I surprised that they didn’t show up? No. But it bothers me (from what I’ve heard) that Adelman didn’t get the recognition he deserved.

What a class act, a true gentlemen and a wonderful coach. I miss him and hopefully the Rockets and their fans realize what they’ve gotten.

It makes me happy that one of our players appreciated Adelman. Kevin was the only person who said that it was a mistake to let Rick go (a couple years ago) and so far he’s the only one, from what I’ve read, that appreciates him (even though some of the players went over to Rick and the coaching staff before tip off).

Thanks WVF for the videos.

Thanks for the videos! I am glad Rick Adelman got the respect and appreciation he deserves (at least from the fans) !

I, for one, am not going to take sides on the Adelman - Maloof spat (if that's even the right term). The Maloofs clearly look bad in this situation. However, what do we really know what went down. Perhaps, there is a very good reason the Maloofs became very unhappy with Rick and no longer want to associate with him, but are taking the high road and not airing dirty laundry in public. Perhaps it is all on the Maloofs and they are being jerks. I say "perhaps" because we have no way of knowing. It would be a big mistake to take what we read and hear in the media as the whole story and draw conclusions from it.

I don't care what went down behind closed doors. I don't care if the Maloofs hate him for some reason. It does not negate the fact that Adelman coached the Kings through the best years of the Sacramento era, by far. He created a team that put the franchise on the map.

Irregardless of how the Maloofs might feel on a personal level, they owed the man the decency to give him a public thank you for everything he did for the franchise. They owed it to the fans to do so.

It doesn't matter what went down.

By acting childish, they ARE trying to air their dirty laundry in public. The smart thing would have been to just act normal by coming to the game, letting the fans give their thanks, and moving on. No one would have thought twice about this.

Now, they've played their little baby game and are open to criticism from the fans. Not real smart on their part.

I don't think the Maloofs were slighting RA, just avoiding an awkward situation. Like the official presidential congratulations of the Nobel Peace Prize this year. It was just weird seeing those people in the oval office together, and it is similarly so with Adelman and the Maloofs in Arco.
