Jordi on the other hand has the most challenges called in the league and the most won ofc.
Earlier today he took a timeout when Nets down by 12 early in 3rd quarter... Warriors did a 6-0 run straight after the timeout, he took one more, and Nets without 6-7 players (also lost Cam Johnson with injury in 1st half) won at Warriors.
Also Kings are the 2nd team in the league allowing the most wide open threes. This somehow tends not to change despite having been a huge issue.

It also seems like we have become to cool to run people out the gym. Everyone calls us the team who like to get out and run, but I think we have slowed down dramatically.

I meant I didn’t see this coming at the start of the season. Was hoping this poor play was just a fluke and that we would improve but I’m not seeing that. I didn’t see us playing this poorly this far into the season.

it’s not like multiple commentators didn’t say it’s not going to work. Too small and too dependent on the 2 ball. Keon Ellis and Sabonis have shot okay and that’s about it.

The Kings ran out of steam midway through the third quarter on the second night of a back-to-back. Hardly unexpected against a fine Oklahoma basketball team. Up to that point, they were toe-to-toe with the Thunder.
The problem I see is not with DeRozan per se, it is that his deliberate style and the freewheeling, run-and-gun style of Fox, Sabonis, and Monk have not yet meshed. Thankfully, DeRozan, Sabonis, and Monk are all back from the injury list. We are barely a fifth of the way through the season. There is still time for the team to gell and get a winning streak or two going. Starting Ellis tonight was a good first step.

I've come to the conclusion that Kings are just too small not unlike our 5'5" owner. They don't close out at the 3 pt line because would open up the paint for penetration where we are undersized and with inadequate rim protection. And tonight OKC without Chet Holmgren. Kings have a problem that may not be head coaches fault but FO bad miscalculation. DeRozen very good edition but Fox needs to play at superstar level every night, back-to-back or not for Kings to go anywhere this season. I predicted at the beginning 45-37 but that might a stretch - hope not.
I said before the thread I think Brown and Monte likely survive the year. But that was the assumption we're at least competitive for a playoff spot. This sort of has all the makings of just totally falling off the rails into becoming a full-on disaster. We're pretty quickly heading for that Philly Sixers territory of just a totally lost season.
Those missed games from Monk/DDR/Domas broke this team. We haven't found a groove since, after starting out the first 8 or so games extremely well, on both ends. Looked like we had turned a corner. And unfortunately, the West is the conference that just never lets up any night; a bad 2-3 week stretch just ruins your season.

The tough part to swallow again, is that 2 of those losses were at home against east teams with below .500 records and not projected to be playoff teams

Not much you can do with 3 of your 5 best players are out. Those games are what they are.
Been getting those guys reintegrated has been just so so poor and out of sync. All that early season goodness is gone. We saw it for the 1H tonight, then just sucked out of energy (mostly from the refs, but hey).
They had a whole challenge team and some of those guys followed Jordi. To me that is proof the league just has it in for us.

The roster doesn't fit well together and doesn't make sense. News flash: 2<3. The star scorers are 2 point scorers. You can get away with having one "star" scorer. Not two. Proof is what we've seen over nearly 20 games. Monte: Please take notes.
DDR being a fine player doesn't make him good for this roster. What we needed was a lengthy athletic forward who could hit a 3. What we got is an excellent two point scorer who likes to dribble and post to get his shot, and who when open will actually dribble from the 3 point line into the the two point area to get his shot. He's a mediocre defender and doesn't make anybody better around him. He'd be great in the 1980s with any team, but last time I checked it's the 21st century and another smallish fine 2-point scorer is a very low priority for this team. I thought it was fairly likely that he would be a short term rental for this team when they acquired him and now I think it's more likely he'll be a very short term rental.
Sabonis needs a lengthy athletic helper on defense.
Murray can't dribble well enough to get around a lot of people and at this point in his career needs to be set up by penetrating guards most of the time; the "training" he got in the last two off-seasons continues to confound me. What exactly is he supposed to have improved in his offensive game over many, many months? Sure, if I squint I can see some improvement, but most of the time my eyes ending up hurting badly. The potential that I think he might have is frustrating me more than any player the Kings' have.
Heurter needs to be surrounded by a bunch of athletic long guys to compensate for his physical inadequacies.
Fox needs more 3 point shooters to help him get space against good teams like OKC and he needs players with speed around him to augment his greatest asset.

Yeah, but if that's the problem, then they are covering up for Domas almost entirely. Which is obviously probably why they are doing it. The question then is how do you fix that? Trade Domas? Put Domas at PF? We saw the Kings defense jump to another level when they pressured the ball. The issue with penetration is every guard outside of Fox when dialed in and Ellis right now are just waiting to be beaten off the dribble. They need to find that balance. Help less. Pressure more.

This might be the most average, middle of the road team we've had yet. Competitive but can't win a close game. Hovering around .500 without looking like a dangerous team.
I don't see this squad making the playoffs, and possibly not even the play-in. Our defence sucks once again, I don't care what the stats say. We can't get stops or defend the basket.

if you can’t space the floor you become even easier to defend. Especially when you are undersized. An undersized team that can’t space the floor is a guaranteed lottery team.

the team has a loosing record playing more games at home and more games against bottom 4 than top 4 teams. We are 2 games from 1/4 through the season and we got swept in the preseason.

I think you nailed it. Our defensive scheme is to protect Sabonis, and even on screens he is killing us by sagging so deep letting the shooter get a wide open look. Happened a lot last night.
I think Sabonis avoids a lot of criticism for our struggles because he puts up numbers in the box score, but his defense has been a liability and his TOs have been brutal.
Not much is going well but I’m encouraged by Ellis starting finally.
However, there seems to be no fix to our bench. Every game we get crushed in bench points and the bench defense is so bad that Mike has to take them out quickly and play our starters ~40 minutes each night.
Fox and Murray played nearly 40 minutes in a game we waived the white flag on 2nd night of a B2B. It isn’t sustainable.
I’m finally concerned, but there is still a lot of season left to turn it around and make a run. Fixing the stupid defensive scheme is step 1. Then I feel it’s a matter of time before our shooters get out of this funk.

Can’t wait to hear about how our shooters will eventually find their shot.
Also waiting to hear about how teams are just getting lucky every night by getting hot from 3pt, and how it has nothing to do with the lack of defense we play.
I think the Kings team we see right now is the Kings team we’ll have. There is no 2nd gear
Kings are 27th in 3PA allowed and 29th in 3pt%. We're 24th in 3PA and 26th in 3pt%. So we're essentially one of the lowest volume/worst shooting teams while giving up the highest volume of 3PA and 3pt%. We're -68 in 3PM differential this season.
I do think the shooting turns around though. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't; we're talking historically good-great shooters that are shooting like G-League talents. That shouldn't last.
But the 3pt defense is by design. We're funneling far more shots to 3's this season than we have the past 2 seasons, despite us always allowing a high % against us. That's the sweeping issue that needs to change.
