Supervillain Draft Thread - Team write-ups and post draft rankings

So I have Mephisto, my evil mastermind, now I need to sow some despair. My next choice is a plague to the land, and a blight to the consciousness of those who dare look upon it. It brings with it storms, disease, rage, pain, and consumes all that stand it its way, leaving void all in its path. To gaze into it is to feel as if you were blind. It feeds on despair, fear, lies, deceit, and evil/ill feelings in both the real world and fantasia. Sounds right up Mephisto's ally:). Muha ha ha ha ha! With my 6th selection, I choose:

The Nothing - The Neverending Story

[yt=The Nothing]iJOLGJoX7KM&feature=related[/yt]
The nothing is essentially an animated, self replicating black hole that is fueled by hate and evil intentions. It has it's own will, always seeking to consume the world around it. If any matter touches it, that matter ceases to be, and is forever replaced by a patch of expanding "Nothing". Creatures consumed by the "Nothing" are converted to lies and hate and are dissolved into the void. These effects are permanent, and cannot be healed from or victims resurrected, as no matter remains to bring back to life.

Furthermore, the nothing has it's own twisted minions trying to help it consume the world. Like Gmork...
[yt=Gmork]bjW30BiJ5gw&feature=related[/yt]
P.S. Good luck trying to manifest the nothing away, as Mephisto would have total domination over it's use due to his own reality manifestation powers...

It is funny that deadpool, the marvel knock-off of Deathstroke goes #2 overall in the hero draft and the real deal, Deathstroke goes in the last round...(deadpool really is a knock off, look it up) He was my other choice, but I felt the Rabbit got the same results but was a lot more fun and interesting. Plus, I already got Boba Fett to fill this terminator/killer role. Great, great late pickup.

I thought Deadpool has supernatural abilites akin to the other XMen... Deathstroke has machine guns and machetes. Granted, great he can use 90% of his brain but I fail to see how that would help him be imploded or exploded or thrown into another dimension or such... unless his great brainpower would allow him to realize quickly "**** me, I'm screwed"

As a side note, I'm quite surprised that *Puzzle* has not been picked up yet... or maybe I missed it in the earlier pages as I caught on about halfway through.

sorry about the delay. i was busy for most of the day.

My Pick:
Black Queen - Marvel

If Dark Phoenix was heroin to Jean Grey, then I like to think of the Black Queen as the gateway drug.

To clarify, this Black Queen is Selene Gallio, not the Jean Grey version. Selene was the Black Queen of the Hellfire club. Wow the Hellfire Club used to be legit, as Emma Frost and Selene were both part of the inner circle there at one point.
Anyway, Selene is a psychic vampire, which means she needs to drain the life force of other beings in order to survive.

Selene is a "psychic vampire" with the ability to sustain herself by psionically draining the life force of other human beings into herself. If she drains a person's entire life force, the victim dies and crumbles to dust in seconds. If Selene only drains the victim's life force partially, she achieves a measure of psychic control over her victim's mind, thereby subverting them to her will. Through unknown means Selene can also cause a human being to become a psychic vampire like herself, but be subordinate to Selene's own will. Selene's youthful appearance and vitality depends upon her absorbing the life forces of one or more people on a regular basis. This restores Selene to a youthful and healthy appearance when she has been injured, or when she over-exerts her other powers, and sustain her centuries-long life. A side-effect of this process is that Selene remembers the life of anyone she absorbs.

By using the absorbed life energies that sustain her, Selene can enhance her physical strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and durability to superhuman levels. The amount of energy she has retained from her victims does seem to correlate somewhat with her physical strength and resistance to injury. Selene can momentarily move at superhuman speeds, though this requires a heavy expenditure of energy and can cause her to age rapidly and require more life energy immediately. It is not known how often Selene must drain a human's life force in order to survive. Great expenditure of power causes Selene to age rapidly, but she can rejuvenate herself by absorbing more life force.

