"Kings trying to lure AK from Russia" Jones Tweet

Like I have been saying all this time, AK47 is in a different position than many other free agents. He loves it where he is at the moment and earning great money so the incentive for him to get back to the NBA is not as great as some believe. We would have to make it an offer too good to refuse for him to leave CSKA.

Might be time to give AK a time frame in which we need to know the answer because we need to move on to other free agents.

"He's still in Russia and he's playing for CSKA (Moscow) and he's under contract over there," Petrie said. "He's in a little bit of a different place in that he's making a significant amount of money right now and when and if he chooses to come back to the NBA at this point we'd still be more than interested in talking to him. But it's still from what I can tell in a holding pattern."

The Nets finally exercised the amnesty clause on Travis Outlaw — freeing up $28 million in cap space over the next four years — and completed a low-risk move by signing forward Shawne Williams to a deal reportedly worth $6.1 million over two years.

They are still pursuing starting forwards, namely Andrei Kirilenko and Kris Humphries, but long-term deals seem to be a non-starter now when negotiating with the Nets.

So looks like we really do have the advantage over New Jersey. Wish this could just get done already.

It is reported by Russian media that opt out clause in 3-year contract signed by Kirilenko has 30 days expiration date since the end of lockout so he has to decide whether he wants to play in the NBA in the next 3 years by January 9th.

If that's the case, that should be favorable for us.

I think this puts pressure on AK to make a decision, and my guess is that he'd rather spend his last few productive years playing on the highest level while receiving a good salary, rather than being locked into his current contract.

Also it means that we're going to have a hard-date as to whether or not that salary is going to get tied up.

Interestingly enough, I believe tonight is the deadline to use your amnesty this year, so if we're looking at both Dalembert and AK then we'll have to squeeze them into whatever salary we have under the cap. I would imagine that the FO is trying to get a read on Hayes' condition, because they are up against a deadline with the amnesty.

Can't amenesty Hayes... also, Dalembert is in "negotiations" with Houston...

Short translation - He wants to play for a good team that is ready to win now or for a young team that has ambitions and is ready to win in the near future.

That seems to be on the wishlist of any basketball player but I am happy to hear the latter part. If there is any team that he could be negotiating with that is ready to win in the near future, it's the Kings. And ......... appealing to another part of any person's ego, he knows if he came to the Kings, he would be a major part of their winning in the near future.

Latter part fits Kings' bill for sure. Tyreke + Cousins + Thornton + Jimmer (potential) our future is pretty bright if I may say so myself. ;)

Now if only we get Dalembert back as well, that's all I want for this season's roster upgrade...

I am holding out for the latter as I think it is possible. Amnesty Garcia and sign AK47 and Daly. That has "Executive of the Year" written all over it for GP. :) And, really, if you can get one guy, your chances of getting the other sky rockets. Ok, OK, I'm a homer but if I was either player looking at the skill on the Kings and looking at the Kings specific needs, I might come as a package. Now someone, tell me that wouldn't be a great team. We can worry about the overload at the 4/5 position some other day but if their is any position that you want to be overloaded at, it's the 4/5 position. They are the last line of defense and frequently are expected to foul. It's a lot of fouls to have available.

Any bets GP is talking up this angle to both players?

That's exactly why I posted it, Glenn. I think he was talking about the Kings. Unfortunately, you can say the same about the Nets - they are not super good now but they can be very competitive very soon. Plus Brooklyn is the Russian capital of America and we all know about Prokhorov.

I think the Nets biggest plus is their owner. Who is also running for Putin's job I believe. I do think the Kings are in a better position to win sooner than the Nets are. Especially if we sign Kirilenko.

it comes down to whether or not AK is willing to sign a 1 year deal. If so, Nets win. If not, we win, unless one of the other capspace teams suddenly enter the fray.

Probably. But Andrei is a family man and his wife has a strong voice in the Kirilenkos household. I think she will rather want them to move to Brooklyn. Kirilenko himself is a very modest and quiet man and he likes places like Utah and she is the opposite of him in this case. I think Brooklyn is a huge plus for the Nets.

Who is also running for Putin's job I believe.
He is. Unfortunately for him, his odds of winning the presidency are ... let's say ... not very good :).

AK is leaving CSKA. Rumors this morning were that he's heading to NJ. His agent denies it. From Amick:

The agent for Andrei Kirilenko, Marc Fleisher, tells SI.com that there have been "no negotiations with (the Nets) at all to date."

Told of report that AK is about to leave CSKA to join the Nets, he says "untrue." Nets and Sacramento were widely known to be interested.

I will be pretty discouraged/mad/upset/disappointed, whatever you want to call it, if AK ends up signing for 9 or 10M per with NJ, and we instead are paying the Salmons/Outlaw duet 11M per.

Be odd to see after we already added Outlaw, but please please PLEASE make it us.

You'd have to hope, that after the layup drill put on by GS, Petrie might consider increasing our offer. I really hope we're not handicapped due to Outlaw. That would be poor business, anyway you slice it, from our gm.

There's more:

Ken Berger: Getting same info from Kirilenko's agent, Marc Fleisher. Nothing doing w/ Nets ... as of Friday, he hadn't spoken with GM King in a month. Twitter

Conor Orr: Source says Nets are not about to sign Kirilenko. Twitter

C'mon Petrie!

My hopes for AK coming here are about 10%yes/90% no. I'm thinking the Russian connection in Brooklyn, and potential Dwight Howard acquisitionare more in favor of the Nets right now. Had we re-signed Sammy D, he would be the last piece in the puzzle so to speak. But you never knoe I gurss with Petrie.

Trading some of our players is still an option, and I think if we were to sign AK would have to be done. We have too many redundant players.

I would say so. Being the Kings I am always scared we succumb to the small ball impulses that have kept us a losing francise for half a century, but assuming we correctly call AK a SF, we would have SIX fo them. SIX!! Kirilenko, Outlaw, Salmons, Garcia, Greene, and Honeycutt. Nutty.

Doesn't seem to be the Nets as of yet, according to twitter. Nothing mentioned about Kings, apart from Amick speculating that we're out of the running due to Outlaw.

Have people forgotten about the Jazz? Apparently Kirilenko was optimistic about returning to them.

They signed Josh Howard.

From Stein:
RT @FredKerber: More from agent: "Not saying there is no interest, but I spoke to Andrei an hour ago and nothing is done."

Maybe I'm wrong, but his agent could be giving us an opportunity to increase the offer, or he'll go ahead and sign with NJ. Can't begin to tell you how disappointed I will be if he ends up signing for what we're paying Salmons/Outlaw. Today could determine whether our FA period was a success, or a failure. Only acquiring hayes/Outlaw would be a failure in my eyes, and even worse, if getting Outlaw took us out of the race.
