TDOS Draft to End All Drafts - Round 20

With the Rock Band II Draft officially over, I believe it’s time to get this one started. Rather than asking one of the mods to reshuffle my posts and move the draft board up, I decided to just start a fresh new thread without all of the sign-up discussion.

Rules (updated):
As previously mentioned, the one big rule/limitation is that all picks must be site appropriate. In order to allow as much freedom as possible, large groups/concepts are available to be drafted, as well as individual items within those groups. Person A can draft a band and have their entire catalog, and Person B would still be able to draft an individual album or song by that band; Person A can draft a video game console and have all of its games, and Person B would still be able to draft a specific game or franchise; Person A can draft a restaurant, and Person B can still draft a specific menu item... In order to discourage picks that are either too repetitive or which directly infringe on a previous selection, we are including a challenge system in this draft. If Person A feels that Person B's selection specifically/intentionally steals their thunder, they can challenge the pick within the draft thread. If the challenge is seconded, an impartial arbiter (thanks, VF21) will have final say on whether or not the pick stays.

Structure:
20 rounds, serpentine draft, 18-hour clock, playoff style, you know the rest. And, as pdx mentioned in the sign-up thread, voting will be public when we get to it.

Additionally, I do want to specify that even though this is a free for all draft, let’s limit our picks to individual items/people/characters/etc. – drafting the entire cast of a specific film or all PS3 games in one shot would obviously be a bit of a cheat.
Sacre Bleu! I thought I could trust you. No rules!!!

Larry you probably aren't the only one to have that idea, I know I actually did when I conceived this but moved on. Still you may want to delete that post if you actually want it for yourself before the damage has been done :)

I like the new rules. Play on :)
Yes its really simple, just don't try to be a weasel and think that you can pick "movie on blu-ray" if movie has been picked or "red car" if car has been picked, etc. There is some gray area that the arbiter will have to rule on, but hopefully those don't even come up because there are just way too many different things to choose from!

G3 is apparently nicer than I am too because I didn't see a mention of my final suggestion that if the arbiter rules against you your entire pick is forfeited. :)

Again, don't be a cheeseball and everyone have fun and super thanks to G3 (and whoever we get to be arbiter) for handling this because I think my workload is about to really pick up next week when summer term starts.

Yeah, I'm a softie. Especially since the challenge system doesn't make it impossible for someone's pick to be thrown out even if there was no specific intention to step on another drafter's toes.

Clock doesn't get restarted, though. Unless it gets too frenzied or confusing (really don't see that being the case), I would assume that the draft process goes on as normal even during arbitration. There shouldn't be a need to put everything/everyone else on hold if there's a challenge.

With the first pick of the draft I pick

THE INTERNET

Serious it is something I can not live without. I am on it almost everyday and with out it I would not get to know any of you. Of which I am eternally grateful.(shamefull plea to get votes ;))

While the internet would have been nice, it too has a flaw -- it is not the greatest thing of all time. It was on my list, to be sure, but I'm quite happy to announce that my first selection in the draft to end all drafts is...Sliced Bread.

The epitome. The gold standard of great. No matter what the latest and greatest things are, sliced bread always retains its crown as the best thing ever -- all else (including the internet) can only aspire to be the best thing since sliced bread.

That is ok I do not plan to make sandwhiches anyways. I like my bread whole.

Well, I'm going to make my list very personal. Some of my choices will relate to you, others simply will not. However, every single one of mine - IMO, are the best things ever. So, here goes..

I commute ALOT. I drive ALL the time. I spend majority of my time in my car, therefore, with my first selection, I pick...

The Green Light

Yes, this always brightens up my day. There is nothing I hate more than sitting at Red light after Red light.

Green Lights = AWESOME. :D

My pick is no surprise...I went general on this pick...I'm sure I'll be more specific with this theme on some later picks.

SCIENCE

Let's face it, people...we owe a lot to science. Cures for diseases, the exploration of space, knowledge of the inner workings of our bodies, etc. It's how we solve problems, even when they aren't obviously scientific in nature. Science rules!

Your students DMass?

If so, 1) the redhead is cute and could give science a good name...or will when she is old enough to vote. And 2) why do people always have people pose pointing at computer screens? I know its supposed to denote action/enthusiasm, but who points at computer screens?