She appears to be immune to most forms of conventional injury; she has survived both a knife wound and a crossbow bolt to her heart with no apparent pain or lasting effect. While not indestructible, She once survived and recovered completely from molecular discorporation, though it took considerable time to reconstitute herself.

Selene's most direct weapon is the telekinetic power to animate and/or levitate inorganic matter on a molecular level, by projecting part of her absorbed life force into it. She can affect nearly anything within her line of sight, and can warp and alter the molecules of inanimate matter to her whim, causing objects to wrap around and constrict others, creating lifelike humanoid structures to combat her opponents, or simply reducing objects to dust
and she is good looking.

checkmate.

Ok with my pick

Khan

]

[yt=Khan...]wRnSnfiUI54[/yt][/quote]

Superficially, Khan has similarities with Friedrich Nietzsche's concept of the "Übermensch" (superman or overman).[13] Khan is mentally and physically superior to any normal human, and displays similar amoral reasoning. Professor William J. Devlin and coauthor Shai Biderman examined Khan's character compared to the Übermensch and found that Khan's blind pursuit of revenge is in fact against Nietzsche's ideals of transcendence and self-creation of a meaningful life. Instead, the authors offer Spock's self-sacrifice in The Wrath of Khan as a better example of the Übermensch

My pick will freak you out. You think clowns are scary? They don't even compare to what/who I am about to draft. Someone else drafted mini me and my pick is like mini me if he was 100 times as evil and intelligent. With the final pick of the villain draft, I choose...

Chucky

Chucky feels no pain. He will not feel sympathy while he is murdering your heroes and killing your family on the island. Chucky will not be subdued and will keep going with limbs or even his head gone or even more damage. He has been burnt to a cinder and kept on killing. He has even been known to rip off his own hand to escape. He will kill at all costs and all heroes will be fearful of Chucky.

You guys were all about the hotness but nobody picked Poison Ivy?? Damn, she woulda been one of my picks for sure...

Also, Jigsaw from the Saw movies, Omega Weapon from Final Fantasy. Never actually made a list but I know I had several more that weren't picked. I'll post them if i think of them.

Awesome draft everyone. Really, those goodie two-shoes in the other draft won't know what hit 'em (even if most of us are also in that draft as well)

OK, so we're in the limbo/cool down phase now until the playoffs start. I already have one ranking in not including my own. So get those in at your earliest convienance, please. I'll work out a tentative deadline with Jespher.

In the meantime, feel free to add write-ups (those tended to be the best part of the band draft last year) and alternates who just missed getting picked.

My team was pretty much hashed out as it is from the beginning, (Once I lost The Joker and Vader) but here are some I thought might get a nod:

Krang and Shredder

Skeletor

Jason Voorhees

The Balrog

In the interest of disclosure:

Now that we have seen how the draft played out, I am retroactively changing the source of Jespher's pick "Death/Grim Reaper" from "Marvel Comics" to "Various Mythologies" and allowing him to repost his primary picture in place of the marvel version as that was his original intent.

I reason choosing the Grim Reaper as the personification of Death is the same as Mad D and myself choosing Ares and Eris to personify War and Chaos respectively and doesn't need a comic book source material to justify it.

There were two worthy protests made to this:

a) Death is a broad and vague concept to "draft". However, Jespher picked specifically the Grim Reaper who is a recognizable and specific entity in his/her own right.

b) Who's to say Death, War and Chaos are "evil" rather than opposite and necessary sides of Life, Peace and Order? While there's no need to engage in a philosophical debate over that for this exercise, I'm sure we can mostly agree that the Grim Reaper, Ares and Eris have often been protrayed in literature and art as agents of antagonism and met with fear, loathing or a desire to be overcome by the heroes of the story.

