I think Dallas got a little taste of the new Kings last night, when Dirk took down KT, even the announcers knew what was comming next, Dirk being sent into the second row. I think this is a underated new aspect of the new Kings we are still deadly from the perimiter but the paint is NO LONGER A CAKE WALK! Undersized or not KT will bring it!

we still got outscored in the paint and will continue to be regularly. the new guys shore up the defense on the inside, but we still aren't going to dominate anyone in the paint. it is a nice change, though, and may lead to a more balanced and efficient attack that we've been lacking. having brad back will help a whole lot in that dept, too.

we were not outscored in the paint... we were DOMINATED!!!!!!! 40-16 we dont have that slashing player yet.... the player that cuts to the rim and throws it down! we dont have one of those....... most of our players are perimeter shooters.

Mo Evens is that guy, and so is Kenny to an extent but i agree they were not going to the rack last night. Hopefully Bobby Jax can come back and contribute in this area.

wrong. mo evans and kenny thomas are those guys. we just need someone to pass them the freaking ball. having brad miller feeding from the high post is what we need. with brads passing ability we'll definately be able to make more cuts and get throw downs. bibby is also the guy that can create in the paint, he just needs to be a little more aggressive and get to the bucket which will force the double team and which will result in a throw down for whatever kings player is around the goal.

true, Mo Evans is that DUDE! but i wish he could get 20-25 minutes of playing time instead of the 8-14 he gets...........

Part of that problem is KT got a couple of bogus fouls early. KT hat dirk at 3 points in the first quarter! Not to mention Dallas is a tough match up their bigs pull ours out of the paint! I know its weird but against Dallas guard play in the paint is huge!

When Miller comes back that is another difference!

3rd Quarter, KT got an intentional

And barely one at that. Got it mostly for making a little throwing motion with his hands. Hardly the squashage to send a message with, and that and his next play fouled him right onto the bench. Not exactly a Bad Boysesque moment for us.

In fact the best thing KT did was come back and knock down some jumpers in the 4th. Not the most vicious response of all time, but showed again that he's not a guy who's going to get intimidated. Tenacious if nothing else. But on the other hand I also doubt Dirk lost any sleep over him last night either.

Personally I am all for interior intimidation. My own personal style of play can often channel Oakley/Rodman with an infusion of Ron Artest. Beat the hell out of them and send 'em home to mommy. But I'm not going to stand on top of our particular dungheap and crow about our interior toughness on a night when we got creamed inside again and took a bigger blow than we dished out. Just glad, as I always am, that we did not back down. The Mavs are hardly the sort of squad that intimidates, and we, and KT in particular, came back strong at them in the 4th.

We do have a couple of tough players that will only get better.

Off the topic....

I think we need to develope MO alot better than we did Gerald Wallace. We have very talented players, but MO has the skills, size and atheletic ability to put pressure on the opposing team if he works hard on the off-season and work with a veteran on the off-season. He could come back next with a vegeance. I mean just image that guy with a descent jump shot and post-up skills..

I was hoping Songaila would put an elbow into Dirk's mouth. I knew it wouldn't happen though and I knew we weren't going to give back a real hard foul. It's not a bad thing, most teams don't retaliate on things like that.

I'm proud of the team. When things started to get physical, they didn't back down and you could see the effort was there. They weren’t bad boys but there was enough bumping to put something into Dirk's head. He still got whatever he wanted for the most part. It was during the last few minutes of the fourth where the aggressiveness might have come into play. One drive he had a sure lay-up only to rush it and miss it. You can't deny he probably had thoughts of getting fouled, possibly hard, in the back of his mind.

I've never seen Dirk play like this before. Credit Avery Johnson i guess. I've seen Avery blow up on the Mavericks players, and it was very Poppovich-esque.

edit: One thing I noticed was the Kings don't do their huddle thing anymore.

I give Kenny some props for the foul on Dirk, I did not see a slow motions or close up but from the cheap seats up in ARCO it did look like a good hard foul, a "Im not afraid" kind of move, much harder and would risk being ejected. No the Kings do not ahve some dominating physical presence inside and are currently way undersized. Lets face it when the tallest paly on the court is is you small forward you are playing midget ball. Probably BECEAUSE they are undersized KT and Skinner both play prety physical... I loved the Heat game when Skinner pulled on Shaq letting the fat man's momentum put him in the 4th row. Now getBradback and shift theseguys where they belong abusing guys their own size and we MIGHT have domant force in the paint.

Thats one of the knocks on KT's game. He can slash at will but will continue to throw up 19 footers. Look at the Blazers game and he was driving to the basket and throwing it down all over the place. At least he's a good jump shooter though.
