what was the last movie you watched?

........

do you read comics?

that said, the movie totally ruined deadpool forever.
nope, not a bit, and that's precisely the problem with these comic-book movies. filmmakers attempt to make them palatable for the non-comic-book-reading every-person, while at the same time watering down the stories from the source material. so, in effect, all you get is a mess that the average movie-goer finds confusing, and the die-hard comic book fan finds offensive...

christopher nolan did the right thing with the batman franchise. he re-envisioned the characters his own way, with mild respect to the source material, rather than the other way around. it didn't matter to him that his joker was going to be very different from the joker of the source material. he found an anarchist obsessed with duality and chaos where there was previously only a psycopathic clown with a fetish for cyanide-filled-pies. many die-hard comic book fans dismiss nolan's batman and his joker because they stray so far from their comic book origins. however, nolan also has made two excellent films that are the absolute benchmarks of superhero movie canon. they surpass all other attempts at recreating comic book lore because they don't attempt to lift comic books directly off the page (a nearly impossible feat). they take familiar characters and recreate them for a different medium and a wider audience...

i don't understand all the wolverine hype...

apart from the cool claws, he's an extremely uninteresting superhero (as are so many of the x-men)...

his lack of depth makes him such a terrible lead. he's altogether blank--and perhaps indifferent to it--from a moral standpoint, and is motivated entirely by anger, which occasionally dissipates to a simmer, and often boils over into rage. but that's the entire range of his character. how boring...

he's a worthwhile addition to a collection of mutant gimmicks that add up to a more interesting whole (especially when coupled with bryan singer's commentary on the portrayal of minorities in x-men/x2), but, as a character, he certainly isn't deserving of his own film...
From a movie standpoint it has alot to do with Hugh Jackman .. He is a great actor and a great Wolverine.

What Padrino described sounded to me like the shallow 1960's comic book heroes that thrived on gimmicks and character with the depth of caricatures. Probably from an older generation than me and Venom_7.

Comics to me have always been too confusing and overly complicated to keep up with, that is why I read the fiction history summaries of characters on Wikipedia instead.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictional_history_of_Wolverine

Also Hugh Jackman has probably jumped the shark in his acting career as Wolverine. He will be forever known as that character no matter how many film awards he wins. I'm still excited to see the movie tonight though.

Saw the Wolverine movie last night, and it was a B-.
It would have been nice if they added 5 more minutes to his childhood scene describing his relationship with Victor + father a bit more. I did like how it explained his memory stuff though:). And I actually liked Deadpool, however, I have never read the comic version (which I'm sure they took several liberties with).

Today I watched 7 pounds, and it was really hard to follow at first, but everything made more sense by the end. There were some really heavy emotions permeating the whole film. I liked it, it kind of makes you think about it for a while afterwards. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson both gave terrific performances.

Exact same way i felt when I wrnt to watch it.

Had to cry when he killed himself to save all those people

Saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine tonight, and loved it. I wish they did what Jespher mentioned too but still I thought it was a great movie, and the best in the series so far, probably my favorite superhero movie actually (Dark Knight was good but I'm not a fan of Batman, liked Iron Man a lot too but not familiar with him.)

Also surprised me that this guy was in it

He was always my favorite growing up for some reason. He didn't have too much screen time, but compared to the way Spiderman 3 handled Venom, I was satisfied.

Even though I saw the "unfinished" version (mentioned previously), we also went and saw Wolverine in the theater as well.

Traitor -- suprisingly sophisticated movie caught between thriller and drama and willing to delve much deeper into the grey than the normal black and white entires in the genre. Think I had more respect for it than love though.

P2 -- thumbs up for one reason -- a little grade B psycho guy after girl movie that nobody ever heard of, and just out of nowhere it turns out to have just about the smartest female heroine I have ever seen in one of these things. She makes a couple of mistakes, but you know all of those things you are always screaming at people to do in one of these? She does them, and more. Its still just a low budget standard genre story, and the bad guy is completely unintimidating, but that heroine rocked, and the girl who played her is a good actress too. Should note too, the first 10 minutes starts off with a very realistic portrayal of a young associate's life in a New York firm -- somebody who has been there had to be involved in this one. The whole thing was just surprisingly smart.

