Kings make offer to Iguodala

#91
Regardless of what happens, our front office thinks so highly of McLemore that they literally are about to gut our roster, get rid of Tyreke, sign Iggy to a terrible deal, and 100% bank on McLemore becoming the teams 2nd star. Thats a lot of pressure, and a lot of risk, along with some bad decision making.
We still do have thornton if Ben isnt ready...

Unless we go for a sign and trade with N.O.
Reke (S&T) for Varquez and Lopez.
That's same money plus space to sign Iggy.

Vazquez would be a good choice if we do have interest in Calderon.
The kid has been an assist machine in the Pelicans too.
And Lopez? Yup, an agile big that blocks shot. That's what we we're looking next to DMC.

no, that doesn't work. In order to sign Iggy to max, we can't even get an S&T for Reke for anything but future picks. Any contracts we took back would scuttle the A.I. signing.

They are either going to bright, aggressive and saavy, somehow getting everything they wanted despite dealing form a position of weakness. Or they are going to be shortsighted gamblers over concerned with making a splash, and under informed and under concerned with the implications of that splash.
That is the clear worry. Did they just gamble away the upside and talent of a 23 yr old who's one of the most efficient SG's in this league and has the potential to be one of the elite two way players in this league, which he's not far from at this point, in order to make a quick splash on an aging, near 30 role player who does little on the offensive end to help win games?

And how about two years from now when Reke is 25 and likely closing in on being a top 5 SG if not already there and really coming into his own, still a year or two from entering his prime while Iggy is putting up 10/5/5 as a 32 yr old while on a near max salary?

This trade might look ok for a year to some, but most likely looks worse and worse each coming season and at a certain point I see all Kings fans pretty much asking WTF were we doing offering Iggy 14M per a few years ago.

Here's a comparison. Last season:

Player A) 12.4 pts .507FG% 5.7 rebs 2.8 asts 1.5 stls 17.67PER

Player B) 13.0 pts .451FG% 5.3 rebs 5.4 asts 1.7stls 15.27PER

One of these players made 9.8M last year, the other we just offered a 4/56M contract. Both are top role players, both play SF. See that much of a difference in production?

Player A is AK47, available right now, player B is Iggy.

Get's close, and that would be my hope. Would need an extra piece (Jimmer maybe).
I've mentioned before, the dream scenario IMO would be to match Reke and then S&T Iggy for Thornton and Salmons. We know what Thornton offers to them, while Salmons would be a stopgap backup SF with a decent sized expiring contract. Contract numbers seem relatively close for such a deal to go through.

Yes. $7.5 mil. That would leave us $12.5 mil under the salary cap which coincides with what the first year on a 4 year contract increasing at 4.5% per year with an average of $14 mil would require. In other words, we could sign Iggy, use the Bird exception in Tyreke and sign McLemore with the exception allowed for 1st round draft picks.

I think people have to stop and think. There apparently is an assumption that our FO is incompetent which I define as that they disagree with us. I don't think so.
I don't think they are incompetent, I just really hope PDA is incredibly good with numbers and that he has something up his sleeve to get both. If we get Iggy AND Tyreke... talk about a roster overhaul. 4/5 starting positions would be set for the next 5 years, and we aren't even that terrible at the final roster spot. One can dream I suppose. I'll hope for the best and dream of both until the final verdict comes out. They stated already that Tyreke fits with McLemore, I just hope that counts for something.

Possibly, but that would be seriously endangering us. To end up with a big long term deal still on the roster in front of our #1 pick...or behind our #1 pick so the big longterm contract would put up anemic numbers for the second year in a row and become completely unmoveable? And the real rub is unlike Reke and Thornton, there is no reasonable way to play McLemore and Thornotn together. Neither is big enough to play SF, neither has the handle nor mentality of a PG. So pure platoon at SG, with one platoon guy earning $8+mil.

I like AK, but his durability hurts him.

