Weird to see the cap going up each year. I thought it was a fraction of BRI. With COVID impacting gate receipts, even potentially higher TV revenues would have lowered BRI, or at least that's what I thought.
Of course. But I think a lot of people are looking at this emotionally and overreacting to us losing "an asset" rather than actually looking at Donte's career so far. We traded Bagley's RFA rights for Donte's RFA rights -- if Donte leaves we haven't lost anything of value anyway since Bagley wasn't going to be re-signed here. I expected us to keep DDV too but only because we didn't draft a SG. As @New Era already (inadvertently?) pointed out, it's not like his career shooting splits are anything to be excited about.
I was already thinking as I looked at the roster spots disappearing and all of the wing prospects signing on to our Summer League team that we might be better off keeping two or three of those prospects on minimum deals instead of re-signing Donte to the $30 million dollar multi-year deal he's surely expecting. Everything revolves around our cap space next summer. The more we sink into retaining DDV or signing journeyman level players to multi-year deals the less cap room we'll have in 2023 or 2024.

I am not sure he "lost Haliburton." He traded a guy who has lots of upside, but Monte got the better player right now. There is no guarantee that Haliburton is ever better than Sabonis, so I am not sure how you can definitively state that he "lost Haliburton" by trading him for Sabonis. A trade can work for both teams.
"Was played by the league..." is the sort of thing that is easy to say, but there has been no evidence that he was played by the league. All indications, from everyone in the know, was that the Lakers were prepared to take his trade until Westbook became available at the last minute because the Wiz wanted in on the deal. Maybe he was "played by the Lakers," though I am not sure he was "played" so much as had his offer bested by the Wiz (at least as far as Lebron was concerned). But "played by the league." That is BS.
But facts never really matter to you. It is all about how you can spin circumstances into a narrative that supports whatever point you want to make.

Huge difference between a 4 year guy and a 10 year mediocre vet - there is potential upside
Big difference between shooting 32% from 3 and 35% from 3
Big difference also because DDV plays defense.....the 10 year mediocre guys we usually sign do not

Aaron Holiday let walk but the Suns. Not a championship move by any means but wouldn’t mind him being brought in on the cheap and being out third PG. Pesky defender, decent passer and short 44% from 3 this past year.

Well it's 34.7% for his career so far -- I rounded up. You said 33% in your previous post, not 32%. Is +1.7% a big difference?
I was going to say: "The only real difference between a 4 year vet and a 10 year vet is that fans regret signing the 10 year vet immediately while it's usually a year or two before we regret signing the 4 year vet." … but that's probably not fair. Sometimes we regret signing the 4 year vet more because we're projecting growth that never materializes.
Donte is a competent defender. He really only measures out as more than that for one season so far (2019-2020) and that was playing next to Giannis on the number 1 rated team defense in the league.

Why not, it's what the Kings do. Jason Thompson and Bagley both really proved the idea that they could play SF to be something.

The Kings now have 7 players signed (Lyles, Holmes, Metu, Barnes, Sabonis, Harkless and Murray) who are around 6'9 with a sub-7foot wingspan (with the exceptions being Mo Harkless whos got a 7'2 wingspan and Trey Lyles with a 7'1 ws)
(sidenote - it's going to be quite obvious if Keegan Murray has in fact grown some from his 6'8, 6'11 wingspan because of the above)
and the big trade target people keep talking about John Collins from the Hawks would also fit in that group..
So the Kings plan might just be a "screw it, lets be horrible at protecting the rim", which seems to be the case (and yet some will find a way to point the finger at De'Aaron for the lack of defense)
but yeah its kind of hard to believe that a spot for Portis isnt already filled by one of them and I'd hope if they do go after a PF/C it's one with a specialty in blocking shots at the rim, cuz as it stands rn it's going to be a feast for opponents near the rim, as it was last season (4th worst in the NBA letting up 51.3ppg in the paint)

I remember WOJ nearly certain that Collins would be traded either a day before the draft or on the draft. Let's see how long this strings out this time around.

Im guessing the reason why the Kings already didnt make the deal for Collins is they dont want to give up their first rd pick to make it happen..

Sounds like the Bucks are still expected to re-sign him.
I’m also curious how the Kings will manage all those signed players, but was thinking if Collins was still in conversation perhaps Portis should be too.

Not sure you can include 1st round picks in trades if you're the Kings. Would we want to do that for Collins after Drafting Murray? Don't think I would.

I'm of the opinion that Monte should have been extended, so who exactly is calling for his head?
As far as jumping to conclusions in regards to free agency, not sure why that comment was directed at my post, as I had not posted an opinion on today's DDV developments. The last time I mentioned DDV was last week I believe when I said Bagley would be with the Pistons longer than DDV will be with the Kings and there was backlash for that as well. I left it alone to let the process play out, and here we are.
If Monte makes moves in free agency and makes the roster better, then good for him and he will get all the kudos he deserves.
When something appears to be done wrong, then Monte will get the criticism.

I get the feeling the Kings could be the 3rd wheel in a 3 team trade if anything when it comes to Collins. Monte's done it before. Giving up a win now player and a first if that win now player is the only experienced player on the wing in Barnes and after having just drafted Murray would be confusing as all heck.
Well, let's start here and then we can potentially move our way up the food chain. I'd rather have a roster chalk full of "Above average Kings players" than the usual nonsense we try to pass off as NBA talent.
Point is, DDV is young and good. Kings aren't in a position to be letting guys like that walk out the door without an actual plan to replace him (which may be the case, but we'll see).
My guess is we're quibbling over what the protection on the pick are. Barnes is a near perfect fit for what they want to accomplish with their cap sheet long-term, while giving them a win-now guy to stay competitive next year.

Given their current depth chart, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Huerter or Bogi were somehow involved in a trade either. They aren’t giving up four picks to have Dejounte share minutes with three other guards and occasionally give up minutes to Hunter.
Wonder if that’s more of our target as a third team in a bigger Collins trade than Collins himself at this point.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see a Barnes for Huerter based flip either. Capt favorite Jalen Johnson+Huerter for Barnes works money wise. I think they'd jump at a chance to just straight up get off the Huerter money and balance their roster for next season.