Star Trek

great movie does the orginal cast justice.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really liked it.

It isn't a "typical" Trek movie, more an action flick set in the Trek world, and darn it if it doesn't work well. Yes, they changed the storyline a bit and did a few other things that aren't in total accordance with established "Trek" history, but they made a very fun movie and kept the vast majority of what made Trek "Trek."

It is a bit predictable in places, but they have a young cast that I think can grow into the roles for future films. I liked it very much and am excited to see where they take it next.

Taken Im kind of a sucker for action movies but this one wasnt all that great. It had some cool scenes ( basically what the commercials showed yah ) but it was a little to0 rediculous for me .. also had a TON of wholes in the plot.

The Wrestler - The members of the Academy got it right this year. Mickey Rourke definitely deserved the Oscar for his portrayal. It was a little disconcerting, however, to realize it was Mickey Rourke up there as he bears a striking resemblance to Dog the Bounty Hunter... That was not the Mickey Rourke I remembered. The years have not been kind.

Definitely an intense movie and not for the kids. I am truly a fan of oscar-worthy performances, however, so this one actually exceeded my expectations in that regard.

Terminator Salvation. Wow.

I like the movies and I watched every episode of the soon to be canceled show. Short of a fanatic but I don't collect the merchandise or read the comics.

Great action movie, it was the war that you waited 3 movies to see. Also Moon Bloodgood is a great name and was a reserve in that draft we had a year back.

Saw this today - good action flick. More gritty than the previous movies in the series. Like most of these movies, there are a few holes, but I really enjoyed it.

Valkyrie - I wanted to like this movie. I really did. But I simply could not buy into the Tom Cruise with an eyepatch as a Nazi officer plotting to kill Hitler for the good of the German people...

Tom Cruise in Risky Business? Great. Tom Cruise in Top Gun? One of my all-time favorite flicks. Tom Cruise in the MI series? Okay, although by the third one it had gotten a bit redundant.

Tom Cruise as a real character out of history? Not this one...

Up. It was a pretty good movie (had some sad parts in it as well, FYI) - I have been impressed with the recent round of animated movies (Up, Bolt, Monsters vs. Aliens, etc.), as they have all been really enjoyable for adults as well as the 6-year old crowd as well......

A bit off topic, but I know something I will be watching eventually:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/14279/tony-scott-confirms-alien-prequel/

The frightening rumor that emerged last week of an "Alien" reboot has been confirmed, somewhat, by director Tony Scott.
Talking with Collider at the "The Taking of Pelham 123" junket, Scott confirmed that he and his brother Ridley's production company Scott-Free Productions is indeed producing a remake with director Carl Rinsch directing.
However the good news is that the film isn't a reboot but rather a prequel to Ridley Scott's original 1979 horror classic. Thus the Ripley character or any of the crew of the Nostromo are very unlikely to be involved. The film could also answer key questions such as the origins of the race, what caused the alien transport ship to crash on LV-426 and so forth.
Scott finally adds that they hope to be shooting by the end of the year.
Hope it isn't a reboot, but just a prequel, as stated. Woot!

When I saw that "reboot" rumor I was beyond annoyed -- what a bunch of complete asses. In its genre you no more reshoot an Alien than you do a Casablanca.

A prequel could work though, maybe only if Ridley Scott is deeply deeply involved. The AvP stuff has been crap. So was Alien Resurrection. Not sure how a prequel could actually involve any human characters, but I guess the company was supposed to somehow know about the aliens in when they sent the ship out to investigate in the first film, so...maybe. Even if it sucks though, its just infinitely better than having them trash the original with a CGI junk remake.

Agreed. I actually enjoyed the first AVP even though it wasn't a good "movie", but the second one sucked. I personally like Aliens the best, but I can see how some might like the first one more. And I agree about your take on the prequel - hopefully they delve into the origins and not screw with the existing movies (timeline, story changes) at all. With Ridley involved I think it will turn out OK.