Here's a tidbit on the Grim Reaper's origins to further explain the above reasoning:

"The Grim Reaper wielding a sickle and, at times, an hourglass is directly derived from Kronos. One must understand how important grain was to these ancient civilizations. How horrible the thought of some mystic creature with the power to swipe away their whole harvest with a single swing of the mighty sickle. Not to mention the flock of famished crows, which would accompany such a terrible figure. It undoubtedly symbolized death in an extremely effective way. Though the Grim Reaper poses no real threat to our life, his legacy, which has been handed down from generation to generation, has instilled in us all the fear we need to ensure the desired effect." </SPAN>

I apologize for having delayed this decision. My hesitency actually stemmed from my fear people would argue that Death/Grim Reaper is an element of current religious beliefs considering the "Angel of Death's" association with Satan and its position as the fourth rider of the Apocalypse. Cowardly, I felt Jespher being forced to pick the Marvel version was a convenient out.

However, when I vetoed AleksandarN's pick of the Bedazzeled version of Satan, I realized hiding behind the Marvel version of the Grim Reaper wouldn't be fair to AleksandarN. So, while Satan is a central figure of current practices of Christianity and therefore ineligible in any form, I am taking the position that The Grim Reaper has evolved from an ancient mythological figure into a generalized cultural icon and that the black hooded, sickle carrying Grim Reaper is different than the Christian Angel of Death.

Let's not forget Galactus and other "evil" superpowers that are not, in fact, evil. They are just threats... Galactus is just hungry; but has not particular evil feelings towards anyone except those who try to stop him from eating (as we all would).

The same can be said about Hannibal ;)

What I find problematic concerning the grim reaper is that there is at least one incarnation of him out there that quite clearly defines him as a hero. I'm talking about Death from Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series, who has quite often been engaged in protecting humanity from the Editors. I'd have taken him in the superhero draft, had I been participating that's the only reason why I've been thinking about this. So if there were a version of Death who definitely is a malicious character out there, I'd suggest taking to this one, rather than sticking to one that's so open to interpretation.

Same can be said of Godzilla... but we can pick the version we want....

That arguement has been rattling around my head as well. Even if that specific entity you mentioned is cast aside, death is seen by some as the Angel of Mercy providing an escape and lasting comfort to those in misery.

But in the same token, more than half the villains drafted in the first round could carry the "heroes" mantle. Venom is a part-time vigilante. Vader redemed himself. Dr. Lecter spends the majority of the Silence of the Lambs helping Agent Starling catch the real villain of the movie. Dr Doom and Galactus have each battled greater enemies along with the Marvel superheroes. Even Lex Luthor and the freaking Joker fight along side Superman and Batman for "the greater good" in MK vs DC.

We didn't make people pick specifically "Godzilla from his first five movies only" or "Hannibal Lector from the five minutes of the movie he's either eating people/talking about eating people" or "Darth Vader from Star Wars a New Hope until 20 minutes before the end of The Return of the Jedi" so I think it's ok to be general in the Grim Reaper, mainly to avoid the tediousness of searching through the annals of myths to find just the specific Reaper we want.

I don't know that a change needs to occur, but we can all certainly take the "non-evil villains" factor into account... I did.

The only reason the change is occuring is because it more closely represents Jespher's intent in the pick much as I changed Mad D's pick description from "Super Zombie - Marvel Comics" to "Zombie - Dawn of the Dead" because that is how he had intended it to be when he made the selection.

If Jespher had truly wanted the obscure Marvel version I'd be down for that too.

there were plenty of interesting and creative picks in this draft. kind of dissapointed noone found a way to use bill the butcher as part of their crew.

Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values: Part 1

A Message from the Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values

[yt=The Old Science]oJAbATJCugs[/yt]

Unfortunately, these video about Global Warming is far too understated. The truth is, the constant use of nuclear weapons and the existence of super-humans battling with super-human powers across Gaia, our Mother Earth have caused the Earth to spin off of it's axis and it is now moving more rapidly towards the sun. Within twenty years, the Earth will be a barren wasteland and all of it's inhabitabtants will be dead. Our only choice is to act now! Senator Palpatine and his top scientist, Norman Osbourn (see picture below) have devised a plan to save the Earth, but they are going to need your help.

