He's a talent upgrade but at 8-10 million a gamble that's not worth it IMO. If Durant comes out West I think the odds of the Kings hitting reset at the deadline go up. Monte has to plan for that. If he's not, and he ends up gone, that could set this franchise back 2-3 years rebuild wise. If that player is a 3 and D wing type then I'd have more faith that some team will take them off your hands.

We'll see what happens. I'm not buying into the notion that whatever team Durant goes to gets better. It all depends on what they give in return. I actually could see a scenario where teams wanting to get Durant could hit the pause button on their FA targets, thereby allowing other teams to take advantage or get some value by facilitating the trade.

At the same time, who signs a 4 yr/200 mil extension and requests a trade 1 year later? When the root of all problems was your best buddy Kyrie lol.

The Nets bent over backwards to give them whatever they wanted; fired really popular coach Atkinson to bring in there own guy, paid DJ $40mil because he's their buddy. And in the end, they screwed that franchise hardcore and blew up an amazing locker-room culture of an ascending younger team/culture.

What is it with this Monk fascination? He's an undersized off-the-bench scorer, not a starter. And he's certainly not a defender. Two-way player and "Monk" have probably never been uttered in the same sentence. If the Kings get Monk in favor of DDV, they've really screwed the pooch, imo.

I think there's two reasons he has a lot of appeal to Kings fans:. (1) He was teammates with Fox at Kentucky and they played well together (2) He torched us every time we played the Lakers this season so we know he can shoot. I don't hate the idea, we obviously need more shooting. I just think we'd be better served by finding a plus defender to put next to Fox.

And the question is whether trading Butler for him makes any sense for Miami. Butler has done more with his team than KD has with the Nets. No way does KD go to Miami unless it's to play with Butler. The Suns may indeed have this. Then if Ayton doesn't explode with a better role and they are paying 90 million on a role playing wing like Bridges then the Nets are pretty much screwed to mediocrity unless Irving is all in on staying now. Irving/Ayton/Simmons could actually be pretty interesting.

Exactly, which is why I think this will just come down to whichever team offers up the best package. And apparently the Nets want players that will keep them competitive and they’re not looking for a rebuild. Which is why I think we’d honestly be an interesting trade partner for Brooklyn.

Well, we had that, but apparently he didn't want to be here lol. I like that Monk still gives you youth and upside within this next contract. And he is a very good offensive player/shooter.

Monk is a microwave scorer with plus athleticism. Something the kings have very little of. He’s actually improved defensively every year as well. What I’m not understanding is this infatuation with DDV? He’s a supposed 3 and D player who’s a little above average on D and a sub average 3 guy. Averages under 10 points, sub 35% from 3, and barely cracks 40% shooting from the field for his career. And he’s played on teams with stars who space the floor for him very nicely on lesser defenders. Not to mention has an injury history, doesn’t want to be here and has already been given up on by 3 NBA franchises who could all use SG help or depth. Why are we acting like we just missed out on someone of great importance and discussing him at length?

I actually think Suns are in a good position to make a trade for KD. I thinkna S/T for Ayton at 20-25M rising, Mikal Bridges and Cam payne and 3 FRP (23/25/27) will get KD.

If they want to get him as a scorer coming of the bench for a legit two-way starting shooting guard, then fine. But if he's the starter, they get worse. Marcus Thornton, here we come.

Yeah, 1 v 1 I'd take Monk over DDV, but with where the Kings sit, paying either player as a combo G on a MLE sized deal with possible cap space looming and no concrete evidence of winning yet is a huge risk not worth taking at this point. This is why not firing Walton last summer was probably Montes biggest whiff so far. He created a horrible situation where the holdover effect was coupled with a roster shift and a coaching change in which they didn't really get any decent intel on what this team is yet because it was so jumbled. This is the kind of move you make the summer AFTER you've reached some level of guaranteed stability. Not before.

Not according to the "experts." The only way they could have done that is if Irving would have opted out of his contract and played for a paltry sum. Lakers are hamstrung financially.

Sure, and if they keep Bridges even moreso. I just don't see NJ giving him away, but time will tell.

Suns can offer a much better package than we can and will remain competitive when he gets there. We would have to gut our team to make it worth their while and get salaries to match up. I dont see any move we make keeping them competitive and giving us enough to work with in wgat promises to be very competitive west.

They get the package i listed above and they are working with

And 3 extra FRP in the next 4 years where they can go get a new PG when Kyrie becomes one with the universe. Id say even Payne and Mills manning the point is good enough when you imagine Simmons doing the bulk of the facilitation in when Kyrie leaves. That is still a mid to high seeded playoff team in the east. Has solid shooting and excellent defensively with bridges, simmons and Ayton (maybe a top 3 defense in the league).

You've got a brilliant plan, I can see the path to the playoffs being "the protector of unwanted assets", it's a shame what they did with the 37th pick too, Jaden Hardy is the next Michael Jordan, for sure.

Not sure what the hesitation for anyone in regards to Monk if he was acquired. We still would have Davion and TD who are above average defensively and can slot in at SG dependent on matchups but we do NOT have anyone like Monk on the team, besides Fox, who can go light it up.

Also not opposed to acquiring Payton or Bruce Brown either for their all around games but specifically their defense

Agreed, there’s plenty of risk involved and ideally adding monk is a move made when we have a clear direction with the team and need a spark player off the bench. Unfortunately we made need to make these moves in good faith that that’s where we are headed, especially if we want to show Sabo we aren’t wasting his time and other FAs in the NBA that we aren’t the same old Kangs.

Please, no full MLE deals Monte. Especially on a player coming off a contract year and no guarantees as to shots who only gives you points.
