Wolves, Sprewell No Longer Talking

All-Star
St. Paul Pioneer Press - According to St Paul Pioneer Press writer Rick Alonzo, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said Monday that team officials have not talked to free agent Latrell Sprewell's representative about a new contract.

Don't expect that to change.

"We made an offer last year, and he said it wasn't enough," Taylor said, referring to a three-year, $21 million proposal that Sprewell turned down. "So we haven't pursued it."

Sprewell said he was insulted by the offer last season and that he had a family to feed.

Taylor wouldn't rule out Sprewell returning. But with no talks taking place between the parties, that prospect remains unlikely.

Hum, don't we need a SG?

Here's to hoping he never shows up in a Kings uni.

Man you gotta love how 21 million over 3 years cant feed your family, That statment still makes me laugh.

I'm very interested to see if ANYBODY signs his old ***. Thinking maybe some old ex coahc of his, who he did not choke, might take a chance. Maybe Van Gundy in Houston or something. But they have alreayd used their MLE, and he's nto worth it anymore anyway. Could be looking at an embarrassing LLE offer or retirement.

Retirement...maybe he can get social security to keep his family from starving. Or turn to food stamps.

Perhaps he could get a starring role in a remake of the classic "Pippi Longstockings."

no wonder that childern from today need therapy by the time they start high school :D

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind seeing Sprewell in the Kings uniform for a year or two. That is about as long as he'll be able to contribute, and short enough so that he's unable to become a cancer... but I think Sprewell would probably want a longer contract.

tell that to the Wolves -- took him all of 1 yr and 1 training camp and then he and Sam tore the team down.

Spree last year:

Age 34, 30.6min 12.8pts (.414 FG% .327 3pt% .830 FT%) 3.2rebs 2.4ast 0.7stl 0.3blk 1.6TO

Its not like he even does anything particularly well anymore. At his peak he was really really good -- kind of a better version of Larry Hughes. But he's one of those guys like Anthony Mason who is destined to have his career end before he's totally worthless as aplayer just because he is such a pain in the ***.

I don't disagree with your point but what goes along with that is he was one of the reasons they reached the peak in the WCFs that they did. I wouldn't want him either, just giving the devil his due.

The devil was due credit as recently as 03-04, although he was clearly slowing down. But age hits hard sometimes. As with Doug, all of a sudden its just gone. I see no point at all in squishing our kids for the likes of old Spree and taking a chance on his cancerous personality too. For a younger version? Absolutely. But not for this guy. I have my doubts whether either kid will ever be a starter for a good team, but Spree barely was last year, and isn't likely to recover as he gets older still.

Yeah, he definately slipped last year, although I have my doubts as to whether he was playing as hard as he could, which makes it even worse.

Crazy. Probably one of the last players in the league i want on my team - not in terms of talent, but the total package - talent, salary, attitude, hideous looks and his tendancy to try hang his coaches from the ring.

We haven't gotten Garnett yet because Minnesota keeps trying to package him with Sprewell, and no one is taking the bait.

While funny, I think more realistically, if that were the case that KG was being shopped, I think most teams would simply take him and Spree, than buy Spree out of his contract. KG is a MVP candidtate, I think he is worth Spree's problems.

Yeah tell me about it. What GM wouldn't jump on a deal that included the Big Ticket?

Since Spree is a free agent I find that unlikely.

Amongst other reasons. ;)

Why? Did I miss something? PJ is probably not a good coach. Spree CHOSE not to accept that GRATIOUS offer by the T-Wolves. These 2 things don't seem like Karma, just ignorance on both parts.

PS, I could be wrong about PJ.

pj was interviewing for the position and spree, whose second chance was very controversial, was telling garnett that carlisimo would screw the t-wolves up because of his... get this... his temper! because of that, i hope spree literally has to go begging for crumbs to feed his family.

some people think pj is not a good coach, but he is the number one assistant coach at the number one team. didn't bill belichick fail pretty miserably in his first head coaching job at cleveland? i'm sure pj learned as much from popovich as bellicic learned from bill parcells. and did you notice that gregg popovich doesn't get condemned for yelling at his players too much?

It's no secret that PJ has a horrible temper although you would never guess by looking at him or hearing him talk.

Yep -- heck I think he may have even deserved that strangling from Spree. ;)

Had a rep as an unmitigated ******* as a coach. Would have been kind of fun to see him coach KG and Spree though -- we could have taken odds on whether Spree re-throttled him first, or KG lost it and knocked him on the *** with a quick pop to the nose. :)

between pj and spree, only one of them was suspended. reading this thread, you'd have a hard time guessing the right one.