The plan is to create a new "ozone layer" in layman's terms capable of correcting the Earth's rotational problems permenantly and preventing further global warming and radiation from the sun. This long term solution will preserve the pristine Earth for eternity. Here is an artist's depiction of the construction phase.

We ask that we first start the peace process by ending all violent conflict and asking all of those with superpowers to leave the Earth immediately. They are beloved and we will always treasure their contributions, but their existence on the Earth must end for the Earth to heal. If you see them, thank them and ask them to leave the Earth immediately.

I would just like to say thank you to the former heroes of Earth and good luck in the future. Together, the people of Earth can save our fate and the fate of our planet.

Sincerely,

Senator Palpatine

The Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values:part2

UPDATE from the Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values!

First, thank you for electing me President of the World. Our work on the Dstar ozone replacement program is going well. We have, however, run into a few issues with certain parties. First, certain superheroes and supervillains have refused to leave. In turn, we have had to call upon two super beings to help; they are now a married couple and promised to use force only when required to remove these threats to the Earth's future.

Their names are Gozer and Apocalyspe (pictured below, in order)

Here is actual video footage of this team transferring reluctant heros off of the Earth and to their new settlement without using violence.

[yt=Apocalypse saves the Earth]nm8t5PPJpqA[/yt]

We have also enlisted a new commando unit to disarm and destroy human military operations and squelch terrorist activities. His name is Boba Fett. (see picture below) He will be leading the world's armies and police forces during the construction.

Thank you again for your support as we complete this project, to save the world, the most important of all time.

World President Palpatine

Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values: Part 3

The World President and the Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values Update!

We are nearing successful completion of the Dstar ozone shield. I realize many of you have made the ultimate sacrifice to rid the world of the super-threats, especially those of you who love rabbit. Dr. Osbourn did not mean to set out a virus that would kill all rabbits... for this we are deeply sorry, but hopeful. Luckily, my own personal rabbit, the Rabbit of Caerbannog was spared from the virus and we have cloned my beloved pet a million times over. We realize that this leaves no females of this species and that the rabbit population will be completely conisistent of clones, but we want to do the best we can to bring back our natural pristine wilderness. Here is a picture of my beloved friend who will be sent out into the Earth by the millions (nevermind the halloween props in the picture)

Secondly, the complete outer shell of the Dstar Ozone Shield is complete. Here is a photo from my Blog and Twitter page!

Keep up the good work, the world's salvation is at hand!

With Love,

Democratically Elected World President Palpatine,

Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values: Part 4

BREAKING NEWS!From the Democratic Commission on Global Protection and Social Values.

This video has just come in of the Earth with the new Dstar Ozone Shield attacking and destroying the planet on which all of the sinister former superheroes and supervillains were exiled!

[yt=Live video of Earth attacking the "super" planet]Ujzuo815Guk[/yt]

Also, we are aware of the rabbit problem on the ground level of earth (see video clip)
[yt=Rabbit Issues]XcxKIJTb3Hg[/yt]

If you would like to avoid this fate, please consider conscribing to the Newly appointed Emperor Palpatine for guaranteed employment, health care, food and protection from the evil Rabbits that now run the surface of the Earth. The Emperor has a number of value priced uniforms for those who sign up now!

Lastly, remember at noon each day we are all going to chant "Long Live Emperor Palpatine" in unison; if you see people not joining the chant, please contact Boba Fett's office for instructions.

Again, thank you for your hard work. Emperor Palpatine...

D-Day - "The Matrix Project"

It all started with an idea…

Mephisto called Death to gloat over the amount of innocent souls he had seduced into his service that day, when Death confided in him that he was very tired and needed a vacation. He hadn’t even had a sick day in several millennia, and he was beginning to despise his job. Frequent trips between earth, heaven, and hell had begun to take their toll, especially with the recent human wars of the past centuries. “If only those humans could go a day or two without killing each other, maybe I could get some rest,” he said. This sparked an interest in Mephisto, and he vowed to find a way to get Death that much needed break.

He decided the best way for humans to stop killing each other is if they were controlled somehow. He knew that fear is a terrific utensil for control, but this problem would need much more than fear. Upon further review, he deduced that the humans would need an alternate reality in which to fight out their destructive wars without actually killing each other. Hence, the “Matrix Project” was born…

[yt=Revelation]UOi6v5DD_1M[/yt]

In order for the Matrix to get off the ground, Mephisto needed to find a location that was secluded from the major superpowers of earth. This would insure that there would be no human interference in his plans, and that construction would go along smoothly. Furthermore, it would help to find a location rich in geothermal energies to power the Matrix before it could harvest enough battery humans for a beta trial. An ideal location was found in the South Pacific on a small, isolated chain of tropical islands, far away from major human borders. The islands were purchased through laundered money and bribes, and the materials were shipped to the islands to begin construction. Everything was going according to plan.

Knowing that it would be very difficult to gather human subjects for the Matrix colonies, Mephisto set to work to find help. He first enlisted the services of an old friend, Akasha, the Queen of the Damned. She held sway in the undead world, and was thirsty for vengeance against all of the men that had wronged her in her life. It didn’t take much convincing to get her to sign on to the project. But she wouldn’t be able to gather all of the humans on her own, let alone fight off the superheroes that would undoubtedly be sent to foil their plan, so Mephisto also enlisted the services of a destructive alien race that would be able to adapt and overcome any obstacle, the Slivers.

The slivers, lead by their queen, were tired of years of experimentation, and magical tampering with their genes, and were thirsty for revenge as well. They had learned to read each other telepathically, and mirror the characteristics of one another perfectly. Mephisto began a breeding program on the island to create an indestructible army of slivers that was immune to spellcraft, elemental attacks, mind control, and physical damage. These slivers also could fly, spit and breathe acid, grow in size and numbers at unfathomable rates, project psychic attack blasts, gain great strength and speed, transform other creatures into slivers, poison their victims, grow talons, blades, spikes, and spiny armor projections, and redirect their enemies energy and physical attacks back on them a hundredfold. They obeyed Mephisto and Akasha’s commands, as well as those of their Queen, in return for food, shelter, and psychic stimuli.

As an additional security precaution, Mephisto enabled an ancient curse. He summoned the Nothing into existence as protection for his islands, and for a weapon against his enemies. The Nothing only responded to his commands, and grew on his hate and evil wishes. If any hero should attempt to tamper with the Matrix Project, or cross Mephisto and his minions, they would be swallowed by the nothing, consumed in a great void, converting them to pure lies, hate, and deceit.

Once the plan was operational, Mephisto called for a seance conference with Death. Death was very excited about the progress that Mephisto was making and vowed that he would help in any way he could to expedite the process. Mephisto confided that it would be easiest if they could do away with those humans that were not cataloged in the Matrix Mainframe, reducing the resistance, and allowing death to get some much needed rest. Death agreed, stating that it was only fitting to have one last hurrah before his vacation.

So with Death’s blessing, Mephisto unleashed his armies upon the planet. For the event, Death cloned himself a million times over, to assist with the passage of so many souls. He would only allow his enemies to die, and would not escort the souls of his fallen armies, letting them rise again once slain. Mephisto’s demon spawn were summoned in horrible numbers, the demonic hordes burned and pillaged their way across the landscape. The slivers were equally efficient killers, ruthlessly infesting every part of the globe. Superheroes that stood in their way were consumed by the Nothing, and Akasha used her pyrokinesis to burn all that challenged her, while her vampiric armies bathed in the blood of the fallen. Mephisto remained in Hell throughout the genocide, commanding his armies through his manifestation abilities, and through his many clones on earth.

[yt=Akasha's Death Dance]Fl_A1wbtuvE[/yt]

When the echoes of the last cry of humanity had ended, Death returned to the island, found a nice chair by a fire, curled up with a book, and fell fast asleep for the first time in a million of years.
