Make a call on Vandy. No idea what direction Utah goes in, but if they're trying to stay competitive, they all of a sudden need a starting C.
And if they don't, the damage done is going to hurt pretty bad now. haha. Now we see what Brown can do for you. The 3 best wing/G defenders on the roster are gone in favor of shooting. The way the league is going it's flipped, defense seems to be more important in season and shooting is more important in the post season when it used to be the opposite so this team is probably better set up for what we saw in the postseason at this point.
Since we didn't make a move on a C in FA, I'm kinda worried what's going to happen if we did trade Holmes. Huge question marks at the backup 5 at that point.
You can find ways to make it work. Move Vandy/Lyles/Metu/Murray I think can all play some small-ball 5 in small stints. So if you did that, you'd keep Queta/Len in an emergency role. Even still you didn't trust Len/Queta to get it done, you can probably find some C on the street for min to be good enough.
Vandy is that gamebreaker defender this team needs. I'd rather solve that hole than worry about back-up C minutes behind our best player.
Oh I thought you were talking a trade with Utah. I don't see why the Wolves would want Holmes at this point. Would love to have Vandy but I'm not sure we have enough to get it done unless Barnes is getting thrown out there.
i see it as a one and a half year window. If we are floundering at the all star break in 23’24’ then we are selling off the roster aside from Murray.
Yeah Vandy got traded to Utah in the mega-deal. So depending on their plan, float Holmes or Barnes based deal would be fine by me.
Timberwolves still going out in the 2nd round if they're lucky, but, they'll block more shots i guess. Super weird

You don’t think Murray, Barnes, Huerter, TD can hold down the SF spot?I think Barnes just became almost invaluable. The Kings have almost no length combined with shooting at SF for real now.
I do not.You don’t think Murray, Barnes, Huerter, TD can hold down the SF spot?

Oh 100% agree with you there. We don’t have your typical 3 on this roster and while it would be nice to have one I don’t think that condemns us. As you said this area of our team, wings when over simplified, is greatly improved from last year. Not every single one of our teams problems were going to be solved in one offseason, im not saying you thought that or have said that in anyway, but that’s what needs to be remembered here and I think is being overlooked. We have gotten younger, more athletic, better shooters which will improve spacing, consolidated some of our lower guaranteed contracts used on roster fillers to now contributing, beneficial rotation players if not starters. Perimeter and box defense could improve sure, but for year one that falls on Mike Brown’s shoulders. We still have the BAE as well which I fully expect to be used on another wing who play some defense.I guess they could hold it down but not in an above average way. We don't have a single prototypical 3 on the roster. All 2s and 4s who can slide to the 3 if needed.
Not ideal but we've been in worse shape.
You don’t think Murray, Barnes, Huerter, TD can hold down the SF spot?
And Holiday has no business seeing anything more than the end of a rotations minutes so I’m not heartbroken in the least that he’s no longer here. Like I said, we go use this BAE on a Martin twin or TJ Warren if his market is cold let the players I named earlier all take a shot at it fitting into the 3 and let’s find out what we have here.Perhaps they can. Subtract Barnes and bring in another non shooting PF and no, it would be horrendous IMO at this point. The most natural 3/4 type that's had a history of being that as a 3 and D type was Holiday.
Barnes, Murray, Huerter, TD are all capable I think of guarding a number of different style wings that we’ll play against. Probably won’t lock down anyone but I also don’t see them bleeding points and playing non-existentPositions are about who you can guard. Is there a SF that is too big for Huerter but too small for Barnes? If so, can anyone other than the greats guard that person?
Feeling better about not extending the QO to DDV now?

I thought that QO had nothing to do with it. Would $6M a year make a difference? I'll wait to hear from Capt Factorial.
I mean, Gobert-KAT would be unstoppable in like 2008, but man. KAT is going to have to chase wings around on the perimeter now. Not sure how much I love that, considering this is a literal all-in move. Offensively it's fine because of KAT's shooting, but they aren't exactly complimentary on that end either with taking away KAT's post game.
Also, Also, if Gobert goes for this, what the hell is KD going to draw in a trade? Jeez
Where do the minutes go if they use it though? Right now, it could be one of Monk, Huerter, or TD getting the short end on minutes as it is depending on needs since you'd figure Davion has to play at least half of his minutes next to Fox. Monk and Huerter probably expect to play around 25 mpg minimum. The Kings have proven the idea out over the years, you can't fill out your need spots 10-12 deep in your rotation. It looks good on paper but will only cause issues when it comes to the others around them that are likely expecting more burn and are paid more. This is Dontes time here in a nutshell. Gentry had to keep going back to Holiday because again, length.
If they work it right you can maybe replace Holiday's minutes with Huerter? Or run platoon at SG with Monk and him. Might not be too bad value wise since as said, they both make around what Buddy types do by themselves. I honestly don't know how they can work the minutes out without cutting someone out entirely or really cutting into the minutes of either Davion or Murray since while I think Holiday can play some small ball PF, I don't think any of these new crop of G's can. This trade improved the shooting, but really puts this team in a rough spot in terms of having to run 4 guard lineups to get enough minutes for all.
This is just an astounding overpay.I expected Durant to pull in that kind of haul! I mean, Gobert certainly has utility as the best rim protector in the league, but like many, I just don't understand how a Timberwolves team led by KAT/Gobert succeeds in the modern NBA. They make some sense together offensively, I guess, given KAT's elite outside shooting amongst bigs. But you basically neutralize his post ability since Gobert has zero offensive skill away from the rim. He'll always be occupying that space. What a weird off-season this has been already.
The only players who are guaranteed to see minutes are Fox, Mitchell, Huerter, Monk, Barnes, Murray, Sabonis and Holmes. Find out how they work best, where they work best and with whom they work best. If we bring in one of the Martin twins on the BAE then said Martin twin and Lyles are battling for minutes. Monk can moonlight as a facilitator if needed, Huerter can flex between the 2 and 3, Barnes between the 3 and 4 and possibly even Murray. But those initial 8 are the main ingredients with most influence on whether this team succeeds or not. Figure that out first, sprinkle in Lyles, TD and possibly another FA addition where needed.Where do the minutes go if they use it though? This is simply not true, he's most definitely a guard.. Huerter has plenty guard skills and just look at his AST/TO ratio. For the majority of his basketball life he played the PG position actually until he hit a big growth spurt..Heurter is a SF. If anything, it augers the end for Barnes. I don't see Heurter and Monk being remotely comparable.
