He talked with Petrie yesterday and some people in the organization today and Petrie tried to move up in the draft and down in the draft with no success. They really wanted Joahkim Noah and Brandon Wright. Also at pick 10 they took Hawes because a center with his skill set the passing and shooting really only comes around every couple years and they were high on Al Thornton and Julian Wright, but there thinking was it is alot harder to get a skilled big man than a slasher/athletic guy like a Thornton or J.Wright. So they went with the guy they though they needed most the skilled big man. Also another reason is they dont know if Artest will be back or not so that is another reason they didnt take Thornton because if u have Thornton and u still have Artest,Martin,Garcia that is four guys who play basically the same position.

I don't think we need another SF though since Salmons, Garcia, and Martin can all play it. If we trade Ron it should preferably be for a solid 4 or 1. On that note, I'm happy to have Bibby stay if Ron goes, but no matter how much they say they get along, they just don't work well on the floor together.

Reggie Theus just on the air with Grant wanted to know what the feedback was on Hawes. Grant told him it was pretty negative overall. Theus then went into a bit about Hawes positives for the Kings (especially his low post presence) and what he needs to work on - more defense and rebounding. He also said Hawes is very fundamentally skilled and that work on his strength and lots of intangibles will also be priorities for the 19 year old. Theus indicated they would not have selected the big Washington center if they didn't think he could play in the NBA and contribute initially off the bench to what the Kings want to do this season. Theus also rather cryptically implied that his roster may change some more before the upcoming season. He said he will make at least one hire to his staff very soon and prior to summer camp in Vegas with the others following asap. Meanwhile, he's just getting his feet back on the ground in Sac, with family relocation, tying up loose ends at NMSU, etc. Reggie Theus has an upbeat personality and it was on display in his interview with Grant and Mike on KHTK - despite all the naysayers.

i was really pushing for brandon wright, and thought we could get it done cause jordan was looking to trade the no. 8 pick and we didn't throw a deal at him, even though he would of probably take j rich over any deal we had to offer but i just wanted a legit pf

Hawes' college coach, Lorenzo Romar, was on Grant's show earlier. As expected he was very complimentary of his former player, especially his shooting ability with both right and left hands, his passing skills and his intelligence. He closed by saying Hawes' two weaknesses are defense and rebounding. He still sounds very Brad Millerish to me.

Geoff Petrie interviewed just now on KHTK was wide-ranging but the only thing of note I can recall was this out of his mouth (regarding all the noise about what he does and just did): "When you lead the orchestra, sometimes you have to turn you back to the audience."

Colorful take on the standard being a leader requires making unpopular decisions schtick -- he should pass it along to Bush. However I can play the analogy/metaphor game too, and when you lead the orchestra and the audience is booing behind your back and pelting you with rotten fruit, you may want to reexamine your leadership. When they actually start to walk out, you may not be leader much longer.

Nothing flew over my head, because those naysayers have their opinions and so do I. What's with the silly attack on his looks - jealousy? Theus is going about the first seconds on the job of proving the naysayers wrong by being upbeat - that's a negative too in your cynical world!? Did you hear the interview because it was short and fairly wide-ranging. I'll wait until Reg at least coaches his first game in the NBA before lining up to jump off a cliff with all those already snickering in line.

No, contempt for the process in the same way that the sudden hiring by your lecherous boss of a new secretary who happens to be a blond ditz with DDs and 4 apparently non functional buttons at the top of her blouse inspires contempt. And maybe, just maybe the ditz is a good secretary. Just because she's a busty blond who doesn't beleive in wearing bras doesn't mean its impossible that she's competent. But it certainly puts the matter into high doubt, in particular when various much plainer but solidly professional options were passed over for Ms. Bosom.
And when a supporter of Ms. Bosom then later on says, "despite all the naysayers, Ms. Bosom looked really hot today" as some sort of attempted jab, he is quite missing the point.

i'm very much in the middle about Theus. there's no doubt he's a Maloof guy. Good looking, charismatic, charming, well spoken. But, i honestly believe that Petrie backs him too (i haven't seen any evidence stating otherwise), which means he'll probably make a pretty damn good coach
we'll just wait and see
i hope every Kings fan gets to put a foot in their mouth at the end of the season when Theus coaches us to 50+ wins, with Spencer Hawes dominating everyone along the way and going 20/12/4/4 for the season
it'll also be really funny to see monkeys flying out of everyone's asses while they have their feet in their mouths

The analogy of the lecher boss and secretary is totally misleading and wrong. I don't know what decade you're in, Brickie, but Reggie Theus hasn't been the vapid heartthrob you seem to think he is for a very long time. And not everyone looked at him that way to begin with.
Judge Reggie Theus by the job he does. Judge Spencer Hawes by the way he performs on the court. I think they deserve that much. And so do the fans around here who would like to be able to post something upbeat and positive without it always having to be refuted or made into "rah rah" or "homeristic mumbo-jumbo."
Yes, you're pretty much upset with everything that's gone on and have made it abundantly clear to everyone. But that's just your opinion. People with differing opinions should be allowed to have their say, too. Not everyone is as confrontational but that doesn't mean they don't care as much about the team.
Can't we just get back to being a little more civil? All the anger and personal attacks being thrown around here by a number of the members just seem to defeat what's made Kingsfans.com the #1 Sacramento Kings online community.

No indeed, I mean Reg hasn't tried to make career off his looks in at LEAST 5-6 years. Then after those 4 long hard years of exhausting 30 game a year college seasons, presto, he's an NBA coach wiht less than a full NBA season of COLLEGE games under his belt. Its very cute. Really. Just got to find some money men who treasure the show over substance.
And here I'll drop into my own "you", because if "you" did not have a fan thing for Reggie dating back to the 80s "you" would be able to recognize the same dynamic as last year, when it was the cute little guy with the oh so snazzy powerpoint that did the trick. Them Maloofs are deep I tell ya. I could probably have had the job myself if I just showed up to the interview wearing a gold lame suit and a pimp cane.
As for the rest, I'm not going to respond with too much more than a "glass houses" reference as day after day the board is subjected to a barrage of snarky comments, complaints about insufficient vapidness on the part of "pessimists" (who alas have bern far more accurate than ony other "ist" for years around here) and pokey jabs designed to inspire precisely what they inspire, followed by the usual passive aggressive whining about how picked on they have been. Right. And of course leading to incredibily hypocritical arguments. Bob: "I like move A!"; Tom: "I think move A sucks, and would have gone with B." Bob: "You're a bad fan!"

No, the edit was because I honestly do not want an unending conflict with you - or anyone else. I do feel there's room for the rah-rah people just as I feel there's room for the naysayers. I felt the same way during the Webber-Peja stuff. All I'm saying is that it's my humble opinion that you've become a bit of a bully about all this because of your profession possibly and because you are you.
Way too many people who aren't really forceful are having their posts attacked because they're saying they're hopeful or excited for the future, etc. and I don't think that's who we are or want to be.
And for the record, how Reggie has earned a living before now shouldn't matter. So he went Hollywood and had a modicum of success. He still was an all-star NBA player, a coach of a very successful college team and a man with a lot of personality and charisma that certainly won't hurt the franchise. You keep bringing up his looks as though that's why he was hired and I simply don't agree.
I'll reiterate the one point I most wanted to make and simply leave it at that:
