Former NBA star Vlade Divac has become an adviser in Serbia's government. The 40-year-old says he will be in charge of humanitarian issues and sports, and will work with Vice Premier Ivica Dacic. The ex-Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings center told reporters Thursday he has taken up the post in order to help promote humanitarian work in Serbia.

I have no idea what the state of Serbia's leadership is right now, but having a human being of Vlade's quality in the government cannot be anything but a positive.

I was always hoping he would come back to the NBA as a coach, but I'm not complaining when I read this.

Vlade seems to bring people together real well which makes him a natural leader. Go Vlade!

You would think a player as good as Vlade in his prime would have their biggest accomplishments on the court. Lol. I have a feeling Kevin Martin is going to take that route also.

Here is my take so take it for what is worth.

Ivica Dacic is a politician by definition - lowest form of being (human can not be applied) that would do ANYTHING to stay in power which gives certain privileges like immunity from prosecution for corruption etc... He has no character, principals and only thing he cares about is to stay where he is. He used to be Milosevic's right hand but then when it got to hot he switched to the other side and he keeps flipping for election to election. We went from a far, far left wing to the far right wing. He is a kind of being (not a person) who would let's say a Kings fan 100% right until it is favorable to be a Lakers fan and then he would talk the worst about Kings. Then he would go back to being Kings fan talking the worst about Lakers and looking You straight in the eyes expecting You to believe him. Always in the mix - never a really big player.

So, yes Vlade is being "used" as PR move because he is a "big" name and well respected. And eventually a falll guy too.

But, Vlade is well aware of that and we know that he wants to help everyone so knowing Vlade - he figures if he can even help one person it is worth a risk. And that is why Vlade is Vlade and Mr. Dacic is well...

Whereas Vlade is the kinda guy that would start out as a Laker ... then join the Kings... and then... :p

I don't know anything about politics over there, just thought your metaphor could use a little tuning.

I hope Vlade is right and he can do more good than harm by being used by this guy.

don't remember Vlade ever saying bad things about either organization to score popularity points for himself

I'd really like to keep this about Vlade and his humanitarian work and not about Serbian politics.

Thanks ...

:)

An excellent choice by his home country as he had 10 years over here showing us how good an Ambassador of Sports and Humanity he was. Next thing you know he could be a real Ambassador!! Congratulations Vlade and thanks for the memories. :)