I have figured out how it can be done and if a few more million are needed to get Iggy, trade Jimmer for a future draft pick. Just get rid of him. People are in full hysteria mode which reminds me of the Maloof/Petrie era.

My point is that instead of getting all morose, we should assume that PDA knows how to sign Iggy and Tyreke as both players were very happy with their meeting with management. If PDA knows how to do it, let's try to think what he has in mind. I've got it figured out if anyone cares. The numbers are big but they make sense. Perhaps people don't like numbers. Let's wait until Capt. gets back and he can check over what I have come up with. I can understand people might have no confidence in me.

As a hint, Capt was on the same path as I before he had to sign off for the night and he could see how we could sign Iggy AND Tyreke. A clue is that the first year on Iggy's contract is significantly less than $14 mil as $14 mil is the AVERAGE over 4 years.

I'm sorry. But the last time my math works, it looked like we're only at 41M now plus amnesty for Salmons 7M contract could slide that value down further.

I thought we have to renounce Reke to sign Iggy to this deal due to the caphold, therefor we lose Reke's bird rights.

Not for nothing but PDA was highly regarded as Denver's salary cap expert

Maybe they think Reke will actually hinder Ben and the rest of the roster's development, because he can't play the 1? That's not necessarily my viewpoint, that just might be what it is. Of course management is going to come out and say Reke and Ben will complement each other, what else are they supposed to say?

We can sign Evans and AI. It would take work and money but it's doable. The issue is does the front office want both players, and I think that answer is no.

I disagree, but I think that is where we are.

C'mon guys let's be optimistic. PDA is a salary-cap specialist, he must have something on mind. Plus, it's not like we have ever seen this FO deal with free agents before, so they will be unpredictable this off season. WHo knows what he has in mind..
!!!!!!

People pretending to know how everything is going to unfold lol we're all in the dark

Did you already post it? I may have missed it if you did and I apologize. There is no lack of confidence in your abilities from my side!

Iggy could still get more from someone else, or a 5th year out of Denver. At this point, Iggy declining our offer seems to be our best shot at keeping Evans. I have a HARD time seeing PDA letting Evans go and losing out on Iggy. He has to take one of them, just has too.

He could blow my mind and land both players, it would take a decent amount of work and $$$, though. Should be an interesting few days.
And we have a lot of days left to work out the Evans deal either way. Maybe thats why Iggy is deemed to be top priority

We have nothing to sweat about just yet, as far as Evans is concerned. Who knows what the hell they discussed
in that meeting last night ...

Your numbers are wrong.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/SAC.html

Current cap at $44.5 without Evans cap hold. His cap hold is $13.1 mil. So our current cap with just Evans cap hold is $57.6 mil. Amenesting Salmons frees up $7.5 mil. So basically we would have around $8 mil to sign a free agent with Evans cap hold. If we sign Evans first then we free up the difference from under $13.1 mil to the first year salary.

Went through the math, and Captn Factorial is right (no surprises there).

Under assumption that 4.5% is max raise and we go that way:
Reke's 4/48 translates to about 11.2 mil first year and AI's 4/56 translates to about 13.1 mil first year.

If numbers change, as long as it is 4 years and 4.5% increase each year just divide total amount by 4.2782 to get amount for the first year (1+1.045+1.045^2+1.045^3)

Truth is that we just don't know. This FO has done a great job at sending out mixed signals and maintaining a strong poker face, which has clearly driven everyone in this forum (including myself) crazy.

I think we've just been trained over the course of several years now to assume that the powers-that-be in Kingsland will more likely than not make the bonehead move that sends us in the wrong direction. Vivek & Co will get the benefit of the doubt from me until they prove me wrong here. We'll know soon enough.

I think the iggy signing only makes sense if you keep reke. I mean why else would we want a great passing SF? If not to put with young spot up shooter and pg that has passing ability but doesn't bank it. I am on the boat of we will have both.
