TDOS Draft to End All Drafts - Round 20

I'm moving this one up due to all of the cuisine picks lately...

VIETNAMESE FOOD

I like Chinese, Thai, etc. as much as the next person, but if I want Asian food, I'm going to a Vietnamese restaurant every time. Not as heavy and saucy as Chinese food, Vietnamese relies on simple flavors and very fresh vegetables and herbs. I love the pho (soup) obviously, but my favorite dish is a simple bed of rice or vermicelli noodles topped with sliced, fried pork...some mint, bean sprouts, etc. on the side. But what makes it a perfect dish is dousing it with a mixture of fish sauce and chili paste. Simple, delicious, and sits well in the stomach.

Kingsnation wanted us to skip him for the time being as he'll be gone until this evening. Also, Geraldwallace#3 is off the clock due to timed out picks. therefore, Captain Factorial is on the clock. PM sent :).

Circadian cycles are so rough. I always want to stay up an hour longer at night, and I always want to sleep an hour longer in the morning. The solution? A 26-hour day! One more productive hour at night, another hour of sleep in the morning...I'm golden!

And to make up for it you lose every other Saturday :p

Next up...

SKETCH COMEDY / IMPROV

Back in the day when I lived in L.A., I was in the sketch comedy troupe "Ten West." It was the most amazing experience I've ever had. There is nothing like performing on stage and making people laugh. While I don't do it at the level I used to, I have recently brought a staff comedy show to my school...it isn't Hollywood, but in many ways it is even more rewarding to make kids and their parents laugh. I also teach an improv elective class and I often take the class clowns that other people don't want in their elective classes. It's great to see kids succeed in an environment that is different from the typical classroom setting.

That's a clever pick. Fantasy though?

VF21 two cents - Kings Faithful picked "ability to fly" so I don't think "26-hour-day" is any less acceptable.

Not any kind of arbiter ruling or anything. Just my input into the discussion as an interested thread observer.

:)

Was able to get on a little sooner than I thought! Great picks all, especially Improv Comedy!!

Well, I need a beverage.. so I select...

Tea

I'm talking all kinds here.. If it's Tea, I'm drafting it..

Iced Tea, Green Tea, Sweet Tea (Yum!), Warm Tea, Bubble Tea...

And my personal favorite Apple Tea!

For my next pick, I select..

Barnes & Noble

One of my absolute favorite places to go just to relax and get away. The crown jewel of book stores, as well as a place to get a bite to eat, maybe a drink.. or some music or movies too.
I'm selecting the chain, and all that comes with the store. :)

My other food item I can't live without: Burritos.

In particular my preference is for overstuffed, big burritos from some hole in the wall. The appropriately named Big Burrito in Boston, now closed, was one of my early favorites. El Sitio in Santa Barbara, where they gently grill the tortilla may be my all time favorite. I don't even know the name of the place my wife found here but when I am very lucky she will bring one home after work. The chains will do in a pinch. The breakfast burrito is another fine invention. I am pretty sure you can make a burrito anything, the more bizarre and less authentic the better. And when all else fails I can get a frozen burrito in under 3 minutes.

I am with you on this pick. Lots of good burritos in SB, too.

Burritos...haven't eaten those much to be honest but they are definitely good.

On to my pick, which I didn't even include on my list because I pegged it as a first or second rounder and there was just no way I thought I'd have room for it. Well, I have some more food items that I hope continue to drop, but I don't think this one will for much longer. I'm very surprised this wasn't picked yet:

Ice Cream

All of it. It's mine, all mine :D. Well, mine and the 300 girls I have on my island

Well there's plenty of Ice Cream in my Malt Shop/Soda Fountain, I just figured it was more bang for the buck to also get some food items to go along with it all.

Olympia National Park

Well, I was going to go for something more general like "rugged northern coastlines" or some such (you guys can keep your wimpy little tropical beaches covered in those little fake wannabe trees with the palm fronds), but I've been trying to avoid the bland catchalls.

As an aside this is also Olympia National Park:

As is this:

And this:

God's country. Which for those of you who know me at all is to say MY country.

Commissioner announcement:

I have been PMed by someone willing to take over for GeraldWallace#3, but wants to replace three of the picks already on his list. I, personally, have no problems with that plan, but since it would mean seven picks all in a row I just thought I'd make sure there were no vehement objections.

Personally I think you should have to work with what you're given. That's the way it's been done up til this point. But it's your draft. I think the picks that are being replaced should still be considered "taken" however

Gadget was nice enough to protect my identity when floating my request, but I'd like to say a few words in my defense.

I did forfeit my spot orginally in favor of another member, so it's not as though I'm a johnny-come-lately here.

Plus, this draft is half over and I've seen a good portion of the things that would have been on my list early (specifically MST3K) get drafted.

I understand and respect the tradition, but I'm not in this for votes. I just want the chance to make a "favorite things" list and it just won't look right with three things I would have never picked ... like, ever.

I think several of the drafts this year are less aimed at votes anyway. I'm finding this one intriguing partially because of the insights into some of our fellow KF members.

Once it's finished, any voting is just going to be anti-climactic IMHO. This is pretty much a trip where the true value is in the journey and not the destination.

Just my two cents, however. At this point, I'd think it's more important to have an active participant than to worry about whether or not he replaces a couple of picks made by the previous drafter.
