Yogi vs Mason

It’s a long season.....I think we will see it fluctuate a bit. A few games ago, Mason got the dnpcd. But yeah, I like Yogi more.

It might purely be a match-up issue. Mason is stronger; Yogi is quicker. Just like when Joerger matched up Buddy on Wall for defense, he didn't want a guy like Yogi to be overmatched by Wall in the strength department.

Yeah, maybe, but Yogi is a very good and pesky defender, even against players taller and bigger than him. Size wise, Yogi is taller than Mason, and I'm not sure the Mason is that much stronger. Both players are solidly built. My personal choice would be Yogi, and I hated him at Indiana. But he's really improved his game since then. As for Mason's increased minutes, I think Joerger see's this as an opportunity to get Mason some playing time with Bogdanovic out. The proof in the pudding will be when Bog's returns.

There's a massive dropoff when Fox isn't on the court and the reasons seem to be multiple. I don't think the coach knows how to fix it and I don't have a clue myself.

Issues are:

-Pace drops off
-Defense drops off
-Giles/Bagley rookie duo creates a lot of mistakes
-Halfcourt stalls into postups without movement
-Hero ball quickly emerges

Playing Bellyjelly with the second unit helps a bit since he spaces and makes smart plays. I think there's an issue where they're trying to develop the rookie bigs, but the bench would probably play better if Mason/Yogi took most of the shots.

I haven’t been a Mason fan but he is earning his minutes. Currently he is:
Shooting 50% from 3
Has better than a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio
Shoots 80% from the line

I think the real question is why isn’t he getting more minutes.

He put Buddy on him cause Fox was in foul trouble. Fox switched to Porter.

I like Yogi over Mason as well. Frankly, Joerger shocked the hell out of me when he put Buddy out there as pg against Wall, especially because he'd have to dribble around Wall. But it worked, especially on the defensive end. I could hardly believe my eyes when Buddy actually blocked a shot of Wall's when he drove to the basket, and then nearly lost my mind when Buddy was dribbling around Wall like he was some scrub.

Yogi is the better player, and coming off the bench next to Bogi will only help. He is more of a scorer than a passer.

Frank is the perfect 3rd PG. He can come in at anytime, hit an open shot, and beat a sleeping defense. But he needs the ball a lot, and doesn't have the talent to warrant it. And his defense isn't a plus.

Yogi plays hard all the time. He has tenacity to make up for his size.
Mason has skills but they do not seem to translate to the NBA, as well as some players. He is in love with dribbling the ball and drives into bigger players all the time. He needs to learn the floater.

I've noticed this too, and I'm hoping it will be fixed when Bogdan is back. I think both Yogi and Mason are subpar creators and are better off when they have a playmaker on the court with them (whether it be Bogdan or Nemanja). Once Bogdan is back, the Kings can have a playmaker on the floor at all times.
