There are rumors that the Warriors were offering Monta Ellis in an attempt to move up in the draft to get Yi.

So let's say Yi slips to #10. Would you rather draft Yi Jianlian, who has the potential to be the type of big the Kings need, or would you rather have an Ellis/Martin backcourt of the future?

PS: I'm voting Ellis, but that's only because he's a proven commodity. Also he won the coin flip because I couldn't decide.

They were supposedly offering Ellis/#18 for a shot at Yi...I would do that in a heartbeat(you know how I feel about Yi - not worth a LOTTO pick).

I'd take Yi over Ellis. I very possibly might take Yi over Ellis and the #18. I would probably trade the 10th pick for Ellis and #18, because I doubt that Yi will be available at #10.

I'd take Yi easily. Sure he very well could be a bust, but I don't think Monta Ellis is anything special. This team would go absolutely nowhere with Ellis. He is not the type of player you can build around.

Ellis + the #18 do not sound like fair value for Yi Jianlian. Remember, he could have been the #1 pick last year and surely a top 5 pick in a "normal" year draft. And he would have been a lock to go top 6 this year if not for his agent dissing certain small cities in the midwest/mideast.

I'd ask the Warriors to phony up much more for Yi than a mid pick and an undersized combo guard. I like Ellis, but I'm not even sure he'll be better than Douby in the long run.

THE QUESTION IS....

Would you take Yi over Ellis, and Jason Smith (assuming GS drafts Jason Smith)

I would take Ellis, and Smith over Yi in a heart beat.

I messed up on poll and picked Yi, but I didn't see the 18th pick in there as well.

I don't see Ellis as a pg, turns the ball over way too much. More like a tweener guard. Already have Douby for that.

Yah... You all notice that every team now has a combo guard? Did Sacramento create this fad with Bobby Jackson? :D

He's shown ok PG skills, but he's a scorer first and foremost. I don't think he's a good enough distributor.

Living in the bay area, I've seen a lot of Ellis. I've always thought he has Tony Parker potential, and reminds me a bit of parker in his first couple of years. Right now he's not a great playmaker for others, and can make some serious bonehead plays from time-to-time but the man can seriously fly up and down the court. He doesn't have much of a three point shot, but when he's rolling will bury anything within the arc.

Warriors management has always been super high on Ellis, so they must really love Yi if this is true. Kind of makes sense given Nelsons love of Dirk N., who I've read Yi compared to. May also mean they are ready to give Davis an extension.

Also should point out that Ellis has had a history of knee problems...in fact, I thought I remembered reading that he had some "maintenance" this offseason (could be wrong). That said, he is a dynamic young combo guard who has the potential to develop into an all-star PG down the road. I would probably trade the #10 for him and the #18, but it might be a deal after the draft get's through to #18 to ensure you can get someone you're after with that pick.

I agree, I'd rather gamble on getting a franchise player than go with the known safe commodity.

Do you not hold a guy like Jason Smith in the same light as Yi? I kinda think they are the same type of player w/ Yi being better on the offensive end, and Smith rebounding the ball better. Suposedly both have great potential though. Both are 7' and both are skinny guys. Athletically I would say both are on the same level. I would love to compare the two after a season in the NBA though.

At this point you take Yi because Kings are rebuilding and need a piece with the potential of Yi. Ellis is good, but you take the chance on Yi.

In Bay Area, a lot of people are not high on the kid for his poor playoff showing and I am one of them. He is more like a SG in a PG body. If I am a King I will not trade away my pick unless it involves Andre Beidrins, Ellis and their 18th pick.
This is because none of them are gonna change the game as Jian Lian can, with his popularity, especially in CA or his unique talent, which to be honest I am not sure he can succeed in NBA.

You sure? He didn't play at PG much because of Baron, but I thought he's shown some solid PG skills.

He isnt a point guard. The only reason he gets some time there is because he plays for Golden State who doesn't even need a point guard since their offense is basically organized chaos. I mean almost every guy on that team has some ball handling ability.

For a team who would be looking for a floor general and a guy to initiate the offense, Ellis isn't the guy you want. He doesn't have those types of skills and is definitely more of a scorer.

I'm not sure why everyone is convinced Yi will still be on the board. I'm not 100% sold on the guy but I'd take him at 10 if he's still there unless someone clearly better fell into our lap. But Yi is exactly the type of player who gets picked way too early and shakes up the entire draft pecking order. I suspect he goes in the 5-8 area if not to one of the teams currently holding the pick then via a draft day trade.

In any event to answer the question at hand I go with Yi or another 4/5 at 10 rather than Ellis and taking a gamble at 18.

NO!

i'm holding a grudge against Monta Ellis for taking Kevin's MIP simply because his team made the playoffs and our's didn't!

besides... we NEED big men! especially someone with Yi's potential. of course its a gamble. he could be a huge bust. that's why its called potential! hell, Greg Oden didnt have a good enough season to justify picking him over Durant, but everyone sees the potential he has. Oden is less of a gamble than Yi, and more of a sure thing, but you still have to go for the young big guy with lots of potential

besides do we really need another guard? we have Bibby, Price, Martin, Garcia, Salmons, Douby. that's 6 out of 12 roster spots for two positions (yeah, i know Garcia and Salmons can play the 3 as well, but they're both guards)

I think I would take Ellis and the #18. Use that #18 to draft a big if available and turn Mike Bibby into some type of large commodity.

I would take Ellis in a second!!!!

but why?! Bibby is not the commodity. the other guards are. i haven't watched him play much, but what does Ellis do that's would be worth trading a potential superstar big man for?

- does he score 20+ points every night? Martin does that!
- does he have a ton of hustle and energy, plus play pretty good defense? we have Garcia and Salmons
- is it possible that with the right training he'll be a deadly shooter? Martin's already past that point, and Douby might be good for it too

so why would you trade for Ellis, who does nothing our guys can't? its not like he really does any of those things better either. the only thing i can think of is that he scores the ball really well and plays some really good D; like a mix of all of our guards. but that's not a major improvement. so why trade the big guy we need for something we already have and a lesser big guy?

Drafting Yi is the equivalent of feeding all the starving children in Ethiopia
Trading for Ellis is like wiping your *** with $100 bills

We're not, it's purely a hypothetical question.
