SPACE / ASTRONOMY

My degree is in biology, but I've always had an affinity for astronomy. I've never had a formal course in it, but I find it incredibly fascinating...it makes me wish I had pursued it a bit more in college. I can't wait for future missions...continuing trips to the ISS, return to the Moon, probes to Europa and Titan, and of course, our further exploration of Mars.

Thanks D-Mass for making the pick, much appreciated!

My pick is..

"The" Game 7 (Any Sport)

Just so no one is confused.. I'm NOT picking "A" particular Game 7. I'm picking the whole idea of a Game 7.

There is nothing like the excitement of one. The fanfare, drama and celebrations can not be matched.

As a die-hard sports fan, I simply can not pass this one up as one of the best things ever.

Whether it be baseball, hockey or of course basketball - there is rarely a thrill or a moment like Game 7.

They also provide us with some of the most classic memories of all time, as seen above.

Even if my real lucky number is 77 I must commemorate the lucky number 13th round of the draft with my next selection.
Good Luck

We can always use a little of this. For the purposes of this draft let's just say I will be blessed with incredible luck and fortune, the odds will always be tilted in my favor whenever I take a chance.

You're welcome, G3. :)

Löwenherz - Go to www.webshots.com and search under castles. You'll find two more pictures of your castle. I've got them as part of my rotating wallpaper. I think it's intriguing that someone here has a connection to the castle that looks like it stepped right out of a fairy tale.

:)
You're not too far off. It was actually used as the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland and just missed being picked as one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Of course, the King who commissioned it (in the mid-19th century no less) was thrown into an asylum and persumed murdered because the construction of it (which was never completed) nearly bankrupted the country.

So now I have two picks that led their creators into bankruptcy and madness ... my picks in the villains draft are starting to make more sense.

That was on my list. Nice choice :).

I get the lucky charms, wishbone, and pot of gold, but what's so lucky about the elephant in your pic?

Edit: I guess Elephants are lucky too

With my 13th choice, I select:

Being a Father

Sure there’s the crying and the changing, the chasing, and the scolding, but nothing is more rewarding than hearing your child laugh, or watching him grow and understand the world around him. My son is nearly 2 years old, and he's starting to talk so much! Of the 20 best things, this has to be right up there :).

(This is a pic of my son Milo above from last summer)

Please skip me (if you already haven't) while I am rebuilding my PC. I got back from vacation this morning to find that my laptop freezes every 5-10 minutes. I'm trying my best to backup-rebuild-restore but it will take a while. I'll catch up with the drafts tomorrow.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks to all those who sent reminder PM's.

Sorry for the wait, long day at work.

My next pick is...

Days Off/Weekends

I love it... days where you aren't required to do anything. Most of us at least. I put weekends their because that is when most people have their days off, so if that doesn't fly go ahead and take that portion off.

Well, I have been informed that I have missed one over here again, so:

The Harem of Emperor Mulai Ismail of Morocco (1646-1727)

Back really early in this draft somebody picked all the ladies selected in the Pretty Girls Contest last summer. At the time it seemed to be overreaching. But as this draft has developed, it turned out to be a brilliant early strike. I have been pondering how to go about working around it ever since. Somebody else took "the most beautiful woman in the world", and that was fine. But how to take "women" on a variety is the spice of life theory, and do it with some style? That's been tough. So I decided to get me a harem. :p And not just any harem. One of the great harems of all time. A collection of no less than 4,000 lovelies, and true to my "variety" theme, throughout his long life the good emperor had his merchants scouring the globe to pick up women of every nationality and type. And he did it all for me. :D

(Not that I actually advocate slavery you understand. Merely vast collections of pretty girls in skimpy attire. And, er, ankle chains?)

Um, Brick, so exactly which year between 1646 and 1727 was this photo taken? And do you really want 350± year old women as your harem? :p

Make up pick 1:

Czech Women

I married one, the best decision of my life. Going to Czech Republic to visit in laws is a treat for me, not a chore, as there seems to be 1000's if not millions of most beautiful women over there, just milling around and looking gorgeous. And they all (I mean ALL) drink beer. Lots of beer. Usually I have to drink lots of beer for ALL women to appear attractive, but apparently over there it's the bizzaro World.

Sorry so late with this one. My next pick:

Art Deco Design -- Went with a picture of the Lenox Lounge in Harlem here because it's seriously one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, but this is another one of those picks where I'm thinking in broad terms. Not just architecture, but also art deco furniture, interior, industrial, fashion, and jewelry design from about 1925 through the early 1940s.

So, yeah... I updated the board after my pick and even though the coding/formatting is correct after double and triple checking, kings4lyfe32 and Kings Faithful's lists have been smashed together. Don't know why. Unfortunately, since the formatting is technically correct I can't correct it through editing. If a mod can help, I'd appreciate it.

Hrm. Interesting problem. I may have to delete and restore to clear it, but I'll try a couple of other things first...

EDIT: There you go.

:)

Jeebus. I mean... whoah. Sometimes my baby's poop is that color, that is all I can say about that picture.

I had every intention of finally going specific with this next pick

Cheese -- but when I found myself trying to Sophie's Choice my way through a brie vs. smoked gouda decision, I knew I just had to take all of it. I've never been a huge fan of Swiss cheeses, or any of the bleus (except gorganzola), but otherwise I've always been a huge cheese fan. A nice, sharp manchego dipped in honey? Or sliced pears with brie? It would take me a LONG time to get tired of that.
